Century Man Arrested For Flomaton Vehicle Theft; Vehicle Recovered In Century

A Century man has been arrested in connection with a gas station vehicle theft Thursday night in Flomaton.

Friday night, the Escambia County (FL) Sheriff’s Office arrested 25-year old Michael Alexander Dubose in Century. He is being held without bond in the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola awaiting extradition back to Alabama on a felony charge of theft of property first degree.

The vehicle was recovered behind a church at 8300 Alger Road in Century and returned to the owner.

“He was arrested in Florida and confessed to location and actions of his crime,” Flomaton Police Capt. Chance Thompson told NorthEscambia.com late Friday night.

Dubose is accused of the theft of a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe Thursday night from the Texaco gas station on Sidney Manning Boulevard at Highway 31 in Flomaton. Dubose allegedly was riding a bicycle just before he took the SUV. The bicycle was recovered by Flomaton Police.

A similar incident occurred in Century in late November when a bicyclist stole a vehicle from a residential neighborhood. [Read more ...] There’s been no word from authorities if the two incidents are related.

Gas Prices Fall Below $2 In Escambia County

The plunge at the pump continues this week, and now gas prices are poised to have their lowest start to the New Year since January 1, 2016.

In Escambia County, prices have now fallen below $2 per gallon at several stations, including $1.97 Friday in Cantonment. The current average price in Escambia County remained at $2.16.

Drivers are finding gas prices below $2 a gallon at about 7 percent of gas stations in Florida. Since mid-October, the state average has plummeted a total of 62 cents. Thursday’s average price of $2.18 per gallon is the lowest daily average price since July 2017.

Tate Graduate Continues Run On ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire’

Tate High School’s 2017 valedictorian and current University of West Florida student Samantha Brown appeared Friday night on “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” and will return to continue play Monday night.

Sam Brown turned to her mom Clarissa Brown as a lifeline for help about the total numbers of squares found on the standard Scrabble board. They correctly answered 225 to reach the $10,000 level.

“Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” airs weekdays on WEAR 3.

Flood Warning For The Escambia River

A flood warning is in effect until further notice for the Escambia River near Century.

Saturday afternoon, the river was at flood stage of 17 feet.. The river is forecast to continue to rise to 18.8 feet by Tuesday morning.

At 17 feet, there is considerable flooding of lowlands. At 19 feet, low lying pasture will flood, forcing the movement of cattle to higher ground.

North Escambia Area Traffic Crashes Under Investigation

The Florida Highway Patrol is investing two North Escambia area traffic crashes on Friday.

At least one person was injured in a crash about 3:15 p.m. on Highway 29 near the Canoe Creek bridge, just north of Roach Road. Further details have not been released by the Florida Highway Patrol.

No one was injured in a single vehicle rollover crash Friday night about 7:45 p.m. on County Road 97 near Piney Lane.

Both wrecks remain under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Additional information has not been made available.

Morning Storm Causes Minor Wind Damage In Cottage Hill

A Friday morning storm left behind some minor wind damage in Cottage Hill.

Several small trees were uprooted, skirting was blown off a mobile home, a privacy fence was downed and small items were tossed about. A cow was also out, walking down the roadway, possibly due to fence damage.

The area with damage included Highway 95A, Chipper and Casey Lane.

There were no injuries reported.

One Injured In Highway 29, Highway 97 Crash

December 28, 2018

One person was injured in crash Thursday night on Highway 29 at Highway 97. The wreck happened about 6:10 p.m. The adult male  was transported to an area hospital by Escambia County EMS. Highway 29 northbound was closed for about an hour by the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating and has not released further details. Firefighters Rescue Dog Stuck Under Storage Shed

Escambia County firefighters rescued a puppy stuck under a shed Wednesday night.

The puppy got a little carried away while chasing a critter under his owner’s shed, wedging himself tightly under two floor joists about three feet under the shed.

The owners tried their best to get him out, knocking two holes in the plywood before calling Escambia County Fire Rescue for assistance. A crew from the ECFR Ferry Pass Station came to the rescue, prying up the plywood and digging around the dog until he could be freed.

Tate High Valedictorian To Appear On ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ Tonight

Samantha Brown, the 2017 Tate High School valedictorian, will appear on “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” beginning tonight.

Millionaire airs at 6:30 p.m. on WEAR 3.

Brown is now a mechanical engineering major at the University of West Florida.

Samantha’s little sister, Maggie Brown, appeared last month in te Jeopardy! Teen Tournament. They actually found out on the same day last summer that they had been selected for their respective shows, according to mom Clarissa Brown. Maggie is a sophomore at Tate.
