Mrs. Merlene Emmons Forbes, 76, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama.
Mrs. Forbes was a native of Century, FL, and has resided in Atmore, AL, for the past 31 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Forbes and parents, L.D. and Bernice Emmons.
She is survived by her four sons, Richard (Pam) Moye of Bay Minette, AL, Randel (Karen) Moye of South Carolina, Robert (Janice) Moye of Bratt, FL and Greg (Sandy) Forbes of Atmore, AL; one daughter, Regina (James) Hare of Walnut Hill, FL; two sisters, Annette Jones of Atmore, AL and Bettie Odom of Atmore, AL; 15 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Greg Forbes officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 19, 2017, from noon until service time at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Robert Amerson

Mr. Robert “RJ” Amerson, Sr., 91, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in Bratt, Florida.
Mr. Amerson was a native and lifelong resident of Bratt, FL. He was a member of the Bratt First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Peter Amerson and Lottie Wiggins Amerson; wife, Margaret Himerwright Amerson; two sons, Danny Amerson and Eddie Amerson; one daughter, Sandra Amerson Wilson; step-son, Jimmy Hibbits; one sister, Vera Louise Amerson Hardy; three brothers, Oliver Peter (Pete) Amerson, Wallace Jerald Amerson and Dewey Eugene Amerson; one grandson, Lance Dawe and one great-grandchild, Macey Amerson.
He is survived by one son, RJ (Bobby) and Judy Amerson, Jr. of Bratt, FL; two brothers, Leo Edward Amerson of Canoe, AL and James and Betty Amerson of Bratt, FL; 11 grandchildren; 13-great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Bratt First Baptist Church with Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.
Burial was at the Godwin Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rick Amerson, Pete Amerson, Jr., Kevin Amerson, Jeff Amerson, Drew Amerson and Pete Amerson, III.
Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Adult Sunday School Class (Bratt First Baptist Church), Jim Biggs, Joseph Gulley, Leo Odom and Hilton Hall.

John Hoffman

Mr. John “Ronny” Hoffman, 75, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
Mr. Hoffman was a native of Montgomery, AL and had resided in Atmore, AL for the past 45 years. He was a member and past treasurer at the Atmore Church of Christ. He taught his first year at Repton, Flomaton for five years, Ernest Ward, Bratt and Northview for a total of 33 years. He coached at Flomaton, Repton and Ernest Ward. He was a graduate of Troy State and was an avid fisherman. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah Hoffman; and one sister, Joan Hoffman Fleshman.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Hoffman of Atmore, AL; one son, Ron (Wendy) Hoffman of Spanish Fort, AL; three daughters, Ronda Hoffman of Daphne, AL, Michelle (Ted) Cox of Winfield, AL and Mel (Marc) Bass of Auburn, AL; three brothers, Larry Hoffman of Pike Road, AL, Frances Hoffman of Highland Home, AL and Allan Hoffman of Highland Home, AL; one sister, Judy Best of Honoraville, AL; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 11, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Minister Bobby Boatwright officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Hoffman, John Hoffman, Aubrey Cox, Joseph Cox, Christian Bass, John Stephen Bass and Colton Whitehead.

Thomas Charles Murphy

Thomas Charles Murphy, 69, of Cantonment, passed away at home on August 5, 2017, after a six year battle with cancer. Tommy was born on November 8, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Thomas Foy and Anne Murphy. He was proud to serve his country in the Marines for two tours in Vietnam. Tommy was a loving husband and father who’s favorite past time was hunting with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Foy Murphy and father-in-law, Charles Cartwright.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 35 years, Suzi Murphy; children, Lenna Philpot, Ryan Murphy, Charles (Heather) Murphy, Elizabeth (Andrew) Kilgore, and Dawn Murphy; grandchildren, Victoria, Mariah, Rebecca, Shanna, Caleb, Colton, Landon and Abygail; great-grandson, Blake; Mother, Anne Murphy; Siblings, Joe (Janet), Joy (Roger) Henson, Jack, Karl (Cathy), Phillip (Pat), Tonya (Boyd) Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and many more family members and friends.
A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2017, with a memorial service to immediately follow at 2 p.m. at Pine Forest Assembly of God Church, 3125 Pine Forest Road, Cantonment, FL 32533. Pastor Gene Hudson will be officiating.

Mrs. Dovie Woods Stanley, 84, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama.
Mrs. Stanley was a native of Semirah Springs, AL and had resided in Atmore, AL most of her life. She was a member of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Louiza Woods and husband of 64 years Cecil Stanley.
She is survived by her three sons, Cecil Gary (Kaye Derrington) Stanley of Tampa, FL, Greg (Wanda) Stanley of Stapleton, AL and Richard K. (Phyllis) Stanley of Brewton, AL; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 13, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Heard and Bro. Dave Taylor officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Michael Eugene Giri

Michael Eugene Giri, 69, died August 5, 2017, at a local hospital after an extended illness.
He was born September 27, 1947, in Pensacola to David and Ola Rolen Geri. Mike served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a reputable house painter in the local area for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 37 years, Betty Sue Giddiens; and brother Freddie Geri.
Survivors include his wife Barbara; daughter, Michelle McElwee, of Iowa; sons, Mike and Jess; sister, Janice Smith, all of Pensacola; and nine beloved grandchildren, Nikki Hughes; Joshua McElwee; Thomas Geri; Monaca Cartwright; Kaya, Bella, and Landon Giddeon; David and Emma Forehand.
Funeral services were held August 8, 2017, at the Trahan Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Carl Shiver and Jim Diamond officiating.
Burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
Susan Colbert Davis

Mrs. Susan Colbert Davis, 54, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017, in Pensacola, Florida.
Mrs. Davis was a native of Atmore, AL and had resided in Bay Minette, AL the past 15 years. She was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Rabun New Testament Church. She is preceded in death by her mother, Doris Colbert and two sisters, Mary Davis and Barbara Hadley.
She is survived by her husband, Junior Davis of Bay Minette, AL; three step-daughters, Angela Davis, Rhonda Davis and Gail Davis all of Bay Minette, AL; two nieces, Kelly Milstid of Bay Minette, AL and Cotrena (Lucas) Andrews of Poarch, AL; one nephew, Curly (April) Davis of Jay, FL; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 7, 2017, at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Bubba Rolin officiating.
Burial was at the Poplar Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnathon Davis, Justin Davis, Chris Branum, Ethan Branum, Shorty Bryars and Kenneth Jackson.

Charles Winston Robbins

Charles Winston Robbins, 87, better known as Wink to all of his friends and family and Winkypa to his grandkids and great-grandkids, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at his home in Cantonment under hospice care following a battle with prostate cancer.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Iva Fay (Wheeler) Robbins; his brother, Neil Robbins; his sons, Mark (Diane) Robbins and Phillip (Carol) Robbins; his daughters, Laura (Jim) Beck, Melinda (Greg) Stanford, and Lisa (Charles) Sullivan; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Mr. Robbins was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; five brothers; and one grandson.
He was born and raised in Conecuh County, Alabama, the son of Marvin and Ila (Williams) Robbins, he was a longtime resident of Cantonment. While serving in the Navy in San Francisco, CA, Wink met Fay Wheeler. After their wedding in Evergreen, AL on July 2, 1950, they returned to San Francisco. While in San Francisco four of their five children were born. In 1959 they moved to Cantonment where Mr. Robbins worked as a pressman with Gulf Cartons which was a part of the St. Regis Corporation. It was in Cantonment that their fifth child was born. Mr. Robbins served as a deacon at FBC Cantonment for many years and was a part of a group from First Baptist who started the Farm Hill Baptist Church. He has served at other churches in the area and is currently a member of the Plainview Baptist Church. Work took him to Tampa, Florida, Thomasville, Georgia and York, AL. They eventually returned to Cantonment where they have lived since retirement. He was an n avid golfer and longtime member of the George Snyder Golf Club in Cantonment.
Funeral services were held at Faith Chapel North on Friday, August 4, 2017. Reverend Bill Flannigan will be officiating.

Alvin “Frog” L. Lay, 61, of Cantonment, FL, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017. He was a service technician at Gulf Power Company. He love to fish and hunt.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton L. and Mary Charles Early Lay.
He is survived by his loving wife, Madonna Lay; daughter, Alisha Lay; son, Alex Lay; grandchildren, Savanna Woollen, Ross Woollen, William Lay, Gabe Lay, Samuel Lay and Bella Lay; sister, Theresa (Pike) Burgess Larkin of AL; and a brother, Teddy Lay (Ginger) of MS.
Memorials may be made to the Escambia Search and Rescue, 9530 Nims Lane, Pensacola, FL.

Micky Gywnn Rigby

Micky Gywnn Rigby, 70, died on June 15, 2017, in College Station, Texas. At the time of his death, Micky was a member of the faculty of Texas A&M University.
Micky grew up in the Oak Grove Community of North Escambia County, graduating from Ernest Ward High School in 1964. After earning his Bachelor and Masters Degrees, Micky returned to Escambia County to become a member of the faculty of Tate High School. Micky was a well-respected teacher at Tate High School until he retired in 2000. Micky earned his doctorate in 1985 at the University of Mississippi.
After retiring as a high school teacher at Tate High School, Micky moved on to teach at Collier High, in Naples, Florida; Baltimore City College, in Baltimore, Maryland; and Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Micky was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Mosoura Rigby, and his brother Donald Ellis. He is survived by his uncle Gene Hall of Atmore, AL, and numerous cousins and their families.
A gathering of friends to celebrate the life of Micky Rigby will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 12, at the Tate High School Cafeteria.
