The Jr. Miss Jay and Miss Jay were named recently in an event sponsored by the Jay High School FCCLA to support chapter projects and attend a February educational program.

Miss Jay Beauties Named

Miss Jay Elementary, Little Miss Jay and Tiny Miss Jay were named recently. The event was sponsored by the Jay High School FCCLA to support chapter projects and attend a February educational program.

There were three divisions — Tiny Miss for K to first grade, Little Miss for second to fourth grade, and Miss Jay Elementary for fifth and sixth grade.

Team Depot Volunteers For Century Care Center

Veterans from all branches of service were honored Friday at Ernest Ward Middle School.

The program included several video interviews with local veterans. The interviews will be preserved in the school’s library for future generations.

A tribute to the U.S. Coast Guard included a fly-in by Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from New Orleans.

Galen Goetter Graduates From Basic Training

November 14, 2010

Air Force Airman Galen M. Goetter has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Glen and Abby Goetter of North Pine Barren Road, McDavid.

Local Students Named To All-State Bands

November 12, 2010

Several North Escambia area students are among 23 selected to a Florida Bandmasters Association’ All-State bands.

Travis Allen of Jay High School on the trombone was selected to the All-State High School Honor Band. Chris Snyder of Tate High on the trumpet was selected to the All-State Symphonic Band, while Jacob Dearrington of Tate on the trumpet was named to the All-State Symphonic Orchestra Winds.

Lindsey Gordon of  Tate on the piccolo was named to the All-State Concert Orchestra Winds, and Kirstin Pike of Jay on the clarinet was named to the All-State Middle School Honor Band.

Two Ransom Middle School students, Matthew J. Hardy on the tuba and Robin Hall on the saxophone, were selected for the All-State Middle School Band.

The students will perform January 14 and 15 in Tampa during a series of All-State concerts.
