Traffic Delays But No Injuries In Highway 97, Highway 29 Wreck

There were no injuries in a crash that shut down part of the Highway 97 at Highway 29 intersection for two hours Thursday night.
Both drivers refused medical transport to the hospital after the wreck about 6 p.m. The roadway reopened about 8 p.m.
The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Escambia EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded.

Escambia Man Identified As Motorcyclist Killed In Crash That Led To Second Crash, Fire Chief Death

The motorcyclist in a crash Wednesday near the Muscogee Bridge that led to the death of a fire chief has been identified as an Escambia County man.
Keith Owens, age 57, of Pensacola collided with a 2011 International semi driven by 52-year old Patrick Bankester of Bay Minette on Alabama Highway 112 near the state line and Muscogee Road. Bankester was not injured. Owens was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Fire Chief Dwain S. Bradshaw, 41, was among those that responded to a 3:50 a.m. crash.
Clifton Harrison, age 59 of Mobile, was traveling east on Highway 112 in a loaded 1999 Freightliner log truck (pictured below). Alabama State Troopers said he struck two unoccupied vehicles — a 2007 Peterbilt and a 2011 Dodge truck — before leaving the roadway and striking Bradshaw. The log truck came to rest off the roadway on its side.
Bradshaw was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. He was the district chief at the Bellview Fire Station and the assistant chief at the Beulah Fire Station.
Alabama troopers are continuing their investigation into the exact cause of the crashes.

Cantonment Man Charged With Battery Of His Girlfriend

A Cantonment man with history of battery convictions has been charged with the battery of his girlfriend.
Jason John Day, 45, was charged with felony battery and criminal mischief against the woman he had lived with for the past month. Thursday, he remained in the Escambia County Jail without bond.
He allegedly hit her on the buttocks, threw clothes at her, spat on her, pushed her down and kicked in a door causing damage to the door, door frame and wall. He was heavily intoxicated at the time, according to an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office report.
Day has at least three prior batter convictions from Niceville, Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach, according to the ECSO.

New Precinct And Polling Place Added For A Growing Beulah

A new precinct and polling location have been added to accommodate the growing Beulah area, according to Escambia County Supervisor of Elections David Stafford.
The new Precinct 114 was created by dividing Precinct 43 into two precincts and was approved by the Board of County Commissioners earlier this year. The new polling location for Precinct 114 will be located at Windy Hill Baptist Church, 9896 Rebel Road. Precinct 43 voters will continue to vote at Beulah Freewill Baptist Church, 7561 Mobile Highway.
All voters impacted by this precinct change will be notified by mail with a new voter information card and a map to the new polling location. Precinct 114 voters will be voting in the same districts and contests in 2020 as they have since 2011 in Precinct 43.
On election day, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Voters will receive a sample ballot in advance of election day, including information on early voting, which will be available at several locations throughout the county prior to the 2020 presidential primary, primary and general elections. Voters who wish to vote-by-mail can contact the elections office at EscambiaVotes.com.
Pigskin Picks: Century Council’s Friday Football Favorites

The Century Town Council has picked football favorites for state playoff games that begin Friday night.
The council voted unanimously to offer well wishes to the Northview Chiefs, Flomaton Hurricanes and Escambia Academy Cougars as they enter round one of the playoffs.
Northview will host Jay in the FHSAA Region 1-1a quarterfinals, Flomaton will host Opp in AHSAA 3A, and Escambia Academy will host Lakeside in AISA AA play.
Pedestrian Struck And Killed In Escambia County

A 60-year old pedestrian lost her life Wednesday night in Escambia County.
The Florida Highway Patrol said 60-year old Doris Crossman began to cross New Warrington Road near Fairfield Drive and walked directly into the path of a Ford F150 driven by 74-year old Jerry Graham, Sr., of Crestview at 5:21 p.m.
Graham was not injured and is not facing any charges.
Dozens Take Advantage Of Mobile Drivers License Services

Escambia County Tax Collector Scott Lunsford was pleased with the turnout for the Florida Licensing On Wheels (FLOW) mobile office in Century this week.
There were 35 people that took advantage of the available of the mobile services at an event that was a partnership between Lunsford and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles at the Billy G. Ward Courthouse on North Century Boulevard.
There were 35 people that stopped by, including 12 drivers license transactions, six identification cards, seven motor vehicle transactions and one voter registration.
The mobile united is slated to return to Century early next year.
FLOW is a stand-alone mobile office with technology to provide most motorists’ needs. The mobile unit provides a convenient method to renew a driver’s license, obtain a replacement driver’s license, conversion or reciprocation of out-of-state license, change a name or address on a current driver’s license or identification card, and get a first-time identification card. In addition to licensing services, the mobile unit also provides an opportunity to renew or replace a vehicle registration and apply, renew or replace disabled parking placards. Written and driving tests are not available from the FLOW unit.

Two Injured In Highway 29 Crash In Molino

Two people were injured in a two vehicle crash late Wednesday morning in Molino.
The crash happened about 11 .am. on Highway 29 near Jimmy’s Grill. Two people were transported to area hospitals by Escambia County EMS, and two others refused treatment.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating. The Molino and Cantonment stations of Escambia Fire Rescue also responded.
