L.C. Stewart, age 86, of Stockton, AL passed away on July 12, 2023. He was born on May 3, 1937, in Perdido, AL, to T.C. and Catherine Stewart. He worked as a forestry pulpwood loader. He is preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda Allen Stewart; his sons, Billy Stewart of Rabun, AL and Barry (Angie) Stewart of Stockton, AL; his daughters, Robin Pipkin of Bay Minette, AL, Marie (Toby) Eaton of Bay Minette, AL and Sherry (Paul) Barker of Spring Hill, FL; his sister, Lizzie Bell Skipper of Huxford, AL and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, at noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Earl Crook officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Barren Baptist Church Cemetery in Davisville, FL.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 11 a.m. until service time at noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL.
Billy Joe Burt

Our Heavenly Father accepted another angel July 5, 2023, Billy Burt, age 71. He was born in Monroeville, Alabama on July 19, 1951. Billy graduated from Tate High School in 1969, then attended PJC while working.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Montez (Ivey) Burt and Chesley Buford Burt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Charlza Boren Burt; sisters, Becky (Ricky) Wiggins and Cathy (John) Huelsbeck; nephew Michael (Ashley) Huelsbeck; and great niece, Hazel Huelsbeck.
Billy was the owner of Burt Construction and Vinyl for many years. He had a passion for cooking, gardening, fishing, sports, and was an Alabama football fan through and through. He always loved socializing with friends and watching Alabama football. Billy loved to ride on his golf cart up and down the street each day and enjoyed talking with anyone available to chat. He was a very caring, passionate and giving person.
He always took very good care of his wife, Charlza and their beloved pets, Allie, Bam Bam, Cuddles, Little Bit, Doc, and Buddy. Billy never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by many.
Two of his favorite quotes were “You Want to Bet” and “Roll Tide.”
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Faith Chapel North.
The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. prior to services.

Stacy Neal Jefferson, 58, native of Pensacola, Florida passed away Friday, July 7, 2023. Stacy was born January 2, 1965, to Edwin Neal Jefferson and Carron Jean Garland. He had a lifelong relationship with Jo Ann Jefferson. Stacy was employed at Roads, Inc. for 23 years. He enjoyed fishing and plants. He was known for his green thumb.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Carron “Dixie” Rackham.
Stacy is survived by his daughters, Brandi McGaughey and Stephanie Jefferson; five grandchildren, Jake, Emma, Evan, Carter and Luca; father, Edwin Neal Jefferson; and four brothers, James Michael Akins, Joseph Lee Akins, Bubba Jefferson and Zachary Jefferson.
A Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Joel Dennis (JD) Edmonson

Joel Dennis (JD) Edmonson, 86, of Molino, FL, passed from this earth to his heavenly destination on Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was born in Escambia County, FL, on May 12, 1937, to Joiel and Eula Mae Edmonson.
He was a retired floor mechanic and a hard worker. He spent much of his early years laying floors at military bases in multiple states across the country and laid most of the tile at local hospitals and schools in the Pensacola area. He raised his boys to have the same work ethic and taught them everything he knew about the business. He had a passion for mullet fishing and could tell you where your mullet was caught with just a quick taste test. You wouldn’t know it by his quiet demeanor, but he was also a big prankster, just ask his sisters or old buddies on the job. He will always be remembered by that sideways grin and the twinkle in his eyes.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joiel and Eula Mae Edmonson; his brother, Eugene Edmonson; and his son, David Edmonson.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jo Edmonson of 58 ½ years; his children, Brian (Tammy) Edmonson, Denise (Russ) Eastin, Jerome Edmonson, and Priscilla (Neal) Lewis; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his brothers, Durwood, Kenny, James, Johnny Ray, John, Billy and Travis; and his sisters; Shirlon, Betty, Gwen, Sue, Mary, Myrtle, and Eula.

Patricia Grantham Jensen, 83, passed away peacefully in Pensacola, Florida, on June 23, 2023.
The daughter of the late James and Catherine Grantham, “Pat” grew up in Marianna, Florida, with brothers Jerry Grantham, James “Jim” Grantham (Jeanette), and John “Butch” Grantham (Peggy). Brothers Jerry and Jim preceded her in death. It was in the mid-1950s that Pat met the love of her life, Carroll James Jensen, who survives her, and with whom she shared over 67 years of marriage. Together they raised a loving family, including daughters Pamela K. Turner, who passed away in 2014, and Lisa Jensen Tingley (Tom), of Florence, Kentucky. Pat was a proud and loving grandmother to Lena Adams (Gary) of Milton, Melisa Alvarez (Chad) of Fairhope, Alabama, and Michelle Tingley of Columbus, Ohio. Pat was a much beloved great-grandmother to Brooklyn Woodside of Pensacola and Halle Kate Alvarez of Fairhope, Alabama.
For many years, Pat worked within the Escambia County School System, where she had many roles, including working in the Dean’s Office at J. M. Tate High School. She loved all the students she worked with and they kept her young-at-heart! She was also an active volunteer leader in her daughter’s 4-H club because she loved supporting children.
Following her retirement, Pat volunteered in the office of the late Dr. Amos Prevatt, MD, for many years. She filled her days with family, friends, reading, playing games, and found humor and beauty in many things. She said she was never bored a day in her life! Hers was a generous spirit that never failed to support or encourage others, and this trait, along with her easy laugh, will be how her family and friends remember her. As we go forward we know, as Pat often said, “it’ll be alright ‘ole yady!”

David Kendall ‘Dave’ Latner

David Kendall “Dave” Latner, Jr. of Cantonment, Florida passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the age of 54.
He was born in Pensacola, Florida, to Deborah Jetton Kimrey and David Kendall Latner, Sr. He was a Tate “Aggies” High School graduate.
Dave worked for Blossom Gas as an Industrial liquid propane gas delivery man. He had a passion for drag racing and was often known as the “Gear Head”, but his love was his two daughters.
Dave is survived by his two daughters, Ashley (Nathan) Matusiak and Olivea Latner; mother, Debbie Kimrey; father, David (Jane) Latner, Sr; sister, Mandy Latner; granddaughters, Sophia and Avery Matusiak; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Wes Alvarez officiating.

Gary Wayne Shook, Sr.

Gary Wayne Shook, Sr., 51, of Brookfield, CT, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Danbury Hospital after a long, courageous battle with a series of illnesses.
Gary was born on August 2, 1971, in New Milford, CT, a son of the late Donna (Osborne) Shook and Terry Shook.
Gary loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping with his family, riding his motorcycle, hunting, gardening, and also was an avid fisherman. Gary loved to fish, whether it was along the ocean shores, the beach at Silver Sands State Park in Milford, or up and down the brooks and creeks in Bridgewater (his hometown) and Roxbury Falls with his daughter Michaela. Gary had a kind, gentle heart and enjoyed the peaceful solitude of nature. He was the kind of man who would wake in the morning twilight with a cup of coffee in hand, just to go outside and watch the sun rise, listen to the animals wake up, and the woods come to life. He also enjoyed clamming, smoking meat, and cooking on the grill. Gary was a master at playing darts and was a member of the Western Connecticut Dart League and played on the team Fast Eddies #1 (of Fast Eddies Billiards Café in New Milford).
Left to cherish Gary’s memory are his four children: Gary Shook, Jr. of Walnut Hill, FL, James Shook of Century, FL, Justin Shook of New Milford, CT, and Michaela Shook of Manassas, VA; his brother Kevin Shook and his wife Lisa, and his sister Kathleen Léon and her husband Samuel, all of Albuquerque, NM; his dearest grandchildren: Clover Shook, Ryder Shook, and Maybree Johnson; his nieces and nephews: Kaelin Shook, Rosie Léon, Alicia Léon, Mateo Léon, Diego Léon, Carlos Léon; as well as so many dear friends.
Gary’s family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 29, 2023 which will begin with a Memorial Motorcycle Ride at 12:30 pm — Attendees are asked to meet at 5 Danbury Rd. in New Milford, CT, at 12:30 pm, with kickstands up at 1:30 pm. After the hour-long ride in Gary’s honor, proceed to Fast Eddies Billiards Café, 46 Old State Rd. in New Milford for a memorial gathering at 3 pm.
Samuel Keith ‘Sammy’ Gibbs

Mr. Samuel Keith “Sammy” Gibbs, age 61, passed away, Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in Birmingham, AL. He has resided in the Atmore area most of his life and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
Mr. Gibbs loved farming. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to the beach. He was president of Alfa Insurance Board for 20 years and an avid Auburn Football Fan. He was always a very generous and giving person.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee (Mary Frances) Gibbs, one nephew, Scott Gibbs.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Annette Gibbs, of Atmore, AL; one step-daughter, Brittany (Cody) McElroy, of Atmore, AL; two brothers, Tony (Wanda) Gibbs, of Walnut Hill, FL; Bob (Pam) Gibbs, of Monroeville, AL; one sister, Cheryl Gibbs, of Spanish Fort, AL; one step-grandson, Will McElroy, numerous nieces, nephews, a special friend, Tim Mullek, and other relatives.

John Calvin ‘Little Crow’ Dannelley

Mr. John Calvin “Little Crow” Dannelley, age 57, passed away, Monday, July 10, 2023, in Mobile, AL. He was a resident of Atmore most of his life. He was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and was employed with them for 6 years farming. He was a long haul truck driver for many years.
Mr. Dannelley enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his dog “Sassy”. He enjoyed riding and doing tractor work. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan and enjoyed sitting around in his recliner watching westerns.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Calvin Dannelley, mother, Mable McGhee St. Germain, and one brother, Bobby Dannelley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Sandra Dannelley, of Lottie, AL; two step-sons, Joseph Lee (Sadie) Boyette, of Dover, DE; Kenneth Lee Boyette, of TN; one sister, Cindy Bryars, of Poarch, AL; two grandchildren, Ryan Boyette, Kaitlyn Boyette, other relatives, and friends.

Betty Jo Smith Perkins House

Ms. Betty Jo Smith Perkins House, age 86, of Northport, AL; (formerly an Atmore resident) went to her eternal home on Monday, July 3, 2023, surrounded by her children, some family and friends. Her greatest earthly treasure was her family and she enjoyed visiting with and going on trips with them. Betty grew up on a farm and enjoyed spending “sister time” putting up fresh vegetables. She loved sports, playing basketball and softball in her younger years. As well as coaching softball in Atmore, and traveling to watch children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews play. Betty was a devout BAMA fan who watched football, tailgated, and attended more Alabama Softball games than we can count. In fact, she was one of the first members of Alabama Softball’s “Walk Off” Club. Betty was the first girls’ softball coach to help establish league play for girls’ softball coach to help establish league for girls in Atmore. In her later years, she developed a bond with the Shelton State College girls’ basketball team as she made banana puddings for their Wednesday night church service at Northport Methodist Church. Betty also retired from Vanity Fair in Atmore, momma, granny, sis, aunt, friend and coach, this lady touched many lives and leaves behind many memories for us to cherish.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert L. “Kit” Smith, mother, Maggie Pearl Commalander Smith, three sisters, Linda Sue Greer, Sherry Lynn Powell, Rhonda Lynette Smith, one grandson, Thomas Guy Byrne IV, one great-grandson, Brett Bonds, and one son-in law, Thomas Guy Byrne III.
She is survived by her one son, John T. (Jean) Perkins, of Northport, AL; two daughters, Joann (Larry) Bonds, of Atmore, AL; Janice Byrne, of Stockton, AL; four brothers, Ronnie Smith, of Wellington, FL; Roy (Linda) Smith, of Montgomery, TX; Roger (Mabeline) Smith, of Porter, TX; Ray (Mena) Smith, of Houston, TX; Peggy (Lewis) Johnson, of Shiloh, GA; Glenda Morgan, of Byrneville, FL; Pat Ammons, of Atmore, AL; ten grandchildren, Lori Rider, Larry Wayne Bonds, Stephen Bonds, Joshua Bonds, Nikki Lile, Chris Byrne, Katherine Byrne, Tina Walby, Tiffany Cierocke, Tierney Jo Broadwater, special care giver, Amy Wilson, and other relatives.
