Tate Wrestler Porter Places Fifth At State

Tate High School wrestler  Alex Porter placed fifth in the state in Kissimmee.

The Aggies sent five wrestlers to the state tournament, the most of any team from Pensacola to Tallahassee, with Porter the only one to place. Porter, a senior, placed sixth last year at state. With this year’s medal, Porter became one of only two Tate High wrestlers in school history to medal twice during his high school career.

Blackmon’s Grand Slam Leads Tate Over West Florida; Miller Topples Northview

Tate Aggies first baseman Logan Blackmon knocked one out of centerfield for a grand slam Tuesday night as the Aggies beat West Florida 9-3.

With runs in the first, second and fifth, the Aggies were up 3-1 headed into the top of the sixth when West Florida added two for the tie. Tate powered back with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. West Florida was only able to add one in the seventh as they fell to undefeated Tate.

Blackmon was 2-3 with a run and four RBI’s for the Aggies. Also for Tate: Reid Halfacre 1-3, R, RBI; Mason Land 2-4, 3R, RBI; Logan McGuffey 1-2, R, RBI; Trey LaFleur 2-4, R; Jesse Sherrill 1-1, R.

T.R. Miller 5, Northview 4

T.R. Miller defeated the Northview Chiefs 5-4 Tuesday afternoon in Brewton.

Miller took the lead in the first inning 2-0, but the Chiefs went up 4-2 in the top of the second. Miller slowly eroded Northview’s advantage with runs in the third, fifth and the game winning run n the bottom of the seventh.

Quinton Sampson went 2-4 with a run and and two RBIs, while Devon Stabler had one RBI as he was 1-3 at the plate with one run. Also for Northview: Zach Payne 1-3; Josh Neese R; Blake Reid 1-3, R; Bailey Wilson 1-3.

Next up, Northview begins a road series Friday at Freeport.

Middle School Volleyball Playoffs – Ernest Ward Beats Ransom

The Ernest Ward Middle School volleyball team defeated Ransom Middle two sets to one in playoff action Monday night. The EWMS Eagles won the game on a 15-5 third set. Northview Tops W.S. Neal

The Northview Chiefs beat W.S.Neal 7-6  Monday night in Bratt.

Neal took an early 3-0 lead in the first, but the Chiefs scored unanswered runs in the second, third fourth and sixth before scoring the winning run in the seventh.

John Chivington went 3-3 with a run and RBI. Also for the Chiefs: Quinton Sampson 1-4; Zach Payne 2-4, R, RBI; Josh Neese 1-3, R; Blake Reid 1-4, R, RBI; Bailey Wilson 1-3 R, RBI; Daniel Mascaro  R, RBI.

Alston Wiggins tossed the win for Northview in five innings, giving up two hits, four runs, two errors and striking out four. Josh Neese pitched two with no hits, no error, two hits, one strikeout and a walk.

Northview will travel to T.R. Miller on Tuesday. Game times have been switched…varsity will play at 4:00 and the junior varsity is scheduled for 6:00.

Ernest Ward JV Volleyball Ends Perfect Season; Varsity In Playoffs

The Ernest Ward junior varsity team ended their season undefeated  with a win over Ransom to win their Escambia County School District’s JV Volleyball Championship.

The 2017 JV Lady Eagles finished the season 8-0 defeating every other middle school in Escambia County along the way. Team members are: Anna Adams, Naveah Brown, Kaitlyn Gafford, Caitlyn Gibson, Grayson James,Taylor Levins, Elianna Morales, Taylor McMinn, Kinzy Powell,Mia Starns, Kailyn Watson and Abby Weber.

The varsity Ernest Ward volleyball team (5-4) is ranked fifth in the district and will begin championship tournament play today at 6:30 p.m. against Ransom Middle at Woodham.

Tate Softball Goes Two And Two In Panama City Beach Tourney

The Tate High School Lady Aggies went two and two this weekend in the USA Softball Challenge in Panama City Beach.

Tate 4, Gulliver Prep (Miami) 3

With seventh inning home runs from  Hannah Brown and Hayden Lindsay, the Tate Lady Aggies beat Gulliver Prep of Miami 4-3 Saturday in Panama City Beach.

Belle Wolfenden had an RBI and a double for Tate; Leslee Scruggs had a double; and Hannah Brown, Hayden Lindsay and Sydni Solliday recorded RBIs for the Aggies.

Avery earned the win for the Lady Aggies, pitching three innings with two hits, no runs, no errors, two strikeouts and two walks. Solliday pitched four inning for Tate, allowing give hits, three runs, striking out one and walking three.

Tate 4, Wewa 2

The Tate Lady Aggie defeated Wewa 4-2 on Saturday.

Leslee Scruggs had a double and two RBI’s to lead the Aggies. Belle Wolfenden also recorded a RBI.

Hannah Brown pitched the win in five, allowing three hits, one run, two walks and striking out five.  Deazia Nickerson went two innings on the mound for Tate, allowing two hits, one run, one error, a home run and striking out one.

Chiles (Tallahassee) 11, Tate 9

A two run homer in the top of the seventh propelled Tallahassee Chiles to a 11-9 win over the Tate Lady Aggies Friday.

Hayden Lindsay homered in the first inning, scoring two runs for Tate. The Aggies scored six runs in the second inning, only to see Chiles score six in the fourth. Hannah Brown and  Leslee Scruggs had doubles for Tate. Hannah Brown, Belle Wolfenden, Hayden Lindsay, and Shelby Ullrich  earned two RBIs each.

Avery took the loss for Tate, pitching three innings allowing three hits, six runs, four errors, two walks and striking out four. Sydni Solliday started the game for the Tate Aggies. She pitched three innings, allowing five runs, five hits, and striking out one.

Wakulla 10, Tate 0

The Tate Lady Aggies fell to Wakulla 10-0 on Friday.

Wakulla took and early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, added three runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and an additional run in the sixth.

Hannah Brown took the loss for Tate. She pitched six innings, allowing ten runs, nine hits, striking out four, and walking one.

Chipley Slips Past Northview

The Chipley Tigers slipped past the Northview Chiefs 6-5 Friday night Bratt with late run in the top of the seventh.

The Chiefs took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added additional scores in the fourth and fifth. Chipley tied the game with three runs in the fifth before their go-ahead run on an error in the seventh.

The Northview Chiefs beat Jay 12-3 Thursday night in Bratt.

The Lady Chiefs struck first in the second inning with Aubree Love scoring on an error by the left fielder following a single by Peighton Dortch. Northview scored eight more in the 4th, one in the 5th and two in the 6th. The Lady Royals managed just three runs with two coming in the 5th and one in the 6th.

The Northview Boys Weightlifting team competed in the Gator Invitational Meet at Baker High School on Tuesday.

Northview Chiefs Run-Rule Escambia Academy In Explosive 6th Inning

The Northview Chiefs defeated Escambia Academy 11-1 Tuesday night in wild sixth inning that ended on the 1o-run rule.

The Chiefs and the visiting Cougars were scoreless at the end of the fifth, with EA taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth.

Northview caught fire in the bottom of the sixth, racking up a string of 11 runs beginning with a single from Zach Payne. John Chivington had a double, Payne score on a stolen base, Bailey Wilson walked. Seth Killam, Quinton Sampson and Payne scored on stolen bases and Josh Neese singled as the Chiefs drove 11 across the plate.

Bailey Wilson pitched the win in six innings for the Chiefs, giving up three hits and one run, and striking out 13 while walking four.
