Sawmill Day And Car Show Today In Century

The 4th annual Sawmill Day and Car Show will be held todyin Century.
The car show registration will be open until 11 a.m., with awards at 2 p.m.
The day features entertainment, music, demonstrations, dancers, craft and restoration displays, and food and drinks.
The event is taking place in the Historical Park at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Fourth Street in Century.

Tate FFA Alumini Rodeo Is Saturday Night

The Tate High School FFA Alumni Foundation will present its 23rd Annual Rodeo at the James C. Robinson Escambia County Equestrian Center tonight. The rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m.
T Tickets can also be purchased the day of the event at the Equestrian Center gate at the cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children.
The rodeo is a project of the Tate FFA Alumni Foundation. The FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.
The James C. Robinson Escambia County Equestrian Center is located at 7750 Mobile Highway in Beulah.

Florida Baptist Disaster Relief is setting up it’s Disaster Relief Command Center at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Pensacola
If you are interested in volunteering to help with disaster relief, go to Hillcrest Saturday morning at 8:00 for volunteer assignments. Hillcrest is located at 800 East Nine Mile Road on the corner of 9 Mile and Guidy Lane.
Escambia, Santa Rosa Schools Open Friday

Escambia and Santa Rosa county schools will be open on Friday.
However, Holm Elementary School in Escambia County will remain closed; those students and teachers will be notified at a later date. In Santa Rosa County, West Navarre Primary will open at a later date.
Due to numerous road closures, some Escambia County school buses will be re-routed. Parents should watch for bus stop and re-routing announcements on the Transportation Department’s web site at www.escambiayellow.com. Parents are advised to expect delays as the buses navigate the roadways. Absences resulting from missing the bus and/or not being able to attend school will be excused.
No state testing will be conducted on Friday in Escambia County.
Escambia Superintendent Malcolm Thomas remarks, “The School District stands ready to offer recovery support through flexibility with excused absences and assistance with displaced student enrollment issues.”
‘Shrek The Musical’ On Stage Tonight At Northview

The Northview High School Music Department will present “Shrek The Musical” tonight and Saturday night. Performance time is 7:00 both evenings in the Northview theatre. Tickets are $8 in advance and are available in the school office or at the door.
Jail Victims Identified

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two victims who lost their lives in the explosion at the Escambia County Jail Wednesday night.
- 45 year old David Paul Weinstein
- 54 year old Robert Earl Simmons
The Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating the cause of the explosion.
The ECSO said 184 people, including inmates and corrections officers, were transported to area medical centers for treatment. Two inmates and one Escambia County Jail Correction Officer remain hospitalized.

National Day Of Prayer Events Planned Today

National Day of Prayer events are planned today in Century, Flomaton and Atmore.
In Century, a National Day of Prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. in the Ag Building on West Highway 4. Everyone is invited as prayers are said for the nation, local government and more.
In Flomaton, the doors of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for anyone that wants to pray.
In Atmore, multiple events will be held:
- Prayer Walk — all day at Houston Avery and Tom Byrne Park
- Prayer — 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at the Atmore City Hall
- Children’s Prayer – 5:30-6:45 for K-6 students accompanied by an adult in the old Escambia Count High gym
- Bible Reading – 6:15 p.m. Escambia County High School new gym

Escambia County Under State Of Emergency (With Latest County Update)

Escambia County Emergency Response is still responding to calls for help as a result of this week’s flooding event. However, the call volume into the Escambia County 911 Center has fallen drastically since noon on Wednesday. Since the start of this disaster event Tuesday evening, Escambia County has responded to 281 cases while Escambia County Fire Rescue has responded to 266 cases. All total, the Escambia County 911 dispatch has received 4,129 calls between the start of the emergency at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Flood waters are receeding, but drivers are asked to avoid driving if at all possible. Escambia County will begin a full inspection of roads, bridges and other infrastructure early Thurday morning.

Gulf Power Restores 35,000 Customers

Almost 17,000 Gulf Power customers in Escambia County were without power at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Gulf Power Company has restored power to more than 35,000 customers as of 9 a.m. this morning. Crews resumed restoration efforts at 6 a.m. after the storms began to subside.
Less than 24,000 customers are still without power, primarily in Escambia County, which was hit hard by nearly 2 feet of rain since Tuesday afternoon.
Crews from Mississippi Power, a Gulf Power sister company, are en route to Northwest Florida to help the company with restoration efforts.
For customers’ safety, Gulf Power offices in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties will not open until 1 p.m. today.
Crews could do little work overnight because of the flooded road conditions and continued storms that rolled through the area. Widespread damage to the system is still being assessed before an estimated restoration time for all customers can be determined.
Gulf Power’s customers are experiencing fewer power outages than any other time in recent history. In fact, investments in the power grid have made a significant difference, improving reliability for the utility’s 436,000 customers by more than 35 percent since 2010.
“Our line and support personnel have had a lot of experience over the past couple of years restoring power,” said Jeff Rogers, Gulf Power Communications manager. “When you pair that with the improvements we’re making to our power grid — the bottom line is customers get their power back on more quickly.”
