Washington Blanks Northview

The Washington High School Wildcats beat the Northview Chiefs 6-0 Monday in Pensacola.
The Wildcats victory came with a strong second inning for a 5-0 lead, plus another run in the fourth.
Trevor Singleton took the loos on the mound for the Chiefs, pitching three innings, allowing six hits and five runs, and striking out one. Jackson Moore pitched relief for three innings giving up one run on five hits and striking out three.
At the plate, Tanner Levins had the only hit of the night for the Chiefs.
Monday’s game wrapped up the regular season for Northview (14-8, 2-5). The district tournament begins April 30.
Wahoos Split Doubleheader With Birmingham Barons

When Sunday’s suspended game resumed on Monday night, the Wahoos turned in a strong offensive performance to win 9-5. In the second game, the Barons flipped the script and handed the Wahoos a 6-0 loss.
The opening game began in the bottom of the third inning with the Wahoos already ahead 4-0. Eloy Jimenez led off the fourth and launched his first Double-A homerun—and his first hit—to left to make it 4-1. It was the first of two home runs on the day for the Chicago White Sox top prospect.
Josh VanMeter, who already had two hits when play was suspended on Sunday, roped a bases-clearing double off Jorge Rondón, which extended Pensacola’s lead to 7-2. After Danny Mendick’s two-run home run in the bottom of the top of the fifth, Shed Long responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-out double to score Taylor Sparks to make it 8-4. Later in the game, Sparks extended his hitting streak to eight games with a leadoff triple, and eventually scored on Nick Longhi’s second hit of the game.
Seth Varner (W, 1-0) took the mound for the Wahoos in the opener and pitched four innings in relief to earn his first career Double-A win. Spencer Adams (L, 1-1), who started the game for the Barons on Sunday, was handed the loss.
In the second game, home runs generated all of the Barons offense. Trey Michalczewski hit a two-run homer in the second inning off Wahoos starter Vladimir Gutierrez (L, 0-3) to give Birmingham a quick 2-0 lead. Then Seby Zavala doubled the visitor’s advantage with a two-run shot in the fourth with his fourth homer of the season. Mendick finished the scoring with a two-run home run in the seventh, his third of the series, to make it 6-0.
Jordan Stephens (W, 1-3) showed why he is considered to be a top pitching prospect for the White Sox. The right-hander dealt six scoreless innings against the Wahoos and stuck out two. Even when it seemed like the Wahoos had rallies developing, Stephens would induce a double-play to end the threat. Pensacola grounded into three double plays, and only had two runners in scoring position on the night. Long finished the night hitless, and his on-base streak came to an end at 14 games.
Jay Top Seed, Northview Second In District Softball Playoff

The Jay Royals are the number one seed in this week’s 3-1A district softball playoffs, while the Northview Chiefs are second seed.
Games are scheduled as follows in Chipley:
1. Monday- Game 1- #5 Baker vs #4 Chipley- 6 p.m.
2. Tuesday- Game 2- #3 Freeport vs #2 Northview- 5 p.m.
3. Tuesday- Game 3- Winner of game 1 vs #1 Jay – 7 p.m.
4. Thursday- Game 4- Winner of game 2 vs the winner of game 3- 7 p.m.
In the event game 4, the championship game, is Northview vs. Jay, the game will be played at Jay, not Chipley.

Molino 8U Raptors And Mets Take Tops Spots In Mid Season Tourney

A couple of Molino teams finished on top of the the Mid Season Tournament this weekend in Brent. The Molino U8U Raptors coach pitch team, lead by head coach Josh Cook, came in first place, while the Molino Mets with coaches Brandon Brown and Randy Ard came in second place. Barons Beat The Wahoos

Daniel Wright continued his recent string of dominance to open the season turning his one of his best career starts. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as the Barons claimed the series opener over the Blue Wahoos 2-1 Saturday night in front of a capacity crowd at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Wright flirted with perfection early in the game by retiring the first 12 Barons that came to the plate in the series opener. It felt like fortune may have been on Wright’s side when Aristides Aquino made a pair of catches to rob the Barons of base hits. However, Seby Zavala crashed the party with a home run on the first pitch he saw in the fifth inning to give the Barons a 1-0 lead.
Wright maintained his poise and immediately retired the side in order after the home run. He was finished after seven innings give up just the one hit on Zaval’s homer.
Matt Tomshaw, while not as spotless as Wright, turned in an equally fine performance for the Barons. The southpaw scattered seven hits throughout his six innings of work for his second quality start in as many outings. His only real blemish on the night came in the fifth inning, when the Wahoos rallied for one run on three hits. Taylor Sparks and Garrett Boulware led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and Sparks scored on Shed Long’s second hit of the night. The threat was quickly neutralized when the Barons doubled up Boulware on a lineout to centerfield by Luis Gonzalez.
Birmingham dealt the final blow in the top of the ninth when Danny Mendick homered off Rafael De Paula to give Birmingham a 2-1 lead. It was both Mendick’s first home run of the season, and the second home run De Paula had surrendered in as many outings.
The Wahoos had a flicker of hope in the ninth when Gabriel Guerrero led off the inning with a single and eventually landed on second after Zavala’s first passed ball of the season. Despite the tying run in scoring position, Barons closer Ian Hamilton remained unphased and retired the next three Wahoos in order for his third save of the season. Birmingham snapped their six-game losing streak with a two-hit, two home run performance to steal the series opener.
White Sox top prospect Eloy Jimenez finished the game 0-for-3 with a walk. He attempted to tag and score the go-ahead run on Matt Rose’s fly ball in the seventh inning but was thrown out at the plate by Aquino’s wonderful throw for an inning-ending double play.
The series will continue tomorrow afternoon when Reds #22 prospect Keury Mella (2-0, 1.06) toes the rubber for the Wahoos against one of the White Sox top pitching prospects in RHP Spencer Adams (1-0, 4.05). Adams entered 2018 as the White Sox #12 prospect in the organization, according to Baseball America.

The Tate Aggies beat the Escambia Gators 7-2 Friday night.
Gabe Castro pitched the win for the Aggies in five innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four. Cole Fryman opened thee game for the Aggies. He allowed one hit and one run over one inning, striking out one. Jace Dunsford earned the last three outs, throwing on inning in relief.

The Northview Chiefs took home a 12-2 victory over Chipley in five innings Friday night.
Seth Killam earned the win for the Chiefs allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five.

Flag Football: Girls Take On Linemen, NJROTC

The Northview girls flag football team took on the boys football team linemen and the NJROTC Thursday in a flag football game. The linemen beat the girls 34-0, and the NJROTC topped the girls 14-6.
This was the first year for a Northview flag football team. Next year, the school plans to take part in the district series.

Tate Baseball Gets Ready For Senior Night With Win Over Escambia: Lady Aggies Beat Navarre

The Tate Aggies beat the Escambia Gators Thursday night, 10-5.
Lafleur pitched the win for Tate. He allowed five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out four. Reid Halfacre and Ryan Greene helped to close out the game in relief. Halfacre recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Tate.

Hanna Brown took the victory for the Lady Aggies in seven innings, allowing two runs, two hits and striking out two. Brown singled in the bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win.

Wahoos Fall To Mississippi Braves

The Blue Wahoos dropped their second straight to the Braves falling 3-2 despite a fine performance on the mound from Jesus Reyes (L, 0-3).
The Braves opened the scoring with a run in the first inning. Luis Valenzuela led off with a double and scored two batters later on an Austin Riley double. They made it 2-0 in the third inning, taking advantage of a leadoff hit by pitch. Reyes hit Travis Demeritte to start the frame and he came home on an RBI groundout by Tyler Neslony. The Braves added, what proved to be, a key insurance run in the seventh. Daniel Lockhart led off with a hustle double and scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Alex Jackson.
Pensacola was held hitless until Shed Long singled with one out in the sixth inning, but the Blue Wahoos couldn’t break through for a run until the eighth inning. C.J. McElroy led the inning off with a pinch-hit single ahead of another single from Major League rehabber Scott Schebler. The Blue Wahoos loaded the bases with nobody out ahead of Gavin LaValley, who lifted a deep sacrifice fly to right field. McElroy came home for the first Wahoos run of the game. Schebler scored later in the inning on a wild pitch before the tying run was stranded at second.
Pensacola had another chance in the ninth inning. Taylor Sparks ripped a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out, but the next two batters struck out to end the game.
Despite taking the loss, Reyes struck out a season-high nine batters over five innings. He surrendered just two runs on five hits without allowing a walk. Kevin Shackelford continued his rehab assignment by working 1.2 innings. He was charged with one run on just one hit. He walked two and struck out one. Devon Watts earned the win for the M-Braves out of the bullpen. He worked two scoreless innings and Jacob Webb pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
The two teams wrap up the series with the rubber match Friday night.
