Great Free Family Fun: Blue Jacket Jamboree Is Today

There’s plenty of good family fun for everyone today in Molino.

The Northview High School FFA Blue Jacket Jamboree is going on from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the new Escambia County 4-H Facility at on Highway 99 at Chalker Road in Molino. The event is being held in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Agriculture and Natural Resources Youth Organization Youth Spring Livestock Show. Admission and parking are free for both events.

Over 50 vendors are scheduled for the Blue Jacket Jamboree, along with plenty of food, entertainment, a car show, a tractor show and a “Blue Jacket Baby Contest” at 10:15 a.m.

The livestock show schedule is as follows:

  • Rabbits and Poultry: 8 – 9 a.m.
  • Swine Show: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Market Steer Show: 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
  • Goat and Lamb Show: 1:20 – 2:30 p.m.
  • Beef Breeding Show: 2:30 – 4 p.m.
  • Dairy Show: 4 – 4:15 p.m.
  • Preview Steer Show: 4:15 – 4:30 p.m.
  • Livestock Sale and Auction: 5 p.m.

Barrineau Park To Clean Up On Saturday

Earth Day will be celebrated this Saturday at the Barrineau Park Community Center with a Community Cleanup Day.

Volunteers are asked to arrive at the Barrineau Park Community Center by 9  a.m. to receive their assignments. Bags, gloves and water will be provided. Lunch will be served back at the community center for all participants beginning at 11 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the Barrineau Park Community Center and the Honeysuckle Garden Club.

Learn About Early North Escambia Railroads, Old 100

Residents are invited to learn how the early railroads drove work in North Escambia on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society Museum, 610 4th Street, Century.

Speakers Jerry Fischer and Russell Brown of the historical s0ciety will make a presentation and offe a tour of their museum including Old 100, a restored sawmill transport steam engine. This program is sponsored by the West Florida Public Libraries and the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society for “The Way We Worked” Exhibition.

The complimentary exhibit “The Way We Worked.” A Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition, which celebrates the history of our nation’s diverse workers and industries on display at the Lillian F. King Museum in the Molino Community Complex, 6450 Highway 95-A North, until April 30. Viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekly, closed Sundays.

Admission is free.

SBA Disaster Loan Centers In Century And Pensacola Close Today

Today is the last day for tornado victims in Century and Pensacola to apply in person for disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

The loans available to business, non-profits, churches an individuals that suffered physical or economic losses as result of the EF-3 tornado on February 15 in the Century area or the Feburary 23 EF-3 tornado in the Pensacola area.

The Century Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Century Business Center, 140 East Pond Street, and the Pensacola location at the West Florida Regional Planning Council office, 4081 East Olive Road, Suite A, will both be open from 8 a.m. until a final closing at 3 p.m.

While the outreach centers will close today, the deadline to apply for physical damage assistance is June 6; the deadline for economic injury assistance applications is January 9, 2017.

The types of loans available include:

  • Business Physical Disaster Loans – Loans to businesses to repair or replace disaster-damaged property owned by the business, including real estate, inventories, supplies, machinery and  equipment. Businesses of any size are eligible. Private, non-profit organizations such as charities, churches, private universities, etc., are also eligible.
  • Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) – Working capital loans to help small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes meet their ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met as a direct result of the disaster. These loans are intended to assist through the disaster recovery period.
  • Home Disaster Loans – Loans to homeowners or renters to repair or replace disaster-damaged real estate and personal property, including automobiles.

Applicants must have a credit history acceptable to the SBA and the ability to repay all loans. Collateral is required for physical loss or economic injury disaster loans over $25,000. Loan terms range up to 30 years with interest rates from 1.813 to 6.25 percent.

The loans are also available in the contiguous Florida county of Santa Rosa and the contiguous Alabama counties of Escambia and Baldwin.

Several Escambia County meeting, including the county commission meeting, set for today have been canceled.

The meetings canceled due to a lack of a quorum are:

  • 9 a.m. Community Redevelopment Agency Meeting
  • 9:05 a.m. Agenda Work Session
  • 4:30 p.m. Public Forum
  • 5:30 p.m. Commission Regular Meeting with public hearings and reports

All items scheduled for the the April 21 meetings will be moved to the Thursday, May 5 meeting agendas.

Escambia Westgate To Hold Run, Walk, Wheel 5K Event Saturday

Escambia Westgate will hold a Run, Walk, Wheel 5K Event beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 23. Participants are invited to walk, run or wheel to help Escambia Westgate raise money for a fully adaptive gymnasium.
