Jay Teen, 14, Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison For Trying Kill Neighbor In Fire
December 5, 2018
A Jay 14-year old has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for a setting a fire at his neighbor’s home in an attempt to kill the occupant.
Circuit Judge David Rimmer also sentenced Ethan Alexander Marsh-Hual to 10 years probation following the completion of his prison term. Marsh-Hual entered a plea to attempted first degree premeditated murder with a weapon, burglary of an occupied dwelling causing damage over $1,000, arson, and burglary of an unoccupied conveyance.
During the early morning hours of March 17, 2018, Marsh-Hual entered the garage of his neighbor’s residence near Jay and set a fire next to the interior wall of the residence while the occupants were inside asleep. After setting the fire, he piled multiple items on the fire, including a gas can and a propane tank. He then entered the attic intending to set a fire there as well, however, he was unable to start a fire due to the amount of smoke.
After hearing a noise near the door, he fled and returned home. One of the occupants of the residence discovered the fire about 3:30 a.m. He opened the garage door, observed the fire and emptied a fire extinguisher on it before putting out the fire with a garden hose. The Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire.
The teen told investigators that he had become friends with a juvenile neighbor and the two had gotten into a fight. The individual allegedly told others at school that he threw up on his mailbox and made fun of him. Marsh-Haul told investigators that he went bed at 10:30 p.m. and set his alarm for midnight. After his alarm went off, he said he went out of his window and lit a propane tank on fire inside the home. He told investigators that he had been planning it for several weeks.
Marsh-Hual was charged as an adult after being indicted by a grand jury.
State Attorney: Century Documents Reported Stolen Have Been Found
December 5, 2018

Documents and audio recordings reported stolen last week from the Town of Century have been found.
Assistant State Attorney Greg Marcille told NorthEscambia.com Tuesday that most of the items were located by Town Clerk Kim Godwin.
“No evidence of theft was found by the Sheriff’s Office, but the case is still open pending review by the State Attorney’s Office,” he said. “It appears they were simply misplaced.”
He declined to say exactly where the documents and recordings were found.
On November 27, Godwin reported that “sometime early in the month of September”, she noticed that a file missing that contained documents pertaining to a loan to Ann Brooks, but “she did not think anything about it at the time”, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office offense report. She said that on November 27, she discovered a memory card containing audio recordings of council meeting was missing, along with her written notes.
Godwin told deputies that during the day her office door is left open, and anyone that has access to that area of town hall could have entered the office and taken the items. She also stated that they were attempting to get a security camera for town hall, but there was currently no available video.
The memory card and paperwork were valued at $11.
Meanwhile, another State Attorney’s Office investigation has been ongoing since August.
“We are continuing to review the Sunshine Law matters,” Marcille said Tuesday.
Three council members reportedly attended at least some portion of a closed door meeting with CPA Robert Hudson, Town Clerk Kim Godwin and the town’s auditors. The meeting was not advertised as a public meeting, which would forbid more than one council member from taking part under Florida’s Sunshine Laws.
Sheriff Issues ‘Stranger Danger’ Warning After Stranger Tries To Give Rides To Kids
December 5, 2018
Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan is warning parents about “stranger danger” after someone allegedly tried to lure children into their vehicle.
Morgan said there are have been “vague” reports of someone trying to give children a ride.
“We’ve had a couple of students report that they have been contacted by either a white van or a dark van or a dark SUV in different parts of our county, specifically around Palafox, Pine Forest area, so it’s kind of all over,” Morgan said. “But it is enough so that we are concerned during this season and all of the time, that we go back to our children when they are going to school and front school, when they are at bus stop areas.”
The sheriff said if children are approached by anyone they do not know, they should run away, tell a responsible adult and dial 911.
“We certainly do not want our holiday season to be ruined by an abduction of a child,” Morgan said.

Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium, the nation’s 10th-largest on-campus stadium, with a capacity of 87,451, has served as home of the Auburn Tigers since 1939.
On football Saturdays in Auburn, Jordan-Hare Stadium becomes Alabama’s fifth-largest city. More than 75,000 season tickets have been sold to Auburn home games in each of the last 18 years.
The stadium is named for Ralph “Shug” Jordan, Auburn’s all-time winningest football coach, and Clifford Leroy Hare, a member of Auburn’s first football team, president of the old Southern Conference and longtime chairman of Auburn’s Faculty Athletic Committee.
Legendary coach Pat Dye has also had his name forever attached to Jordan-Hare Stadium, as the turf officially became known as Pat Dye Field at Jordan-Hare Stadium prior to the 2005 Iron Bowl.

Scott Will Delay Joining Senate By Five Days To Remain Governor
December 5, 2018
Gov. Rick Scott announced Tuesday that he will serve out his full second term under an arrangement that will lead to a five-day delay in the Republican joining the U.S. Senate next month.
The 116th Congress, which includes the U.S. House and Senate, will start on Jan. 3. But Scott, who was first elected as governor in 2010 and re-elected in 2014, is scheduled to remain as governor until Jan. 8, when Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis’ term begins.
Scott, who narrowly beat Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson last month, had the option of resigning early as governor, joining the U.S. Senate on Jan. 3 and elevating Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera to the office of governor.
It would not be an unprecedented circumstance. It happened in January 1987, when Gov. Bob Graham resigned early to join the U.S. Senate, making Lt. Gov. Wayne Mixson the state’s 39th governor for a three-day period before Gov. Bob Martinez took office.
But Scott has opted to remain in office for his full term, his aides said Tuesday.
“When Gov. Scott was elected governor of Florida, he promised to fight for Florida families every single day of his term. Gov. Scott will remain governor until Jan. 8,” John Tupps, the governor’s communications director, said in a statement.
Tupps said U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has agreed to hold the Senate swearing-in ceremony for Scott on the afternoon of Jan. 8, which will be the day that inauguration ceremonies will be held in Tallahassee and DeSantis will become Florida’s 46th governor.
Scott will transition to his role as the state’s junior senator, joining U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio in giving Florida two Republican senators in the nation’s capital for the first time since the Reconstruction era.
The issue of when Scott would leave office drew extra scrutiny this year when it remained unclear whether Scott or the incoming governor would appoint three new justices to the Florida Supreme Court in January.
But the issue became largely moot, when the state Supreme Court ruled that the appointment power rests “solely” with the new governor.
DeSantis, in consultation with Scott, is reviewing 11 judges and lawyers who have been advanced by a nominating commission to replace justices Barbara Pariente, R. Fred Lewis and Peggy Quince. The three justices are leaving the state’s highest court on Jan. 8 because they have reached a mandatory retirement age.
