Abe Dearl “Ducky” Dixon

Abe Dearl “Ducky” Dixon, age 73, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. He was a lifelong resident of Jay. He retired from Solutia in 1994 after 36 ½ years. Dearl was a member of the Riveria Band and he enjoyed singing and performing in local restaurants. He was a huge Florida Gator Fan. He loved to camp and fish with our camping friends and teaching his three grandsons how to deer hunt. He was a member of the Community Church of Christ. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, Abe Dixon; mother, Ruby Barnes Dixon; sisters, Hazel Henry, Willdean Tompkins, Lois Ward and brother, Clayton Dixon.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 ½ years, Myrtice Manning Dixon; sons, Dearl Allen (Vicki) Dixon of Pace and Jon Derek “Derry” (Debbie) Dixon of Zebulon, GA; granddaughters, Nikki (Eddie) Powell of Milton, Alli (Matt) Audiffred of Pensacola, Catherine (Matt) Lamphire of North Carolina; grandsons, Arron and Adam Dixon of Zebulon, GA, and Cody Dixon of Pace; great-grandchildren, Abby, Nathan Powell, and Calli Audiffred; sister, Trudy (Don) Coleman and special friends, Sahara Shuburte, Isobell Mosley, Melba Jerkins, and Helen Sanders.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, from 6-9 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home with Pastor Diane Ward and Pastor Don Coleman officiating services.
Active pallbearers are Kenny McGhee, Ronnie Parker, Dickie Haul, Jimmy Ward, Bobby Guy, and Kenny Gray.

Curlene Byrd

Curlene Byrd, age 76, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Curlene was a member of Pine Forest Estates Baptist Church.
Curlene is survived by her husband, Addis Byrd; son, Greg (Jenny); son, Jeff; son, Tim (Jill); daughter, Brenda (Jim); son, Brent (Cathy); sister, Carolyn (Jim); 12 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North Cantonment.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012, at Faith Chapel North with Pastor Mike Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Gonzalez United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Newton C. McNeil (Mac)

Newton C. McNeil (Mac), 88, of Pensacola passed away on August 21, 2012.
Mac was born and raised in Excel, AL. He attended high school in Uriah, A:. and then entered the military in December 1942 as a pharmacist mate. Mac was assigned to Easy Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division during the assault on Peleliu Island. He was honored with the Purple Heart and the Navy and Marine Corps medal for his heroism. After being discharged Mac moved to Pensacola where he began his career with Monsanto as a mechanic for 30 years. On weekends he served his community by donating thousands of hours as a reserve officer with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department over a period of 20 years. After his retirement with Monsanto he was hired by the Sheriff’s department and retired in 2002. He was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church. Mac enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Mac was preceded in death by his son, Monroe. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Ruth, his sons and their wives, Tim and Kim McNeil, Tony and Sherry McNeil, two step daughters and their husbands Pam and Robert (Kit) Callahan, and Cheryl and Kevin Buckmaster. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mac is also survived by special family member Charlotte Armstrong and numerous others that were considered family as well as great friends.
Visitation will be Thursday August 23, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. and the service will be Friday August 24, 2012, at 10 a.m.. Visitation and the service will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rodney Smith officiating.

Mary Nell “Missie” Roach Peacock

Mary Nell “Missie” Roach Peacock, age 67 of Byrneville, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012, in Century. She was born November 29, 1944, in Bratt to the late Perry and Laura Grimes Roach. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hollis L. Peacock, and is survived by her son Jeff Peacock and daughter-in-law Jodi Peacock of Atmore.
Missie died as she lived, with strength and quiet dignity. She was a dedicated wife and mother that spent her entire life seeing to the needs of others. Heaven is a lot brighter today
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at 10 a.m. from the Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with graveside services following at Beulah Assembly of God Church Cemetery in Byrneville with Pastor Jim Thorpe officiating.

Mr. Buford Wooten, 87, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, in Atmore.
Mr. Wooten was a native of Bratt and a resident of Atmore for most of his life. Mr. Wooten was an avid farmer of 65 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lilla Wooten.
Survivors include his wife, Cassie Wooten of Atmore; 3 sons, Buford Larry (Connie) Wooten of Brewton, Joe Frank (Kay) Wooten of Bratt and David (Janice) Coleman of Bratt; five daughters, Brenda (Ron) Sessions of Stockon, Connie (Billy) Dorriety of Stockon, Sylvia (Joe) Gipson of Walnut Hill, Angelia (Jimmy) Boatwright of Atmore and Lisa Chafin of Atmore; one brother, Clark P. (Wiloneese) Wooten of Pleasant Grove, AL; two sisters, Adeline Rhinehart of Canoe and Barbara Jean (Joe) Pennington of Bratt; 23 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

David S. Arnette

David S. Arnette, 71, after a long and courageous struggle with cancer, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 14, 2012.
He is predeceased by his parents John Nathaniel Arnette and Ruby May Barlow and four siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Marilyn Philen Arnette; three daughters: Cherie Monique Arnette, Pensacola, Carren (Tommy) Quinn, Mobile, and Jeanne (Chris) Williams, Pensacola; two grandsons Parker and Ryan Quinn; one brother Van Drew (Mae) Arnette, numerous nieces and nephews; faithful friends and Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church family.
His reserved demeanor belied a multi-faceted life lived to the fullest. He was a true Renaissance man who loved history, studied the natural sciences, and appreciated classical literature, poetry and the arts. He pursued various interests including restoring antique furniture and cars, serving on the Board of Directors for the Hawaiian Malacological Society, coauthoring the naming of a species of Cyprea, and meticulously researching genealogy proving direct lineage to American Patriots and becoming a lifetime member of the Jamestowne Society. Each of his daughters inherited parts of his passions which are reflected in their chosen careers.
He had a strong moral compass instilling a sense of honor and duty in his family and those he touched. His unwavering sense of patriotism was exhibited in service to his country for 22 years in the United States Air Force. A highly decorated Vietnam veteran, he traveled the world but had strong roots in his home and community. Following his retirement, he served for 20 years at the McDavid Post Office where his quiet acts of kindness made a difference in his community. He will be missed by all.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 18, 2012, from 12-2 pm with services following at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, 1000 Hwy 29 Cantonment.

Bobby Gerald Goodwin

Bobby Gerald Goodwin, 61, passed away suddenly in a local hospital on Monday, August 13, 2012. Bobby was born on March 7, 1951, in Pensacola, to A.J. “Dude” and Eunice Goodwin.
Bobby was predeceased by his father, A. J. “Dude” Goodwin and his brother, Donald Ray Goodwin.
He is survived by his mother, Eunice Goodwin; two sisters, Faye (Michael) Dees and Brenda (Terry) Bagwell; three brothers, Ronald (Collie) Goodwin, Larry (Joyce) Goodwin, and Edward (Sally) Goodwin. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews, six great-great nieces and nephews and a very special friend, Kenny Boone.
Bobby graduated from Tate High School in 1969. He worked in the pulp wood business driving a truck until an accident in 1972 which resulted in his quadriplegia. Bobby was lovingly cared for by his mother and family until his death. He was an avid horse lover, riding in many horse races and horse shows until his accident. Bobby loved the outdoors, family cookouts, and his faithful blue heeler dog, Barney.
Bobby will be missed by many in the Farm Hill community in Cantonment who often saw him traveling on the roads in his electric wheel chair visiting his neighbors and many friends. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Interim Health care and Nurse Finders Health Care for their services in caring for Bobby.
Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment
Brother Jeff McKee, pastor of the Victory Assembly of God Church in Molino, will conduct the services.

We miss you so much but your legacy of strength, love, devotion and faith will live on in us forever. Our hearts are joyful that you are united with your daughter in heaven. Always a woman of strength and devotion, she loved her family and friends with her whole heart and soul.
Eloise was born on December 12, 1935, in Westville, FL to Walter & Ettie Mae Jackson. She later made Cantonment her home. She was employed as a cashier with Winn Dixie for many years.
She is survived by two sons, David Sasnett (Tammy) of Eastpoint, FL and Danny Sasnett (Vicki) of Springville, AL; one daughter, Pamela Toms (Lewis) of Crestview; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Billy Jackson (Wanda); one sister, Carolyn Hood (Russell) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2012, at Faith Chapel North Funeral Home with Rev. David Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the First Pentecostal Cemetery in Molino.
The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel North from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday.

Max Ray Gomillion was born December 25, 1927, in Jay, and died August 14, 2012 at his home in Jay.
He was predeceased by parents Hicks Cook Gomillion and Elva Gomillion; wife Carolyn Phillips Gomillion; brothers Claude, Earl, Vivian, Royce, Frank, and Wayne Gomillion; sisters Cecil Pugh, Bonnie Wild, Ruth Sheffield, Lila Grey Rabren, Eulene Terry, and his twin baby sister Sadie Faye.
Max was survived by son Tony (Janie) Gomillion of Jay; granddaughters Summer (Jeremy) Walker of Birmingham, and Kayla Gomillion of Auburn; sister Elva Gomillion of Eastman, GA; brothers-in-law Curtis, William, Joe, and Rodney Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a loving and humble man devoted and concerned about his family and friends above himself. His radiant smile and positive attitude through a long illness was an inspiration to all who came in contact with him. Max was a graduate of Jay High School, an Air Force veteran, a retiree of Monsanto, and a member of Mt. Carmel UMC. He had a special love for football, cornbread, his granddaughters, and Lily.
Visitation will be Friday, August 17, 10 a.m. at Mt. Carmel U.M.C. in Jay. Funeral will follow at 11:00 with Rev. Lennie Howard officiating and burial will be later at Cora Baptist Church.
