Mrs. Katie Mae Marshall, 69, of Walnut Hill, Fla. transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Atmore Community Hospital.
She was a homemaker and a member of House of Prayer in Walnut Hill.
Those left with beautiful memories of her life are her six daughters, Addie Lee Thames, Joyce Ann Thames and Tracey Marshall, all of Walnut Hill, Fla., Deidra Richardson, Alanda Richardson and Amber Richard, all of Atmore; four sons, Bruno Marshall and Jimmy (Faye) Marshall, both of Atmore, Jerry Russell of Walnut Hill, Fla. and Jimmy (Mary) Mims of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Margaret (Lewis) George of Pensacola, Fla.; five brothers, Floyd (Mary) Thames, Jr. of Walnut Hill, Fla., Calvin (Pearlie Mae) Shedrone and Jimmy Shedrone, both of Mobile, Floyd T. Thames of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Simon Shedrone of Monroeville; seven grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the House of Prayer Church in Walnut Hill with Bishop John D. Young officiating. Inhumation was held in the New St. Paul Cemetery in Walnut Hill. Public viewing was held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. funeral time at the Church with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC of Atmore directing.
Charles Hayden Abbott

Charles Hayden Abbott, 99, of Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. He was born in Century, Florida in 1910 and was devoted to Northwest Florida all his life, working to enhance the quality of life for all citizens through his civic work and devotion to educational programs.
He was an outstanding athlete who lettered in baseball, basketball, football and track in high school before becoming a professional baseball player with the Southeastern League. He played baseball against Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Bill Dickey, among others. He went to spring training with the Boston Red Sox in 1930, before a knee injury ended his major league aspirations.
He served his country with distinction and honor in World War II as a Chief Electricians Mate in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in San Diego, San Francisco, and Pearl Harbor. Except for his years in service, he has lived in Panama City since 1937, working as district manager of Gulf Power Company and owner of Abbott Refrigeration.
He was the great great grandson of the man who served as sheriff of Northwest Florida in 1825 when it was a territory. He was appointed sheriff of Bay County by the governor in 1961, where he served for two years. He was director of the Law Enforcement Assistance Center for sixteen years, where he promoted law enforcement training throughout Northwest Florida.
He served his community through the First Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder Emeritus, also through the Boy’s Club and Rotary Club of Lynn Haven, where he was named the club’s first Paul Harris Fellow. He had been involved in every aspect of the law enforcement program at Gulf Coast Community College since it began, including service as a founding and sustaining member of the Law Enforcement Advisory Committee and as a valuable guide during a period between program directors. He attended every law enforcement graduation ceremony since the program began, until 1998 when his health prohibited him from attending.
The College recognized his extraordinary service through the Charles H. Abbott Award for Academic Excellence, which is given to the student in each law enforcement class with the highest academic achievement. He was a member emeritus of the Gulf Coast Community College Foundation for many years and a four-term director and two-term treasurer. He and his beloved late wife, Mary, were benefactors of the Foundation for many years and continued the support for many years, donating to the Honors Plaza Endowment Campaign.
The members of the District Board of Trustees named the college’s law enforcement training facility the Charles H. Abbott Criminal Justice Training Academy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rigell Abbott and brother, Bryan Abbott.
He is survived by a niece, Lenore Hilbert; 3 nephews, Frank Abbott, Jim Gaunt, Richard Gaunt; great nieces, Leigh H. Webb; great nephews, W. Guy Hilbert, Dr. Frank Abbott, Terry Abbott; great great nieces, Hayden Hilbert, Dabney Abbott; great great nephews, Kyle Hilbert and Christopher Abbott.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Panama City with Dr. Richard Watson officiating. Interment will be in the Bayview Cemetery, Pensacola, FL at a later date.

Yvonne Coffey

Yvonne Coffey, 69, of Jay, Fla., died on May 31, 2010. She attended Berrydale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanette and Gordon Jones, and husband, David L. Coffey Sr.
She is survived by son, David Jr. (Donna) Coffey; daughters, Vicki Coffey (Rhonda Blanke) and Mary Voyles and Tine Coffey (Kenny) Flowers; sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Henderson; grandchildren, Stacy (Blake) Thomas, Cara Coffey, Samantha Flowers, Matthew (Samantha) Cooley, Amber Owen, and Andrew Burst; great-grandchildren, Madalyn Thomas, Ciara Owen, and Alexa Owen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Thompson and Pastor Donnie Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Billy Golden, Richard Thompson, George Gibbs, Poque Thompson, Bernie Wall and Ben Coffey.
Flowers or donations can be made to the American Cancer Society and The American Heart Association.

Mrs. Grace R. Weeks, 76, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010. She retired from Escambia River Electric Co-op, after many years of service and she was a member of Berrydale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.T. and Inez Robinson and her husband, Jack Weeks.
She is survived by her sons, Paul (Beverly) Wade of Brewton, and Ronnie (Libby) Wade of Jay; a daughter, Diane (David) McCurdy of Jay; grandchildren, Kimberly Wade Madden, Michael Wade, Stephen Wade, Brian McCurdy and Jason McCurdy; brothers, Tommy, Eugene, Jimmy and O’Neil Robinson; a sister, Jeanette Lowe, four great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29, at 2 p.m. at Berrydale Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Gandy officiating. Burial followed at Pine Level Cemetery with Jay Funeral Home directing.
Randy ‘Shorty’ Moye

Mr. Randy ‘Shorty’ Moye, 50, died Friday, May 15, 2010. He was a lifelong resident of Century and had been employed by Service Welding, Burkhead Cotton Gin in Jay, Fla., and Commercial Landscaping. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Joseph, and his sister, Joann Moye.
He is survived by his parents, Pierce and Carolyn Moye of Century; his wife, Glenda Mayo of Century; daughters, Susan (Brian Beswick) Beeker of Milton, Fla., and Kimberly (Bryan Johnson) Copeland of Atmore; his sisters, Patricia (Larry) Johnson and Wanda (Everette) Brown, both of East Brewton, and Brenda Patterson of Century; his brother, Andy (Theresa) Moye of Flomaton; his grandchildren, Amber, Brian Jr., Zachary, Logan and Layla; a special friend, Bonnie King and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home with the Rev, Raymond Wiggins and Brother Tommy Lee Johnson officiating. Burial followed at McCurdy Cemetery with Jay Funeral Home directing.

Ms. Annette Lambeth Griffis, 48, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at a Pensacola, FL hospital.
Ms. Griffis was a native of Bogia, FL, a former resident of Century, FL for most of her life, a resident of McDavid, FL and attended the Pentacostal Church. She was preceded in death by her Father, J.D. Griffis, a Brother, Joseph Wayne Griffis, a Nephew, David Griffis, Brother-in-law, Kenneth Hanks, and a Sister-in-law, Mary Griffis.
Survivors include: a Son, Cody Lambeth of Atmore, AL; her Mother, Ruby Griffis of McDavid, FL; four Brothers, Danny Griffis, Gary Griffis, Dennis Griffis and Tony Griffis, all of McDavid, FL; two Sisters, Patsy Griffis of McDavid, FL and Brenda Hanks of Century, FL; and a Number of Nieces and Nephews.

Mr. Jose David Roque, 50, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at a Pensacola hospital.
Mr. Roque was a native of Galveston, TX, a former resident of Jacksonville, FL for many years and a resident of Jay, FL for the past 5 months. He was a professional landscaper, enjoyed the outdoors and attended the Catholic Church.

Ervie S Bray, age 84 walked into the arms of her Heavenly Father on May 27, 2010. Her loving husband of 35 years, James Howard Bray, was there to welcome her.
She is preceeded in death by her father John Sellers, her mother Ruby Sellers, two brothers Rayford & Charles Sellers, and a sister Atha Hale. She is a native of Monroe County Alabama and a resident of Atmore, AL. She was a member of First Assembly of God of Atmore. She was retired from Vanity Fair.
She is survived by 2 daughters Celene (Pete) Mcghee of Nokomis,AL, Gina (steve) Harrison of Atmore, AL, 5 grandchildren, Keith Griffith, Shawn Brown, Robby Brown, Shaina Brown, and Heather Harrison and three great grandchildren, A brother Archie (Cleo) Sellers of Atmore, A special niece, Vickie Carrie of Atmore and numerous other nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening May 29, 2010, at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Sunday May 30, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with burial following in Oakhill Cemetary, Brother Richard Daniels officiating. Pallbearers will be Keith Griffith, Shawn Brown, Robby Brown, Buddy Carrier, Randy Ingram, & Bo Ingram.

Earl “Fred” Jordan

In loving memory, Earl “Fred” Jordan, 68, lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bernice Jordan and brother Richard. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Linda, son Frank (Kat) Jordan of Sampson, Al, son Dale (Jenny) Asberry of Molino, Florida, brother Ronnie (Linda) Jordan of Pace, Florida and many other family and friends as well as his church family.
Fred retired from the Escambia County school system as a diesel mechanic after 33 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Bluff Springs for 13 years. His first love was God. Fred loved to help people who were in need. He also enjoyed watching car races and fishing.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am, Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment until services begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Kevin Hasty and Pastor James Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery in Chumuckla, Florida .Timmy Pugh, Mickey Pariman, Robert Craddle, Kevin Joiner, Steve Plant and Wayne Pugh will serve as pallbearers. The men’s Sunday school class of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers and kindness shown during this difficult time. A special thank you goes out to Covenant Hospice of Santa Rosa County and Century Care Center.

Mr. Clarence W. Phillips, 75, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010 at a Pensacola, FL hospital.
Mr. Phillips was a native and resident of Walnut Hill, FL for most of his life. He was retired from the U.S. Marines after 21 years, a Veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War and attended the Bratt Assembly of God Church. Preceded in death by a Brother, Willard Phillips and a Sister, Merlene Sowell.
Survivors include: his Wife Louise Phillips of Walnut Hill, FL; his Son, Jerry D. and Kathryn Phillips of Tallahassee, FL; 2 Grandchildren, Matthew J. Phillips and Trevor L. Phillips; two Brothers, Lindy Phillips of Davisville, FL, and D.L.
