Deputies Investigating Davisville Convenience Store Burglary

Two 12-packs of beer and a few sodas were reported missing after an early morning break-in at a Davisville convenience store.
Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an alarm at the Korner Kwik Stop BP gas station at 10481 Highway 97 at 3:05 a.m. Sunday. At least two suspects were recorded on the store’s surveillance video approaching the store.
Then, according to reports, they cut power to the store to disable the interior security cameras.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 433-STOP or the Escambia Sheriff’s Office at 436-9620.
Atmore Murder Update

The Atmore Police Department is continuing to investigate the beating death of a 51-year old man sometime over the weekend.
Michael Lee Daily was found dead in his apartment on Martin Luther King Drive in Atmore on Sunday afternoon; he had last been seen alive Friday night.
Charles Walker, Dailey’s neighbor from just a few doors down, said Daily was a very likable man, and he can’t understand why someone would want him dead.
Dailey’s sister, Glender Grissett, had become worried when she did not see or hear from Dailey in a few days. So she asked Walker to go inside his apartment to check on him.
“He was just lying there on the floor; there was a lot of blood,” he said. “I can’t know why somebody would do this. He was a very good friend.”
The Atmore Police Department has not released any information about the crime. They have not said if they have a motive, leads or a suspect in the case.

NWE Midgets Fall To Myrtle Grove

The Northwest Escambia Midgets fell short to Myrtle Grove Saturday 27-14.
Trailing 20-14 with three minutes to go, NWE drove to the Myrtle Grove 19 yard line. But with holding and dead ball personal foul calls, NWE was backed up to the 44 for third down and 25 to go. On fourth down, MG picked off a NWE pass, returning it to the 20.
Two plays later, Myrtle Grove punched it into the end zone. With a good kick, the score was at the 27-14 final.
Northwest Escambia will play Navarre Black this Saturday. The Mini-Mites will take the filed at 9:00; the Mites will play at 10:30; and the Midgets will start at noon.
Admission to Eagles games is free, and concessions are available.
Organizers encourage the community to come out and support the NWE Eagles.

Reader’s Tip Leads To Arrest Of Molino Robbery Suspect In Century

A tip from a NorthEscambia.com reader has led the arrest of one of the suspects from this morning’s robbery of the Tom Thumb in Molino.
Escambia County deputies were called to a reported suspicious person and a possible burglary on Alger Road in Century about 9:20 this morning. When they arrived, they found a Pontiac Firebird with no tag in the parking lot of the Gospel Light Temple on Alger Road in Century.
A black male in the vehicle apparently had a flat tire and had stolen several tires and tools from a nearby shed in order to try fix his flat.
The vehicle in Century matched the description given by the NorthEscambia.com reader in a post in our comments section on story about the robbery. When deputies searched the location provided by the reader on Sunshine Hill Road at Cedar Springs Road, they found the cash register from Monday morning’s robbery of the Tom Thumb, as well as parts of the vehicle where the suspects had apparently hit a stump.
The suspect in Century was been taken into custody. Money, cash register and vehicle parts were recovered at the Molino Sunshine Hill Road location.

Authorities Investigate Apparent Murder In Atmore

Atmore Police are investigating an apparent homicide that occurred sometime over the weekend. The incident occurred at an apartment on Martin Luther King Drive in Atmore.
Relatives told police that they found the victim dead inside the apartment, apparently beaten in the head, about 4 p.m. Sunday. Relatives identified the victim as Michael Lee Dailey, 51, of Atmore. He was last seen alive about 11 p.m. Friday. The apparent murder is still under investigation by the Atmore Police Department. Further information was not available.

Store Robbery In Molino

Two black males robbed a Molino convenience store this morning.
One of the suspects is now is custody. Click here to read an update.
The robbery happened about 6:10 a.m. at the Tom Thumb at the intersection of Highway 29 and and Highway 97. Witnesses told deputies that two black males entered the store wearing bandannas over their faces. One of the bandannas was described as having a camouflage design.
One of the black males, described as being “short”, about 5-foot 2-inches tall, grabbed the cash register. Both ran out of and behind the store, where it is believed they got into a vehicle and fled the scene either on Crabtree Church Road or northbound on Highway 97. A vehicle description was not known at that time.
The suspects did not display a weapon during the robbery. Deputies did not say how much money was taken in the robbery, but did say there was only a very small amount of cash in the register.

Missing Children’s Day: Search Continues In North Escambia Case

A girl that was last seen nine years ago in North Escambia is among those that will be remembered today on Florida Missing Children’s Day.
Danielle Arion Bell, 14, was last seen at a party on September 30, 2001, near Cantonment. The teenager is believed to be an endangered runaway, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Danielle has a scar on her right forearm and blue eyes. She had brown hair at the time of her disappearance. She is now 22 years old.
Danielle attended Tate High School where she was a member of the Aggies cheerleading squad. The popular teen enjoyed dancing and drawing.
She was seen at a party on Cedar Tree Lane in Cantonment. Witnesses told authorities that she left the party that night shortly after a man that was in his mid-twenties at the time. Escambia County deputies later questioned that man and searched his home, but he was never charged in connection with the case.
During the summer of 2007, Alfredo Gomez Sanchez, Jr. was charged with providing law enforcement with false information about his whereabouts at the time Bell disappeared. He was not implicated in her disappearance.

Each year, approximately 50,000 incidents of missing children are reported to Florida law enforcement agencies. While many children are located within hours or days, some children are recovered months or even years after being reported missing.
“We count on the public to be vigilant at all times,” said Special Agent Supervisor Lee Condon of FDLE’s Missing Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse. “If something doesn’t seem right in a child’s situation, it’s probably not. We count on tips from citizens to provide those small pieces of information which may not seem significant at the time, but could ultimately make the difference in saving a child’s life whether the child is 5 or 17. A missing child is always a child in danger no matter what their age.”

Turnovers in the first half and penalties in the second half served as the cause of offensive struggles for both teams. The Seahawks scored early in the second quarter to take a 7-0 advantage on an eight yard touchdown run. The Chiefs had two opportunities late in the second quarter to tie up the game, but fumbled the ball away on the Seahawk five yard line and started another drive at the Seahawk 14 as a result of an interception by junior Austin Arrington.
They scored on the next play, but were denied due to a holding penalty and the Chiefs wound up turning the ball over on downs right before the end of the half. Midway through the third quarter, the Seahawks put together an 11 play, 55 yard drive for another score to increase their lead to 14-0.
On the ensuing drive, the Chiefs drove 63 yards in 10 plays to get on the board, with a five yard touchdown run by senior Shakel Holmes on the first play of the fourth quarter. The extra point try by senior Brad Lowery was wide left, making the score 14-6 in favor of the Seahawks.
The Chiefs forced the Seahawks to punt after a time consuming drive and had one more shot to tie the game, but wound up turning the ball over on downs with two minutes left in the game. The Seahawks ran out the clock and finished with a 14-6 district win over the Chiefs.
The Chiefs finished the game with 146 yards of rushing offense, led by senior Jeremy Jackson with 73 yards on seven carries and junior Dustin Yuhasz with 47 yards on 14 carries. The Chiefs’ quarterbacks, senior Brad Lowery and sophomore Brandon Sheets, were a combined 0 for 6 passing, with Lowery throwing one interception.
The Chiefs gave up 206 yards to the Seahawks; 194 rushing and 12 passing. The defense was led by junior defensive lineman, Lonnie Gardner, with eight tackles and junior linebacker, Levi Gideons, with seven tackles. The Chiefs have an open week next Friday and will play again at Bozeman on September 25th.

Final Approval For New 22 Lot Subdivision Near Molino

Final plans have been approved for a new 22 lot single family private residential subdivision just off Highway 97 north of Molino.
Escambia County has given the final go-ahead to the plans by owner BCK Properties, LLC of Pensacola. The roads “Sunny Brook Court” and “Sunshine Ridge Court” will be located off Sunny Hill Road in Sunshine Hill Estates. The county says the roads are substantially complete. The roads and their drainage systems will remain private and will create no expense for the county.
The private subdivision will be constructed west of Highway 97 just south of Sunshine Hill Road. It will be about 1.5 miles west of Molino Park Elementary School.
