Eugenia Lawley Edwards

Mrs. Eugenia Lawley Edwards, 86, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2012, in Century.

Mrs. Edwards was a native of Jemison, AL and resided in Atmore for the past 60 years. Mrs. Edwards attended the First Baptist Church for 55 years. She was OES- Past Grand Matron, Clerk at Sears Store of Atmore and Brewton for 20 years and Vanity Fair. Her husbands, H.H. Lawley and Chester Edwards, and son, Herbert Lawley, precede her in death.

Survivors include one son, Mike Lawley of Lillian; one daughter, Dianne (Tom) Locke of Atmore; daughter-in-law, Sharlene Treherne of Fairhope; three grandchildren, Shawn (James) Sumerall, Jessica (Stephen) Tucker and Tim (Lisa) Lawley; one great-grandchild, Noah Tucker; and beloved friend and caretaker, Bonnie Neighbors.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 28, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be James Micocci, Ben Lawson, Tom Locke, Steven Tucker, Patrick Treherne and Timothy Lawley.

Iona McCurdy Busbee

November 27, 2012

Iona McCurdy Busbee, age 82, of Jay, went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 26, 2012.

She enjoyed cross-stitching and her church work. She loved her family and friends and was a member of Gospel Temple in Century. Iona was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all that knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, P.L. Busbee; grandson, Johnny Busbee; one brother and five sisters.

She is survived by her son, Frank (Margie) Busbee of Flomaton; grandson, Ken (Leslie) Busbee of Clarksville, TN; five great-grandsons; sister, Doris Boutwell and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Brother James Gay officiating services.

Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Marion Williams, Randy Williams, Bobby Williams, Mitch McCall, Aaron Smith and Butch Pace.

Honorary pallbearers are the men of Gospel Temple Church in Century.

Bobby Gindl

November 24, 2012

Bobby Gindl was born August 19, 1953, and passed away on November 23, 2012.

Bobbywas born and raised in Barrineau Park. He was a 1971 Tate High School graduate and 1976 Auburn University graduate. He taught in Escambia County for over 30 years and was teaching at Central High School in Allenton. He was the leader of the Barrineau Park 4-H Club which is the oldest continuous Club in the state. Bobby taught AG at Escambia West Gate and continued on at Central. He loved the Amway Business and the principals it taught. He also loved his tractor and taught his daughters how to hunt and fish and take care of themselves. He traveled the world with his daughters and the Tate band, all the way from Orlando to Ireland and back.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Margie Gindl.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Tena Gindl; daughters, Carrie Gindl, Beth Gindl Cooper and Kellie Gindl Fisher; sons-in-law, Chad Cooper and Jake Fisher; grandchildren, Zac Cooper and Malarie Cooper; father, F.R. Gindl Sr.; sisters, Linda Veren and Amy Dennis; niece, Ellie Dennis; nephews, Eric Veren, Daniel Veren, Brad Welch and Braxton Welch, T.J. Mann and Quintin Mann.

The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 10 a.m., at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery om0 Barrineau Park.

Mary G. Powell Mooney

Mary G. Powell Mooney, 84 of Atmore, passed away November 20, 2012, in Mobile.

She was born November 28, 1927, in Gadsden. She was a member of Presley Street Baptist Church and was a retired fabric examiner from Vanity Fair. She is preceded in death by her parents; Elisha Edward and Laura Wright Gay; husbands, Johnny P. Powell and Elmer R. Mooney, Sr.; son; Johnny Wayne Powell; son-in-law, Edward “Shorty” Tyree; one great granddaughter, Anna-Grace Faith Stanley and her brothers Willie Edward Gay and James Edward Gay.

She is survived by her son, Billy Edward Powell (Brenda) of Atmore; daughters; Mary Alice Turner of Flowery Branch, GA; Patricia Ann (Bobby) Freeman; Linda Tyree; Glenda (Damon) Bell all of Atmore, and Rita Faye Parker of Bratt and Aunt Hattie Snyder of Molino.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 23, 2012, at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active allbearers will be Tim Turner, Justin Bell, Kevin Bell, Robbie Stanley, Keith Bell, John Donaldson, Trent Freeman and Phillip Myrick. Honorary pallbearers will be her first born grandson; Steve Freeman and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Edward Raymond Carden

Mr. Edward Raymond Carden, age 73, of Keego Road in Brewton, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012.

Mr. Carden was a native and life long resident of Escambia Conty, AL. He was a 1957 graduate of Flomaton High School, and worked for 37 years with the Monsanto Corporation as a Chemical Operator. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Carden was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Rutha Mae Carden; and his wife, Martha Ann Carden.

He is survived by one son, Rusty (Frances) Carden of Brewton; two daughters, Terri (Jim Fulford) Waller of Atmore, Robin (Cory) Johnson of Brewton; one brother, Ronnie (Audrey) Carden of Brewton; six grandchildren, Mandy Bondurant, Tiffany Emmons, Chad Coburn, Christopher Coburn, Josh Carden, and Brooke Carden; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Coburn and Landon Bondurant; and his beloved pet, Bear.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 23, 2012, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Richburg officiating. Interment will follow in Catawba Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Friday from 12 Noon until service time at 2 p.m. Pallbearers: Josh Carden, Chad Coburn, Christopher Coburn, Jason Bondurant, David Carden, and Nick Bloodsworth.

Donald “Don” Thornton

November 19, 2012

Coach Donald “Don” Thornton, age 65 of Vernon, AL, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012, in Enterprise. Mr. Thornton was born March 27, 1947, in Amory, MS, to the late Earl Brown and Aleen Thornton. He was a 1965 graduate of Sulligent High School and a 1969 graduate of Livingston University. He coached and taught at Kennedy High School, Carrollton High School, and Millry High School. For the next 18 years, he moved into the insurance business, but his passion for coaching continued on, leading him back to the field in 1992 at T.W. Martin High School. He then moved to Flomaton High School in 1994 and taught and coached there until his retirement in 2007 when he moved back to Vernon. After retirement, he served as a Vernon City Councilman, a member of the Oak Hill Country Club board, and a volunteer football coach for the Lamar County High School Bulldogs from 2008 to present. He was a member of Vernon First United Methodist Church.

Coach Thornton is survived by his wife, Jeanne Thornton of Vernon; three sons, Joey Thornton of Enterprise, Clint (Carrie) Thornton of Tallahassee, snd David (Tonya) Thornton of Ellisville, MS; daughter, Gina (Myles) Hudson of Hattiesburg, MS; eleven grandchildren, Taylor, Karoline, Whitney, Grant, Andrew, Carson, Avery, Alex, Lizzie, Baylinn, and Layson; three aunts, Alice Burns, Janie Waldon, and Bea McClendon; and a host of cousins.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 20, 2012,  at 11 in the Vernon City Complex Auditorium with Eddie Rogers and Patrick Gunn officiating. Graveside services will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Joey Thornton, Clint Thornton, David Thornton, Myles Hudson, Trent Collins, Frankie Rogers, Ken Prager, and Woodie Knight.

Honorary pallbearers will be Coach Thornton’s football players, past and present.

Paul Garfield Mauldin

Mr. Paul Garfield Mauldin, 82, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, in Pensacola.

Mr. Mauldin was a native of Albermarle, NC and resident of Bratt since 1971. Mr. Mauldin was retired from the U.S. Navy, worked at the Naval Air Station for 17 years, was a Committee Man for the Republican Party, band boosters at Ernest Ward and active in community affairs. He attended the Bratt First Baptist Church.

His wife, Margaret Blanton Mauldin, precedes him in death.

Survivors include his three sons, James Thomas (Jennie) Mauldin of Pensacola; William Allen (Peggy) Mauldin of Atmore, and Gary Michael Mauldin of Pensacola; one daughter, Paula Mauldin (James) Watson of Pensacola; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Hall officiating.

Burial will follow at the Barrancas National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 6 to 9 P.M. at the Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Walter Eugene Gunn

Mr. Walter Eugene Gunn, 84, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2012 in Walnut Hill.

Mr. Gunn was a native of Ponce de Leon, FL and a resident of Walnut Hill since 1959. Mr. Gunn was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired from Monsanto after 39 years of service. He attended the Bethel Temple Holiness Church.

He is preceded in death by his son, Carl Eugene Gunn; parents, Walton and Emma Gunn; one brother, Howard Gunn; and two sisters, Perry Lee Strength and Emma Lee Wilson.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Earnestine Brown Gunn of Walnut Hill; one son, William Mark Gunn of Walnut Hill; one daughter, Cindy Turner of Walnut Hill; daughter-in-law, Tracey Gunn of Pensacola; four brothers, Earl Gunn of Huxford, Ben Gunn of Flomaton, Cecil Gunn of Mobile, and James Gunn of Perdido; five grandchildren, Lcpl Garrett Turner, Seth Turner, Travis Gunn, Crystal Gunn and Amber Davis; two great-grandchildren, John William Justice and Cableaux Gunn.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Peebles, Rev. Lamar Allen, Rev. John Morrow, Rev. John Fillingim and Rev. John Coleman officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 18, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

John Colin Lewis

November 17, 2012

John Colin Lewis, 77, of Cantonment, died Thursday, November 15, 2012.

John was born March 06, 1935, in Pensacola to Colin C. Lewis and Edith Wilkinson Lewis. He graduated from Pensacola High School in 1953 and served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1956 until 1958. After retiring from Liberty Lanes, he became active in bowling with the Senior Saints at DeLuna Lanes and was a member of the U. S. Bowling Congress. John became interested in collecting insulators in his retirement years and joined the National Insulator Association and Dixie Jewels Insulator Club. He was a ham radio operator (KD4GQD) and an avid NASCAR fan, who loved to fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Young.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Shirley Lewis; stepdaughter, Vicki Breeland; granddaughter, Amanda Grant; numerous nephews and nieces; Alexis his cat and Puppy his dog.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Dr. Jerry Passmore officiating.

Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012.

Iris Jane Peters

November 17, 2012

Iris Jane Peters, 39, of Cantonment passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012, at her home after a two year battle with brain cancer. She was born in Frankfurt, Germany and graduated from Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, NC and served honorably as Corpsman in the United States Navy.

Iris was welcomed home by our daughter Emma. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Wesley Peters, three sons Andrew, 10, Joshua, 8, and Noah, 5; father, Bernie Autenrieth; mother, Hannelore Gano(Rich); brother, Fritz Autenrieth (Andrea); niece, Carley Peters; nephews, Zachary and Nathaniel Autenrieth and Braxton Peters.

Iris was a dedicated wife and stay at home mom who loved the Lord and her family and friends. Throughout her illness she kept her sense of humor and was an inspiration to all.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Funeral services will be at 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Faith Chapel North with Pastor Phillip Frensley officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetary with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers she requested that donations be made to Cure Search or the National Brain Cancer Society.
