After some morning rain, we are expecting sunny skies and cool temps this afternoon, with a freeze the next several nights.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. West wind between 5 and 10 mph.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Wind chill values between 15 and 25 early. Northwest wind between 5 and 15 mph.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Some Students In School Today; Others Out For President’s Day

It’s President’s Day, and for some it’s a day out of school. But for others, it’s back to the books after a long weekend that started with a rare snow day.

Students in Escambia County, Florida, will be in class today, while students in Santa Rosa County get the day off.

Today was due to be a holiday for Escambia County, Alabama, students, but today is now a make up day following last Friday’s snow day.

Ernest Ward Middle Cheerleaders Third Best In Nation; Northview High Places Eighth

(3:30 P.M. UPDATE FROM ORLANDO)

The Ernest Ward Middle School cheerleaders have been named the third best in the nation in their division in the Universal Cheerleaders Association national championships in Orlando.

The Northview High School Competition Cheerleaders placed eighth in their division.

Member of the Ernest Ward Middle School team are: Hannah Gibson, Katelynne Calloway, Paeton Hadley, Shnala Banks, Reagan Bell, Raven Weaver, Madison Arrington, Jadlyn Agerton, Mallory Ryan, Tamara Green, Anna Fischer, Morgan Ward, Lily Townson, Kendall Cobb, Saige Garrett, Dariane Guy, Mariah Albritton, Danielle Robinson, Kristen Byrd, Ali Martin, Courtney Weaver, Lana Clayton, Chelsea Ward and Mallory Wiggins.

Snow Tonight? Maybe For Some, No For Others

(Updated 4:00 p.m.) Two days after the first snowfall in 14 years, there is a chance of more snow tonight.

The weather service says an inch is possible in and around Atmore and Flomaton and very little accumulation is expected in North Escambia. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Escambia County, Alabama.

“There will be adequate moisture for rain to develop this evening just ahead of the cold front…and then transition to a mix of rain and snow after midnight as the cold airmass pushes through the area. Temperatures could be cold enough late tonight and early Monday morning for the most of the precipitation north of I-10 to fall completely as snow,” according to the weather advisory.

Any snow that accumulates would be expected to end by daybreak and melt quickly in the sun.

Tonight Mostly cloudy. Slight chance of rain in the evening… then rain likely after midnight. Snow likely late in the night. Little or no snow accumulation. Lows in the mid 30s. South winds 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation 70 percent.
Presidents Day Mostly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Chance of rain and snow in the morning. Highs in the upper 40s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 50 percent.
Monday Night Colder. Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 20s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
Tuesday Mostly sunny. Highs around 50. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph becoming 5 to 15 mph in the afternoon.
Tuesday Night Partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 20s. West winds around 5 mph.
Wednesday Sunny. Highs in the mid 50s.
Wednesday Night Clear. Lows in the mid 20s.
Thursday Sunny. Highs around 60.

NHS, Ernest Ward Cheerleaders Seek National Titles This Afternoon

Both the Northview High School and Ernest Ward Middle School competition cheerleaders will try for national titles this afternoon in Orlando. The Ernest Ward cheerleaders are defending their title of second best in the nation.

Both EWMS and NHS will compete in the final round in their respective divisions of the Universal Cheerleaders Association.

Snow In Atmore, Walnut Hill, Century, Flomaton, Jay, McDavid and North

Thanks for joining us today for our 12 hours of live snow coverage here on NorthEscambia.com.

Lots of snow remains on the ground north of I-65, and there is scattered snow between I-65 and the Alabama/Florida line. There is very little, if any, snow remaining on the ground in North Escambia.

Snow was reported across the area in Atmore, Walnut Hill, Century, Molino, Flomaton and Jay.

Saturday morning we’ll have a complete snow recap, including hundreds of photos that we have not posted today that were taken from North Escambia to Monroeville and Evergreen. We will have our photos, plus dozens more reader submitted photos — even an eight and a half foot tall snowman built by some Flomaton High School students.

First National Bank & Trust, Atmore, closing at noon. Plans to be open Saturday drive-thru 8-noon
Gulf Winds Credit Union in Atmore & Brewton. Pensacola, Milton and Gulf Breeze are open. Atmore plans to reopen Saturday, weather permitting.
