Century Council To Meet Monday Night

The Century Town Council will hold their second regular meeting of January Monday night. The meeting was postponed from last week by the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

Ordinary business on the agenda for the council includes consideration of three finance agreements with the Capital Trust Agency, a independent financing body of which Century and Gulf Breeze are members.

The council meets at the Century Town Hall at 7 p.m. All meetings are open to the public.

Semi-finalists for Escambia County’s Teacher of the Year have been named. They are:

The five finalists will be named on January 27, and the Escambia County Teacher of the Year will be announced at the Golden Apple Awards Dinner, sponsored by the Escambia County Public Schools Foundation, on February 26.

Northview Holding Financial Aid Workshop Tonight

The Northview High School guidance department is hosting a financial aid workshop beginning at 5:00 this evening for seniors.

Students can receive assistance completing the Federal Student Financial Aid application (FAFSA),

Computers will be available with assistance from counseling staff to submit the FAFSA. Parents are requested to be present with 2013 tax information to facilitate submission.

Escambia Jail Inmate Dies

An Escambia County Jail inmate died this morning, according to county officials.

The 43-year old white male was transported to an area hospital about 6:15 a.m. where he pronounced deceased at 7 a.m. The name of the inmate or any medical condition have not been released.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Further details are expected upon completion of that investigation.

MLK Holiday Closures

The following closures and schedule changes are planned due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday:

Government

  • All city, county and state offices will be closed.
  • The West Florida Library and Santa Rosa County library systems are closed.
  • Century’s regular council meeting has been rescheduled for January 26

Schools:

  • Public schools are closed today.
  • University of West Florida and Pensacola State College are closed

ECAT:

  • No buses or trolleys will operate today.

ECUA

  • ECUA offices will be closed.   However, all residential and commercial sanitation collections for ECUA customers in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties will be unaffected, and will be carried out as scheduled.

U.S. Mail:

  • U.S. Postal Service retail windows closed, no mail delivery except Express Mail.
