Creepy Crawlies Today At The Library

There’s a chance for your kids to learn a little more about the creepy crawlies in North Escambia this afternoon at the Century Branch Library.
Beth Bolles, Escambia County Extension Service, will present “Creepy Crawly Bugs” at the Century Branch Library at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come see and learn about strange local insects. The event is free. For more info, call (850) 256-6217.

The flood warning has been extended until late Thursday night for the Escambia River near Century.
Last Sunday night, the stage was 17.0 feet. No flooding was occurring and minor flooding was forecast. The flood stage is 17.0 feet. The river was forecast to rise above flood stage by Monday morning and continue to rise near 17.4 feet by Tuesday morning. The river will fall below flood stage by Thursday evening.
Location Change For Today’s Northview Softball Games

There has been a location change for a couple of Northview High School softball games against West Florida Tech.
The game scheduled for this afternoon with West Florida Tech will be played at West Florida Tech. The April 8 game against West Florida Tech will be played at Northview. The JV games will begin at 4 p.m., and the varsity games will follow at 6 p.m. on both dates.
Deadline To Help Haiti With Buckets Of Hope Program

You have through the weekend if you would like to join area churches in helping Haiti with the Buckets of Hope program — an earthquake relief effort that is providing hope to the families of Haiti one 5-gallon bucket of food at a time.
As of late last week, over 1,100 buckets had been collected, according to Drayton Smith, associate pastor at the First Baptist Church of Cantonment. The buckets contain specific food items, including beans, rice, sugar, flour, cooking oil and other essentials. It’s enough to feed a family of four for about a week, plus they have the bucket to reuse to haul water, store food items or even move rubble in the earthquake stricken land.
The First Baptist Church of Bratt is serving as a collection point for the north end of Escambia County, according to FBC Bratt Student Pastor Tim Hawsey. In the Cantonment and central portions of Escambia County, the buckets are still be collected by the First Baptist Church of Cantonment.
The deadline to drop off the filled buckets at the First Baptist Church of Bratt is Sunday, March 14. More information is available from through the student ministry of the church.

Flood Warning For Escambia River

The Flood Warning continues for the Escambia River near Century from Monday morning until Wednesday evening.
Early Sunday, the stage was 16.4 feet. No flooding was occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
The flood stage is 17 feet. The Escambia River is forecast to rise above flood stage by Monday morning and continue to rise to near 17.2 feet by early Tuesday morning. The river will fall below flood stage by Wednesday early afternoon. At 17 feet, considerable flooding of lowlands will occur.
Red Flag Warning Today

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a red flag warning for this afternoon.
Breezy and dry westerly winds have allowed for relative humidities to drop below critical levels over the northwest Florida Panhandle. A red flag warning has been issued for the northwest Florida Panhandle for relative humidities at or slightly below 35 percent combined with breezy westerly winds of 15 to 20 mph.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now…or will shortly. A combination of strong winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.

The junior varsity and varsity hitting exhibition will be rescheduled.
