Homeless Can Get State ID Cards Today At Waterfront Mission

Today, the Florida Department of Highway Safety’s mobile unit will be at the Waterfront Rescue Mission located at 348 West Herman Street in Pensacola. The Department of Highway Safety will be issuing “on the spot” Florida ID Cards to the homeless or those in need.
Any individual in need of an identification card is encouraged to come to the Mission between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.. Individuals will need to bring their birth certificate and social security card with them to obtain the ID.
Public Workshop Tonight On Nine Mile Road Widening Project

The Florida Department of Transportation will host a public workshop this evening concerning the reevaluation of a study for widening Nine Mile Road from two to four lanes beginning at U.S. 90/Mobile Highway to Pine Forest Road.
The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Plainview Baptist Church, 1101 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola. There will be no formal presentation. Maps, drawings and other study information will be on display and FDOT representatives will be available to answer questions.
Flomaton At Northview Baseball Canceled

This afternoon’s Flomaton at Northview baseball game has been canceled due to wet conditions on Northview’s field. If conditions approve, Northview is still scheduled to host Pensacola High School on Tuesday.
The Northview softball team will travel to Holmes County in Bonifay as scheduled for a JV game at 4:00 and a varsity game at 6:00.

Jay Meeting To Discuss Garbage Franchise In Northern Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa County is looking to franchise the collection of residential waste in the non-incorporated areas of Santa Rosa County north of the Yellow River.
A meeting will be held tonight at 6:00 at the Jay Community Center, 5259 Booker Street, to discuss the plan and hear public input. The proposal will not impact residents within the town limits of Jay.
Similar meetings were previously held in East Milton and Pace.

Hwy 29 Ramp To I-10 Closed Sunday, Monday

The on ramp from southbound U.S. 29 to westbound I-10 in Escambia County will be closed Sunday, Feb. 23 and Monday, Feb. 24 as crews construct a temporary barrier wall. The temporary closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists will be directed to use the northbound U.S. 29 on ramp during the temporary closure.
This work is part of the I-10 resurfacing project which extends from U.S. 29 to east of Palafox Street. The project also includes the milling and resurfacing of all ramps and ramp shoulders associated with the U.S. 29/I-10 interchange, shoulder widening, guardrail upgrades, crash cushion replacement, removal of portable traffic monitoring sites (PTMS), installation of new signs, pavement markings, and sodding. The entire project is slated for completion summer 2014.
During construction drivers will encounter overnight lane restrictions on both I-10 and the U.S. 29/ I-10 interchange. Lane closures on I-10 and intermittent closures or restrictions on the interchange will be limited to 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.
Annual Walnut Hill Ruritan Farm Auction Is Saturday

The Annual Walnut Hill Ruritan Club Farm Equipment Auction will be held this Saturday, February 22 beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The auction includes not only farm equipment, but also household items like tools and small equipment, lawn and garden items, antiques and more. There will be a 10 percent sale fee with a $5 minimum and a $500 maximum. Settlement must be made the dale of the sale; unknown buyers must have cash, cashier’s check or a letter of credit from their bank.
Concessions will be available all day from the Ruritan Club.
The sale will be located at the Walnut Hill Community Center on Highway 97 just north of Ernest Ward Middle School.

Today Is Deadline For Registering Barnyard Animals In Century

Today is the deadline for Century residents to register their non-conforming barnyard animals with Town Hall.
As of December 23, it became illegal to keep a horse, mule, donkey, goat, sheep, or cow within the town limits except in areas that are zoned agricultural or rural residential. Hogs were already prohibited in all areas of the town.
One horse or cow is now allowed for every two acres, one donkey or mule per acre and one goat or sheep per one-half acre. The animals and their pens must be 200 feet or greater from a dwelling or property line.
Anyone with the regulated animals in an area not zoned agricultural or rural residential within the town limits, was required toregister their animals at the Century Town Hall withing 60 days from the passage of the ordinance. Anyone with nonconforming animals must apply for and be granted a variance from the town council within six months or get rid of their animals.
