ThunderRun Racing Boat On Display Wednesday In Cantonment

There’s a big event planned for Wednesday in Cantonment for racing fans.
The Stihl offshore racing boat US-1 will be on display Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at A-1 Small Engines in Cantonment.
A free lunch will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and prizes will be given away including the winner’s choice of a Stihl blower or a Stihl trimmer plus a 25 quart Engel cooler.
A-1 Accessories and A-1 Small Engines is located at 700 South Highway 29 in Cantonment.
The inaugural ThunderRun Super Boat Grand Prix will be held Sunday, August 24 in downtown Pensacola. Sunday’s races will start at 1 p.m. and 3 pm. with Plaza de Luna and Maritime Park designated as prime viewing areas.
About 800 Vote Early So Far; Early Voting Though Saturday

Early voting is underway for the 2014 Primary Election in Escambia County. As of Sunday night, after two days of early voting, 799 ballots were cast.
Early voting is available each day through Saturday, August 23 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the following locations:
- Molino Community Center, 6450 Highway 95A North
- Escambia County Extension Office, 3740 Stefani Road
- Genealogy Branch Library, 5740 N. 9th Avenue
- Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds, 6655 W. Mobile Highway
- Southwest Branch Library, 12248 Gulf Beach Highway
- West Florida Public Library, 239 N. Spring Street
- Supervisor of Elections Main Office, 213 Palafox Place, Second Floor
Early voters cast paper ballots through digital scanners and may choose any one of the seven sites – three more than the 2012 Primary Election.

Free School Supplies, Food Today In Century, Molino And Cantonment

Three North Escambia events will offer help to those in need this weekend with items such as free school supplies and food.
Century — Farm Share
Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, the AmeriCorps Coalition of Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties and Farm Share will host a free food distribution event for residents of Century and Florida residents North Escambia area (including Walnut Hill, Bratt, Molino, Cantonment and Jay) on Saturday at The Habitat Building (former middle school) at 150 East Pond Street. The event will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and will continue while supplies last or until noon. Assisted by volunteers, Farm Share will distribute fresh produce, water and canned foods for up to 300 families in need. All participants must have a valid photo identification.
Molino — Day Of Hope
A free Day of Hope will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Victory Assembly of God at 1895 Victory Road, just south of Barrineau Park Road on Highway 29. The event will offer free groceries, haircuts, backpacks, school supplies, a kids zone and a hot lunch. Items are available while supplies last, rain or shine. No identification is required.
Cantonment — Back To School Bash
The Cantonment Improvement Committee’s Back to School Bash will provide free school supplies to those in need. The event will begin at 10 a.m Saturday at Carver Park, 208 Webb Street in Cantonment.

Highway 29, I-10 Overpass Work Begins Wednesday Night

Work will being on the I-10 overpass over Highway 29 Wednesday night.
Between 8-10 p.m, a Florida Department of Transportation maintenance contractor crew will clean and patch the northbound inside lane of the overpass bridge on Highway 29 at I-10 eastbound, according to an Escambia County news release.

Northview, EWMS Hosting ‘Glow Run’; Cross County Parent, Athlete Meeting

Northview High and Ernest Ward Middle school’s cross country programs will host a athlete and parent information meeting and “glow run” Thursday.
Anyone interest in learning more about the sport or planning to run this year needs to attend.
The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Travis Nelson Park in Bratt on Highway 4, just west of Northview. Participants should bring glow items such as glow sticks, bracelets, etc. During the evening, Northview shirts will be on sale for $5.
