Many farmers have been forced to turn to irrigation for their crops, like in the pictured field this afternoon in Walnut Hill. There has been no significant rainfall in Walnut Hill in over a week, while other areas have seen numerous afternoon and evening downpours in the past seven days. There no chance of rain in our forecast again until Thursday.

Emergency Repairs Underway On Nine Mile Road

Emergency repairs to Nine Mile Road between the Escambia River Bridge and Scenic Highway are underway.

Daily after morning peak hour traffic, crews will make repairs to the westbound outside, right lane and shoulder. Westbound traffic will be restricted to one lane between the Escambia River Bridge and Scenic Highway for approximately three weeks. Drivers are reminded to use caution, be patient and to be a safe and courteous driver.

All planned construction activities may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.

Heat Advisory: Miserable Humidity, High Around 100

Pensacola set a new record high of 99 on Saturday, breaking the old record of 98 set in 1955. Today is set to be another miserably hot day, with possibly record highs and horrible heat indexes.

There is a heat advisory in effect.

There is a heat advisory again for Sunday. Children, the elderly and people with chronic ailments are usually the first to suffer from the heat. Heat exhaustion, cramps or in extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions.

Today is the final day of early voting for the August 26 primary. Seven early voting locations will be open today in Escambia County from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. –

  • Genealogy Branch Library,  5740 N. 9th Avenue
  • Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds, 6655 W. Mobile Highway
  • Southwest Branch Library, 12248 Gulf Beach Highway
  • West Florida Public Library, 239 N. Spring Street
  • Supervisor of Elections Main Office, 213 Palafox Place, Second Floor

As of the end of the day Friday, 3,646 people had voted early in Escambia County.

Short Stacks To Benefit Tate Showband

Northviews Chiefs Garnet And Gold Game Tonight

The Northview Chiefs will be in action tonight during a preseason Garnet and Gold game at Tommy Weaver Stadium in Bratt.

Players, band members, dance team, cheerleaders and NJROTC members will be introduced beginning at 6:15 p.m., with kickoff set for 7:00.

According to school administration:

There is no reserved parking. Anyone parking in the faculty-staff-visitor parking should enter through the student parking area to the gate at the bottom of the hill behind the softball field. The breezeway should not be used.

Anyone parking in the regular baseball-football parking area will proceed to the game through the double gates adjacent to the baseball field. Ticket sellers and ticket takers will be stationed by the games.

The entire Northview campus is a “Tobacco Free School Zone”. There is no smoking or tobacco products allowed on the campus in any area.

Temperatures will be on the rise for the rest of the week, but the heat index will be the big story the next few days.  Heat indices of 103-108 are forecast Tuesday through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
