FWC Offers Hunter Safety Classes In Escambia, Santa Rosa

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering free hunter safety courses in Escambia County this month.
Students who have taken the online course and wish to complete the classroom portion must bring the online-completion report with them. Traditional course students must complete the entire course in person.
All firearms, ammunition and materials are provided free of charge. Students should bring a pen or pencil and paper. An adult must accompany children younger than 16 at all times.
Anyone born on or after June 1, 1975, must pass an approved hunter safety course and have a hunting license to hunt alone (unsupervised). The FWC course satisfies hunter-safety training requirements for all other states and Canadian provinces.

Tori Herrington tossed a shutout as the Northview Chiefs beat the Baker Gators 8-0 Tuesday night in Baker.
The Chiefs scored unanswered runs in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings for the district win.
Herrington earned the win, pitching six innings with six hits, no runs, no errors, striking out 11 and allowing just one walk.

The Milton Panthers defeated the Tate Lady Aggies 7-1 Tuesday night.
Hanna Brown took the loss for the Aggies, pitching six innings, allowing seven runs and five hits while striking out four.

Tate Wrestling Takes Third At Regionals, Advances To State Finals

Tate High School placed third at the Region 2A Region 1 wrestling tournament this weekend.
First place went to Lincoln High with 14 wrestlers competing. Second place was Pace High with 12 wrestlers competing. Tate, in third, had just seven wrestlers competing.
FWC Offering Hunter Safety Class In Molino

A hunter safety class will be offered Wednesday, March 1 at the Molino Branch Library at 6 p.m.
All hunters born after 1975 are required to take a hunter safety class to get their hunting license. This class requires completion of the FWC’s free online hunter safety course before attending class. Go to myfwc.com/HunterSafety to register and take the online course.

Northview Chiefs Football Players Clean Up Century Health And Rehab

Members of the Northview High School Chiefs football team volunteered Saturday morning at the Century Health and Rehabilitation Center. The cleaned out both around and in the fishing pond, and cleaned up and cleared out around the center’s courtyard.
“We are now ready for spring and fishing,” Century Health and Rehab Activities Director Mae Hildreth said. “Big thank you to all the guys. They worked hard….They made work fun.”

Tate Tops West Florida (With Photo Gallery)

The Tate Lady Aggies defeated West Florida 9-4 Friday night.
The Lady Aggies jumped out to an early lead when Belle Wolfenden drove in two when she singled in the first inning. The Aggies scored an additional run each of the next four innings and sealed the win with three-run sixth inning.
West Florida scored on a home run by Jeya Prasad, a stolen base by Ealon Pyle, and a single by Jade Halfacre.
Hannah Brown earned the win for Tate. She went seven innings, allowing four runs, five hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Jeya Prasad took the loss for Wet Florida, pitching four innings. She allowed five runs, 10 hits, five strikeouts and walked one.

Baseball: Tate Over WFHS; Escambia Academy Beats Northview

Tate 2, West Florida 1
The strong pitching performance of juniors Ryan Greene and Gabe Castro earned the Tate High School Aggies a 2-1 win over West Florida Friday night.
Ryan Greene earned the win Tate. He tossed four innings, giving up one run, two hits, striking out six, and walking one. Gabe Castro recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Tate. Zabelle took the loss for West Florida. He pitched four innings, giving up two runs, three hits, and recording four strikeouts.
Tate hitters: Mason Land 1-3.. Logan McGuffey 1-2, Hunter NeSmith 1-3, Hunter McLean RBI.
West Florida hitters: Amir McDaniel 1-3 2B, RBI, Nick Zabelle 1-3.
The Tate Aggies will be at Gulf Breeze next Friday, while West Florida will be at Pine Forest on Thursday.
Escambia Academy 2, Northview 1
Escambia Academy defeated the Northview Chiefs Friday evening 2-1 in Canoe, AL, just outside Atmore.
The Northview Chiefs scored their solo run in the first inning when John Chivington grounded out to send Quinton Sampson across the plate. Escambia Academy evened it up with a run in the bottom of the first and scored the go ahead run in the third on a Chiefs error.
Seth Killam lead Northview at the plate, going 2-3. Chandler Lowery went 1-1 for the Chiefs.
John Neese took the loss for the Chiefs. In six innings, he allowed five hits and two runs while striking out nine.
Northview Wins Home Opener Over Central (With Gallery)

The Northview Chiefs beat Central 5-1 Thursday night in the Chief’s home opener in Bratt.
The Chiefs took an early 1-0 lead in the second, and were up 2-0 in the fourth. Both teams scored on in the fifth, and the Chiefs sealed the win with a two-run sixth inning.
Zach Payne went 1-1 for the Northview Chiefs with three RBI’s. Bailey Wilson 1-2, Jared Alif 1-3, Josh Neese 1-1, RBI.
WP: Josh Smith 4.2 IP, threee hits, one run, one error, two strikeouts, three walks.
The Chiefs will head a few miles north into Alabama Friday to face Escambia Academy. The JV plays at 4:00, followed by the varsity at 6:00.

Softball: Tate Tops Escambia; Chipley Over Northview

The Northview Lady Chiefs fell 4-1 on the road to the Chipley Tigers.
Tori Herrington took the loss against the Tigers allowing four runs on four hits, a walk and a hit by pitch while recording eight strikeouts.
Chipley scored first in the bottom of the second on a fielders choice bunt, in the third on a two out single and two more in the fifth on a passed ball and a single. Jamia Newton scored the lone run for Northview in the top of the fourth on a fielders choice hit by Herrington followed by an errant throw.

The Tate Lady Aggies beat Escambia 7-4 Thursday at Tate.
Hanna Brown pitched a complete game allowing just four hits with eight strikeouts and four walks. At the plate, Brown went 2-3 with a double. Belle Wolfenden was 2-3 with a triple. Hayden Lindsay 1-4; Ashley Lunquist 1-2; Syndni Solliday 1-2, RBI; Deazia Nickerson 2-3.
Tate will be at West Florida at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Softball: Northview Chiefs Shut Out Catholic’s Crusaders

The Northview Lady Chiefs shut out Catholic Wednesday night 9-0 in Bratt.
Tori Herrington took the win against the Crusaders allowing just three base runners on one hit, a walk and one error while recording 11 strikeouts.
