Softball: Double Dingers For Northview; Tate Nips Niceville

The Northview Chiefs run-ruled W.S. Neal Friday in Bratt, 12-2. Tori Herrington and Aubree Love homered for the Chiefs, the first two-home run for the Chiefs in Bratt in recent memory.
Herrington pitched a complete game for the Chiefs in their final home appearance of the season.

The Northiew Chiefs (16-3, 6,-1) will travel to T.R. Miller Tuesday to end their reason season. The district tournament begins April 23 in Chipley.
Tate 3, Niceville 2
The Tate Lady Aggies beat Niceville Friday night 3-2.
Hanna Brown delivered the win on the mound for Tate, tossing a complete game, allowing two runs, four hits and striking out four.

Tate Moves To Top District Spot, Northview Loses To Freeport

The Tate Aggies moved to the top of District 1-7A Friday night with a 3-2 win over Pace.
Raymond Lafleur earned the victory for the Aggies in six innings, giving up two runs, three hits and striking out 12. Gabe Castro thew one inning in relief, recording the last three outs for the save.
For Tate: Blake Anderson RBI; Reid Halfacre R; Mason Land 1-3, RBI; Hunter McLean RBI.
Freeport 5, Northview 4
Freeport topped the Northview Chiefs 5-4 Friday night.
Tanner Levis pitched 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits, three runs and striking out five. Jackson Moore provided relief allowing one hit and one run.
For Northview: Trevor Singleton R; Moore 2-3, R; Adam Aliff RBI; Seth Kilam 2-3, R; Billy Rolin 1-3; RBI; John Chivington 1-3, R.
The Northview Chiefs will host Pensacola High School Tuesday in Bratt.
Wahoos Fall Short

A late rally fell short as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos lost 3-2 Friday night.
After a promising start to the game, the Blue Wahoos offense never quite found its rhythm. The Wahoos collected three hits in the first inning but didn’t get another hit until the sixth.
Randy LeBlanc took the mound for the Lookouts and struggled the find the strike zone right out of the gates. With two outs in the first, Gavin LaValley doubled to right before Gabby Guerrero and Josh VanMeter both drew walks. Aristides Aquino then ripped a single into to left to bring home LaValley, but the Wahoos tried to sneak another run home, but Chris Paul fired a strong throw home to the plate to throw out Guerrero.
Pensacola left the inning feeling cheated they only scored once.
For the Blue Wahoos, Vladimir Gutierrez made his first home start for the Wahoos and once again showed moments of brilliance despite pocketing the loss. A week after allowing a career high in walks, the 23-year old Cuban issued no free passes to the Lookouts over his six innings. Instead, Gutierrez was nicked for three runs after scattering nine hits and striking out four.
Chattanooga broke through in the third inning when Nick Gordon muscled a triple through the teeth of the wind and then scored on Zander Wiel’s RBI single. In the fourth, the Lookouts added two more when they strung together a three-hit rally that included a hit batsman.
With two on, Ryan Walker singled home Brent Rooker before Gordon added the second of his two-hit night to score catcher Brian Navaretto and make it a 3-1 Chattanooga lead.
After the first inning, the Blue Wahoos wouldn’t record another hit until the sixth inning when LaValley singled to right to lead off the inning. A rally never came to be because the next two hitters flew out and grounded into a double-play, respectively.
Pensacola tried to conjure up some late magic in the eighth inning when Shed Long led off the inning with a single. Alfredo Rodriguez then hit into what appeared to be a fielder’s choice, but no Lookouts infielders were covering the bag at second allowing everyone to be safe. LaValley added his third hit of the night to load the bases, setting the stage for Guerrero. Although the Wahoos center fielder didn’t disappoint, the fish were snake bitten again by Lookouts defense again.
Guerrero singled to center scoring Long, but Rodriguez was thrown out by LaMonte Wade at the plate to keep the score line at 3-2. With the tying run still at second, VanMeter struck out to end the threat.
Chattanooga called on Williams Ramirez to finish off the Wahoos, and despite allowing a leadoff single to Aquino, he retired the next three batters in order to give the Lookouts their first win of the season.

The top four athletes in each event advance to the regional meet April 24-26 in Tallahassee.

Anderson Grand Slams For Tate; Love Homers For Northview; Lady Aggies Win

Blake Anderson hit a grand slam for the Tate Aggies Thursday night in a 10-5 win over the Pace Patriots.
The Tate High School Aggies took a fifth inning lead into a win Thursday night against the Pace Patriots. Tied at two in the bottom of the fifth, the Aggies went ahead on an Pace error.
Cole Fryman earned the win with five runs on five hits and striking out three in six innings on the mound.
Tate’s Reid Halfacre, Trent Jeffcoat and Darrien McDowell doubled.
SOFTBALL
Northview 11, Catholic 1
Aubree Love homered as the Northview Lady Chiefs topped Catholic’s Lady Crusaders 11-1 Thursday night in Pensacola.
Tori Herrington pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
For Tate: Herffington 2-5; Love 1-2, Heather Knoles 2-5, Anna Sullivan 2-5, Kendall Enfinger 3-5, 2RBI.
The Lady Chiefs will host W.S. Neal Friday at 6 p.m. in Bratt.
Tate 2, Gulf Breeze 0
Sydni Solliday tripled and Belle Wolfenden doubled as the Tate Lady Aggies beat Gulf Breeze 2-0 Thursday night.
Tate’s Hanna Brown allowed just one hit while striking out eight in seven innings.

Northview Football Releases Schedule, Names 2018 Football Coaching Staff

Head Coach Derek Marshman has named his 2018-2019 football coaching staff, and the school has released their football schedules for the upcoming season.
Coaches are: Eric Jefferson, Kevin Bryan, Greg Gibson, John Madison, Jared Aliff, Tyler Reaves, Doug Godwin and Glenn Weber.
“I am really excited about the upcoming season. We have a lot of key returners at key positions. The kids are excited and have worked hard and have high aspirations. I am really excited to see the offseason development in the weight room translate to the field and see some kids that have matured excel,” said Marshman.
The Chiefs will start spring practice on April 23. The Chiefs will host Escambia County High School of Atmore in spring game on May 18. There also a Garnet and Gold spring scrimmage in the works, but a date has not been finalized.

Wahoos Win Home Opener

In a showdown of the defending Southern League champions, Pensacola used stellar pitching and timely hitting to squeak past the Lookouts in the Blue Wahoos home opener.
The celebrations started early throughout the stadium. Fans came early to watch the presentation of the championship rings to returning members of last year’s winning team. Once the hardware was passed out, the Blue Wahoos raised their first ever championship banner beyond the center-field wall.
Once the players took the field, Daniel Wright (W, 1-1) made sure the applause didn’t end there. The Memphis native bounced back from his Opening Day struggles and neutralized Chattanooga’s bats through six innings. He held the defending North Division champs to just one run on three hits while striking out three. After running into a slight hiccup in the first inning, Wright was in total control retiring the next 11 Lookouts in-a-row.
Pensacola’s offense turned in a total team effort, with four different Wahoos producing RBIs and six different fish scoring runs. Chadwick Tromp turned in a 2-for-4 performance for his first multi-RBI effort of the season and Gavin LaValley added his team-leading sixth RBI of the season.
The Wahoos used small ball to open the scoring in the third. Shed Long led off the inning with a single and then stole second base off Lookouts starter Zack Littell (L, 0-1). LaValley followed by poking a single into right to score Long.
Pensacola added two more in the fourth thanks to clutch hitting by Taylor Sparks and Tromp. After an O’Grady double, followed by a stolen base. On a 3-2 pitch, Sparks lined a single to left to double the Blue Wahoos advantage. That’s when Tromp doubled down the left-field line to score Sparks for his first of two RBIs.
It appeared Pensacola put the game out of reach when Guerrero crushed his first home run of the season off Zack Jones in the seventh to make it a 6-1 lead. Last season, Guerrero didn’t record his first homerun at Blue Wahoos Stadium until July 25.
The Lookouts saved their best for last with a furious ninth inning rally that nearly ruined the Blue Wahoos party. Carlos Navas struggled out of the bullpen and issued walks to Chris Paul and Zander Wiel before surrendering a three-run home run to T.J. White to make it a 6-4 game.
Jody Davis opted for a change and called upon Robinson Leyer to record the final two outs of the game. Leyer’s command was never in tune and he hit Wynston Sawyer with a pitch before walking Ryan Walker. Again, Davis went to the bullpen and this time brought in left hander Brennan Bernardino to pitch to the left-handed hitting Nick Gordon.
Gordon singled into right field to bring home Sawyer, but as Walker tried to go first-to-third, right-fielder Aristides Aquino unleashed a spectacular throw to third base to throw out Walker. Bernardino then froze Tanner English to pick up an unexpected first save of the season.
Jays Tops Northview In 11

The Jay Royals topped the Northview Chiefs 8-3 in 11 innings Tuesday night in Bratt.
The Chiefs took an early three-run advantage after one, while the Royals added two in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 3-3 tie headed into extra innings. The Royals took the win in the 11th after a go head squeeze bunt in the eleventh from Dutch Burkhead.
Blayne Miller allowed one hit while striking out two in 4.1 innings to earn the win for Jay, while Josh Majors went 6.2 innings allowing four hits, three runs and striking out 10.
Northview junior Seth Killam went 6.1 innings, striking out 12, allowing two hits and three runs. Trevor Singleton pitched four innings with four hits, four runs, four strikeouts while walking four.
Jay (8-4, 6-0) will host Chipley (4-10, 1-4) on Friday. Northview (12-6, 2-4) will travel to Freeport (11-4, 4-2) Friday.

Tori Herrington pitched a complete game with 12 strikouts while going 2-4 at the plate. At the plate for the Northview: Ashley Ragsdale 3-6, Valen Shelley 3-4, Aubree Love 4-6, Kendall Enfinger 1-2, Linda Smith 3-5.
