Ellie Black, Sr.

Mr. Ellie Black, Sr., 85, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012, in Century.
Mr. Black was a native of Hog Wallow, AL, and a resident of Century since 1960. Mr. Black was a member of Boilermaker Local 119 of Mobile, a veteran of World War II and retired from Container Corp of America. He was a member of Flomaton branch of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ida Black of Century; three sons, Glynn J. (Donna) Black of Deatsville, AL; Ellie (Belinda) Black of Seminole, AL, and Donald Ray Black of Century; one daughter, Linda Black Davis of Bratt; one sister, Earnestine Bell of Cottage Hill; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 11 at the Petty Eastside Chapel with Mr. Richard Ash officiating.
Burial was at Community of Christ Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shaun Black, Jamie Black, Hunter Davis, Tyler Davis, Russel Galbreth and Maurice Dixon.
Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Barrow, Eddie Bondurant, Freddie McCall and Luke Whidbee.

Judith Groover Robbins Hall

Judith Groover Robbins Hall, 70, died peacefully in her sleep on August 7, 2012, after a three year battle with lung cancer. She was born July 1, 1942, in Macon, GA, to John Edward and Beulah Mae (Johns) Groover. Her early years were spent in the Waycross, GA, area and Palatka, FL.
A longtime resident of Walnut Hill, she was a homemaker, a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church and a pioneer of Northwest Escambia Little League. But her real passion was people as evidenced by her 40 year involvement with Tupperware.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest Jerry Hall; her step-father, Irvin Beasley; sons Alan Robbins (Anneliese), Jacksonville, FL, Phillip Robbins (Cheri), Pace; stepson Mark Hall (Debra), Thomasville, GA; brothers, Larry Groover (Jo-Anne), Gunter, TX, Joe Beasley (Susie), Stockbridge, GA; grandchildren Alex, Travis, and Ashton; step-grandchildren Jennifer, Katie, Bruce, Wendy, Megan, Brandon, Jerica, Samantha, and Lacie; nieces, nephews, numerous step great-grandchildren, and special friends Arlene Delafosse, Sharon Dawson, Geraldine Campbell, Tina Oscar, Jackie Lloyd, and June Hall.
She is predeceased by her first husband Harrell Robbins; parents Edward Groover and Beulah Beasley; step-son Bruce Hall (June); and brother Marvin Groover.
Funeral services will be held Friday August 10, 2012, at 11 am at Walnut Hill Baptist Church, 5741 Arthur Brown Road, Walnut Hill, FL 32568. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Committal Service will follow at Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola.

Crediton Eugene Rigby, 65, passed away on July 29, 2012.
He was born in Pensacola on November 28, 1946, to Joe Rigby and Mary Louise Rigby Ward. He graduated from Century High School. He was employed with Monsanto Corporation for 35 years. He was retired from the Alabama Army National Guard. He was a member of the Cantonment Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Rigby and Mary Louise (Jack) Rigby Ward; two sisters, Thelma Diane Rigby Brake; and Eleanor Marie Ward; and one brother Troy E. Ward.
He is survived by his wife Connie Charlene Rigby and three children, Cynthia Jean (Nathan) Daniel, Anthony Eugene (Tracy) Rigby, and Gena Renee Rigby; one grandson
Dalton Ray Daniel; brothers, Joe (Debra) Rigby; Bill (Frances) Ward; Ronnie Ward; and two sisters, Gwendolyn (Leonard) Cook; and Voncille (Joe) Silcox.
Funeral Services will be Friday, August 3, 2012 at Faith Chapel North with Jeffery Orr, minister and Jimmy Blackmon, minister of the Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park, Pensacola.
The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Village for their loving care of our husband, father, and brother for the past 4½ years and would also like to thank Covenant Hospice for their kindness, care and love of our loved one. They were exceptional.
Ligey Lee “Bud” Lister

Mr. Ligey Lee “Bud” Lister, 76, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012, in Century.
Mr. Lister was a native of Barnett Crossroads, AL, and a resident of Robinsonville, AL, since 1964. Mr. Lister attended the Allen Smith Holiness Church. He was preceded in death his Wives, Rosie Lister and Virginia Lister.
Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Wiggins officiating.
Burial will follow at the Little Rock Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donis Bowman, Boogie Boutwell, Randy Bagwell, David Mosley, James Smith and Frank Godwin.

Eddie Wayne Gregson

Mr. Eddie Wayne Gregson, 46, of Poarch passed away Friday, August 3, 2012. Eddie was a loving father, brother, uncle and friend. He lived for his sons Steven and Corey and his granddaughters “Papa’s babies” Ella and Jaelyn. He was excited for the arrival of his first grandson, Tucker. He was a proud member of the Poarch Creek Indians. Coaching baseball was his passion; he coached for nearly 30 years at N.E.P. and Poarch. Eddie was avid Alabama fan. Please dress casual or wear your favorite sports attire in honor of him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Gregson; his mother, Daisy Bell Rolin; his aunt, Letha McGhee and granny, Gertrude Rolin.
Survivors include his two sons, Steven (Claire) Gregson and Corey Gregson; two brothers, Charles (Cheryl) Gregson and Tim (Heather) Gregson; four sisters, Sherry Ann Phillips, Robin Gregson (Larry), Cecilia Nobles and Melanie Gregson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Friendly Holiness Church with Rev. Steve Ward and Rev. Gill Caudle officiating. Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and also from 8 a.m. until funeral time at Friendly Holiness Church.

Myron “Tom” McCall

Myron “Tom” McCall was born Friday, September 18, 1942, and passed away Friday, July 13, 2012.
Tom was a gentle, caring, refined man with great dignity, character, and a delightfully understated sense of humor. A voracious reader, Tom devoured books on every conceivable topic. He loved to travel and counted the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica as his favorite destinations. He was blessed with a brilliant mind and a quick wit, but those touched by his life remember above all his incredible kindness and patience. He was a loving father to daughters Laura (Evanston IL), Sarah (Pueblo, CO), and son Michael (Washington, DC).
Tom was invited to join Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Florida, where he met his wife of 45 years, Barbara. He went on to receive a PhD from the University of North Carolina in physical-organic chemistry. A two year post-doctoral post at Cal Tech led to a position at the Martin Marietta Research Laboratories in Baltimore, MD. His career continued as Vice President of Research at Sodyeco in Charlotte, NC, followed by Senior Executive Vice President at Master Builders in Cleveland, OH. His career culminated as President/co-owner of Tamms Industries in Kirkland, IL, from which he retired in 2006.
Tom was born on September 18, 1942, in Century, FL to Myron and Nathia McCall. He died at the age of 69 on July 13, 2012 after a two year battle with multiple myeloma.
He was preceded in death by his father. Besides his mother, wife and children, he leaves behind two brothers, Sid (Brenda) and John (Michelle); three nephews, Bryan (Shellie), Matt (Katie) and John (Vanessa); three nieces, Jessica (Jordan), Molly, and Andrea; five grandnieces, and two grandnephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the non-profit organization, Center for Independent Futures, 743 Main Street, Evanston, IL 60201.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 8th at the Boca Raton Mausoleum. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 11th at the First Methodist Church in Jay, Florida.
Kenneth Roy Thomas

Mr. Kenneth Roy Thomas, age 61 of Jay, passed away Friday afternoon after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a native and former resident of Brewton and moved to Jay 27 years ago. Mr. Thomas was a member of Golden Memorial Holiness Church, a 1969 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and was employed as a oil field supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Foster Thomas of Jay; daughter Nanci (Marty) Kent of Huxford; son Jeremy Alford Thomas of Daphne; mother Annie Laura Thomas of Brewton; brother Mike (Gina) Thomas of Brewton; grandchildren Cotten Kent and Cody Kent.
He was predeceased by his father Claude Thomas; father-in-law and mother-in-law Charlie and Ina Foster; a brother Ed Mack Thomas; and sister JoAnn Steele.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 6, 2012, from 6-9 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.
Funeral services are scheduled Tuesday afternoon, August 7, 2012, at 2:00 at Blackwater Baptist Church in Munson with Rev. Andy Boutwell, Rev. Alton Nixon, and Rev. Bill Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Foster Cemetery in Munson.

Mrs. Gloria Mae Paonessa Campbell, of McDavid, born April 17, 1924, in Los Angeles, California, died August 1, 2012.
Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Paonessa and Ora Mae Field; her sister, Marilyn Stolte and her brother, Raymond Paonessa.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Richard Hue Campbell; her son, Richard Campbell, II of Chula Vista, CA; her daughters, Carolyn Webster Waggoner of Pensacola and Gloria Vanessa Ramsey of Lakeside, CA; grandchildren, Jamie Leech-Ryal, Christopher Wing, Ashlynn Webster, Nathan Ramsey, Andrew Ramsey, Ocean Ramsey, Joshua Ramsey, Genevieve Ramsey, Elias Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Hunter Leech –Ryal and Lexis Ramsey.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church on Bogia Road in McDavid.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the CAB building to celebrate her life.

Herman John Hassebrock, 85, of Bratt, was born to John and Annie Hassebrock on November 20, 1926, in Molino and passed away on Thursday, August 02, 2012.
He was a chemical operator at Monsanto for 31 years and the owner of Hassebrock’s Nursery in Bratt. He was a deacon emeritus and faithful member of Pine Barren Baptist church in Davisville.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Annette Darby Hassebrock of Bratt; daughters, JoAnne Hassebrock Webb (Phillip) of Daphne; Donna Hassebrock Burkett (the late Gary Burkett) of Spanish Fort and Rhonda Hassebrock Gehman (Joe) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Zach Webb (Brook), Daphne; Kayla Gehman, Tuscaloosa; Ben Webb, Auburn and Abbey Gehman, Birmingham; his siblings, Eleanor Hassebrock Conover, Connie Hassebrock Gooden, Anne Hassebrock Jernigan, Johnny Hassebrock, Harry Hassebrock, all of Pensacola and Edwin Hassebrock of El Cajun, CA.

Mr. James O’Neal Black, 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in Bratt.
Mr. Black was a native of Brewton and a resident of Bratt for the past 21 years. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, Vietnam and was retired from Fountain Correctional Facility. He attended Atmore Baptist Temple.
He is preceded in death by five brothers, Otto Black, H.H. Black, Carl Black, Wilmer Black and Donnie Black.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Faye Black of Bratt; one son, Jamie (Michele) Black of Atmore; two daughters, Vicki Hunt of Atmore and Kristi Crawford of Navarre; two sisters, Doris Wilson of Spanish Fort and Deloris Vance of Wickliffe, KY; four granchildren, Blake McCall, Ashlynn McCall, Chelsea Black and Chirstian Black and numerous nieces and nephews.
