Linda Lee Cofield Peacock

Mrs. Linda Lee Cofield Peacock, 70, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, in Mobile.

Mrs. Peacock was a native of Flomaton, a former resident of Byrneville and a resident of Grand Bay for the past 27 years. Mrs. Peacock was an employee of Landis Flag Car Service with 28 years of service, where she was better known as “BlueJean”. She was a bus driver for the Escambia County Florida School Board with 13 years of service.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Tayna Marie Cox.

Survivors include her son, Greg (JoAnn) Peacock of Spanish Fort; daughter, Jeralynn Rene Scott of Mobile; four brothers, Gerald (Flo) Cofield of Flomaton, Kenny Slater of Grand Bay, Nicki Cofield of Flomaton and Lee Cofield of Kingsland, GA; one sister, Clara (Jack) Bonner of Needham, AL; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Thompson and Rev. James Bonner officiating.

Burial will follow at Traveler’s Rest Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 13, 2012, from 12:30 p.m. until funeral time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Billy Bonner, David Bonner, Chris Slater, Daniel Scott, Michael Powell and Dan Harrelson.

Dennis Len Vickery

October 11, 2012

Dennis Len Vickery, 55 of Poarch, passed away Tuesday October 09, 2012, at his residence. He was a carpenter born in Atmore on March 05, 1955 to the late William W. and Larncile McGhee Vickery.

Survivors include four brothers, William L. (Leslie) Vickery, Ernest (Evelyn) Vickery, both of Poarch, Arnold (Jeannie) Vickery of Dadeville, AL, and Bruce Glen Vickery of Poarch; one sister, Connie F. Vickery of Poarch; nieces and nephews, Randal, Jennifer, Ashley, Ariel, Dawn, Justin, Victoria and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be Friday, October 12, 2012, at 3 p.m. from the Atmore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leo Luker, Jr officiating.

Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Danny Jackson, Jimmy Campbell, David McGhee, Chris Blackburn, Ronnie Rolin and Paul Pearson.

Honorary Pallbearers are Don Wayne Rolin, Elvis Presley and Hubert “Bubba” Rolin.

Julia Bryars Gibbs

October 10, 2012

Julia Bryars Gibbs, 89, born September 21, 1923, went home to be with her Lord on October 09, 2012. Julia was a life long resident of Atmore.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Hollis Gibbs; parents, Clarence and Mae Boggan Bryars; brothers, Clarence L. Bryars, Ellis Bryars, Elton Bryars and sister Ruth Bryars Caraway.

Julia was employed by Southland Telephone Company for 30 years and spent her later years traveling with her husband in his work to Puerto Rico and the Panama Canal Zone.  Upon retirement they traveled the country and enjoyed their beach house and farm. Julia was a brave and courageous lady who fought the good fight and won the battle.  She was a source of inspiration to her siblings, children and all who knew her. We were all blessed to have her in our lives and her legacy will live on through her family.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Bart (Linda) Gibbs of Molino; Portia Gibbs (Norman) Goss of Montgomery, Tom (Beth) Gibbs of Charleston, S.C., Wyman (Teresa) Gibbs of Athens, AL, Ayla Hixson of Birmingham; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild;  four sisters,  Betty (Vernon) Vinson of Pace; Laurie (J.T.) Moseley of Bay Minette; Mary Jo (Charles) Fickling of Perdido; Sammie (Lonnie) Turberville of Atmore; four sisters-in-law, Lillian Bryars of Pensacola, Nell Bryars of Atmore, Mary Gibbs of Monroeville, and Ruth Bryars of Albany, GA.

Services will be Friday, October 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends, Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m.

A special thank you to her loving caretakers, Faye Lee, Martha Colbert and Sandy Flowers, Covenant Hospice and Mitzi Thomas for there many acts of kindness.

Vernon Bernard Barnhill

Mr. Vernon Bernard Barnhill, 71, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012, in Pensacola.

Mr. Barnhill was a native of Huxfordand a former resident of Navarre and has resided in Pensacola for the past nine years. Mr. Barnhill was retired from the Escambia County Animal Shelter after 30 years of service. He was a dedicated worker.

Survivors include the mother of his children, Elizabeth Lambeth of Stockton; one son, Timothy Vernon Barnhill of Navarre; one daughter, Angela Dawn (Jim) Jarvis of Navarre; one brother, Charles Barnhill of Cantonment; two grandchildren, Ceceliah Lewis and Daniel Jarvis and one great-grandchild, Brantley Burke.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Robbins and Eloise Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at Semirah Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2012, from12:30 p.m. until funeral time at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Margaret White “Sweet” Stuckey

Mrs. Margaret White ‘Sweet’ Stuckey, age 83 of Century, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Mrs. Stuckey was a native of Brewton and had been a member of the Century community since 1949 coming from Flomaton. She was a homemaker, a member of the Century Historical Society and of Bryneville United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Roy ‘Tommy’ Stuckey, Jr.

She is survived by her sons, Roy Michael (Jennifer) Stuckey of Ottsville, PA; Benjamin (Geri) Stuckey of Cape Canaveral; and her daughter, Linda (David) Williams of Pensacola; her brother, Sammy (Joanne) White of Flomaton and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 until 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Byrneville United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Chris Hawkins and Rev. Freddy Stallworth officiating.

Interment will be in Byrneville United Methodist Cemetery.

Donnie Ray Mullins, Sr.

October 8, 2012

Mr. Donnie Ray Mullins, Sr., age 57 of Century, went to be with our Heavenly Father on the morning of Saturday, October 6, 2012, after a lengthy illness.

Donnie is survived by his three children, Donnie R. Mullins, Jr. of Century, Christopher J. Mullins and Nicole Lee and their mother, Cathy Mullins of Mississippi. He is also survived by his loving father and mother, Riley and Mary Mullins of Century; two sisters, Laura Chancery of McDavid and Charlotte Collins of Flomaton and eight wonderful grandchildren.

Donnie was an employee of Ingalls Shipyard in Mississippi for 24 years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Mullins of Jay who passed away on October 11, 2011.

Services were held on Monday, October 8, 2012, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Chancery officiating. Interment followed in Ray’s Chapel Cemetery in Bogia.

Margaret Louise Campbell Gandy

Ms. Margaret Louise Campbell Gandy 73 of Molino, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012.

Ms. Gandy was born January 8, 1939, to Rufus and Katie Campbell in Century and had resided in Molino for 10 years coming from Century.

She was the owner of Gandy’s Ambulance Service and then went to work for Escambia County Emergency Medical Services as a supervisor and coordinator. After retiring from Escambia County, she started Gandy’s Nursery and Landscaping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Katie Campbell; brothers, Dennis and Cornelius Campbell; her children, Troy Gandy and Dianne Salter.

She is survived by her daughter, Katie (Roger) Burkett of Century; son, Robert (Yvette) Gandy of Berrydale; brothers, Billy (Faye) Campbell of Pensacola, James (Velda) Campbell of Century; sister, Dorthy Johnson of Century; 10 grandchildren, Patrick (Cara) Salter of Milton, Maunica (Will) Williams of Century, Mickey (Robbie Lynn) Burkett of Flomaton, Carlyn (Wesley) Salter of Jay, Jeremy (Monica) Grimes of Century, Javis Grimes of Century, Megan (Anthony) Golden of Berrydale, Jared Gandy of Berrydale, Joy (Justin) White of Jay, Philip Gandy of Berrydale and Kennedy Salter of Jay. She was the proud great-grandmother of 11 beautiful great-grandchildren, Emily, Rebecca, Trinity, Joshua, Ava, Jacklynn and Weston Salter, Madalyn and Kendall Grimes, Landon Golden and Amber Burkett; many nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Berrydale Baptist Church in Berrydale from 6 until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Berrydale Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in McCurdy Cemetery in Century.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Salter, Jeremy Grimes, Javis Grimes, Jarred Gandy, Philip Gandy, Will Williams, and Justin White.

Helen Louise Jackson

October 1, 2012

Mrs. Helen Louise Jackson, age 79 of Century, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012, at Jay Hospital.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Century and spent her lifetime there. She was a homemaker and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, J.B. Jackson of Century; daughters, Terri (Mark) Fremin of Century,  Julia (Stacey) Long of Dahlonega, GA and Debrah Jackson of Century; brother, Bob Carnley of Brownsville, TX; sister, Carrie Jackson of DeQuincy, LA; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Cloud and Rev. Steve Hart officiating.

Interment will be in McCurdy Cemetery in Century.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Long, Brandon Long, Matthew Thomas, Jay Croley, Adam Johnson, Josh Butts, and Cody Fowler.

Addie Belle Copeland

October 1, 2012

Addie Belle Copeland, 89 of Atmore, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012.  She taught school for 38 years. The last 25 years of those were at Davis Elementary School. She retired in 1980, was an active member of First Baptist Church of Atmore and worked tirelessly for many years teaching Sunday school, training union, vacation Bible school and initiated the Bible drill program.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Eddie Carl Copeland.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Copeland of Montgomery; her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Anita Copeland of Cary, NC;  two grandchildren, Jared (Ali) Copeland of Austin, TX, and Laura Copeland (Terry) Pollard of Tulsa, OK; three great-grandchildren, Jack and Chuck Copeland, and Mya Pollard.

Services will be Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Atmore with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Interment and graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Longino Baptist Church Cemetery in Philadelphia, MS.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dr. John Smith’s Sunday school class.

Family will receive friends Tuesday October 2, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Atmore from 9 a.m. until service time.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Isaac Odell McDonald

September 30, 2012

Isaac Odell McDonald, 89 of Cantonment  passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012.

He is survived by his son, Michael McDonald of Washington D.C.; daughter, Taunya (Dubon) Pierce of Pensacola; grandsons, Trey and Todd Pierce of Pensacola and a host of nieces and nephews, friends and extended church family.

Even though life on this earth has ended for Isaac, his eternal life with his heavenly Father has just begun. He was a devoted Christian, a loving father and grandfather.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 29, 2012, with burial at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.
