Everything Is Free At Yard Sale Today Just For Flood Victims

The First Baptist Church of Cantonment is holding a “Free Yard Sale” today.

The church and Molino Park Elementary School teamed up to collect items…all of which will be free for flood victims to stop by and get what they need. The “Free Yard Sale” for flood victims will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Cantonment at 118 Morris Avenue.

Available items include clothes, shoes, new undergarments, bedding, nonperishable food and toiletries.

Tate Band To Present Spaghetti Jazz Dinner And Concert Tonight

The Tate High School Jazz Bands will present their Spaghetti Jazz Dinner/Concert  at 6:30 tonight in the school cafeteria.  Admission is $5 and proceeds this year will go to help two Tate Band families who lost their home in the recent floods.

The Tate Concert Bands will present their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 20th at Hillcrest Baptist Church at  6:30 p.m.   This Concert will include a tribute to Erin Benson as the Wind Ensemble will perform a piece based on the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul” conducted by Joe Hooten and will feature Leslie Ann Godwin with vocals.  Admission is free.

Areal Flood Advisory

An area flood advisory is in effect for northern Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in Florida and Escambia County in Alabama. Radar estimates 4-6 inches of rain fell across the area this afternoon, with some isolated areas receiving 7 to 11 inches. Rain has mostly ended across the area, but runoff may continue to cause problems into the night.

  • Tonight Showers and thunderstorms possible.  Low around 54. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%
  • Thursday Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 68. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Thursday Night Clear, with a low around 47. North wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west after midnight.
  • Friday Sunny, with a high near 78. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Friday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 51. Northwest wind around 5 mph.
  • Saturday Sunny, with a high near 80. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

One More Try Friday To Hold Special Olympics Spring Games

After being rained out three times, organizers are going to try one more time to hold the 18th Annual Escambia County School District’s Special Olympics Spring Games at Tate High School.

The Special Olympic Spring Games were originally scheduled for March 14 but were rescheduled from that date due to rain.

Missing Teen Located

Authorities say a missing Gonzalez girl has been safely located.

Earlier story:

Brianna Renee Hual, 15, was last seen Monday night at her home in the 2600 block of South Highway 95A. She was wearing neon pink jeans and white flip-flops. Hual is a white female with brown eyes, brown hair, about 5-feet, 2-inches tall, weighing about 120 pounds.

Family members say she may have been picked up by a 22-year male.

Today: Possible Traffic Delays On Highway 97, Hanks Road, Bratt Road

Today, drivers can expect temporary delays on Highway 97, Hanks Road and Bratt Road in the Walnut Hill and Bratt areas.

Crews will perform pavement core sampling and surveying on Highway  97 over the Sandy Hollow Creek Bridge, Hanks Road over the Breastworks Creek Bridge and Bratt Road over Canoe Creek Bridge. Lane restrictions will be in effect from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Construction work could be delayed or rescheduled due to inclement weather.  The Florida Department of Transportation is urging drivers to obey posted signs and use caution when traveling through the areas.

Project Outreach Tents Bring Assistance To Worst Hit Neighborhoods

Escambia County has launched Project Outreach, a disaster relief program that uses field teams to provide information and to connect citizens with the appropriate agencies in the most heavily impacted areas. These sites will be operational  7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, with additional hours to be announced.

The field teams have set up tents at the following eight locations:

  • Bristol Park*,​ 10100 Bristol Park Rd
  • Crescent Lake*, 6105 Fairview Drive
  • Damascus Road Mission Baptist Church, 8198 Untreiner Avenue
  • Innerarity Point, 13600 Innerarity Point Road, across from Perdido Bay United Methodist Church
  • Lake Charlene*, Corner of 6815 Kitty Hawk Circle
  • Legion Field, 1301 West Gregory Street
  • Piedmont Area*, Roger Scott Tennis Center, 2130 Summit Boulevard
  • Wedgewood Community Center*, 6405 Wagner Road

*FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance Team (DSAT) will be onsite Sunday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

A DSAT can register a citizen for FEMA assistance and check registrant’s status if already enrolled.

The Escambia County Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) opens Sunday, May 11, at the Brownsville Community Center, 3100 West Desoto Street, Pensacola.  Applicants may go to a Disaster Recovery Center for information about FEMA or other disaster assistance, or for questions related to your case.

The hours of operations are:

  • Sundays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Mondays – Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
