James C. Darby

Mr. James C. Darby, 91, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2010, in McDavid.

Mr. Darby was a native of Uriah, AL, and a resident of McDavid since 1947. He was a veteran and POW of WWII and attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Ray Darby, Sr.; a granddaughter, Tracey Simmons; his parents, Jeff and Ada Darby; a sister, Verna Mae Simmons, and a brother, Dovard Darby.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lois Darby of McDavid; a son, James R. and Nancy Darby, Sr. of McDavid; a daughter, Edna Darby of McDavid; six grandchildren, Jamie and Janine Darby of Lebonon, IL, Kevin and Pam Darby of Herndon, VA, Donald Darby, Jr. of New Orleans, LA, Dana and Doodle Langhorne of McDavid, Deneen and Mike Brazel of Pensacola and Darla and Doug Coburn of Byrneville; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Emma Lee Newton and Elsie Word, both of McDavid.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Hasty and the Rev. Doug Coburn officiating.

Burial will follow at Crary Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be his great-grandsons.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 4 between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.

Mattie Elizabeth Armstrong

Mrs. Mattie Elizabeth Armstrong, 79, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at a Santa Rosa County hospital.

Mrs. Armstrong was a native of Lockhart, AL, a resident of Byrneville, FL, since 1949, a member of Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church and was very devoted to her family.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Herman Armstrong of Byrneville; a son, Lawrence William “Dick” and Gail Armstrong of Mexia, AL; a daughter, Betty Ann and Louis Tharp of Byrneville; two grandchildren, Brandon Armstrong of Monroeville, AL and Kristi Johnson of Mexia, AL; and her dog Rowdy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Shelton Kindig and the Rev. Ronald Broadhead officiating. Burial will follow at Byrneville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 1, 2010, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Gary Bailey, John White, Levon Little, Johnny Tharp, Jonathan Tharp and Brandon Armstrong.

Coy E. Carter, Jr.

October 31, 2010

Coy E. Carter, Jr. age 62, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010. Mr. Carter was born in Walton County, Florida, on March 9, 1948. He retired from Solutia after nearly 43 years of employment. Mr. Carter was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his son, Coy E. ”Squirrel” Carter, III and his wife Beth; two granddaughters, Allie and Lacie Carter; and his mother, Grace Carter.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1 with Rev. Bill Hodge officiating.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Doug Tipton, Larry Dye, Oscar McNeil and Gene Barnett.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, November 1 from 5:00 p.m. until service time at 7:00 p.m.

The family request memorials may be made in Mr. Carters name to Covenant Hospice.

Jimmy Luther Bell

October 31, 2010

Jimmy Luther Bell, 72, of Atmore  died Friday October 29, 2010, in Atmore. He owned and operated Bell Ford Automotive in Atmore for 16 yeras. He was born at Bell Fork, AL on July 14, 1938, to the late Luther Clark and Clemmie Shanks Bell. He was an avid Nascar fan as well as a Auburn fan.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice H. Bell of Atmore; two daughters, Connie Bell Miller and husband, Andy of Denton, TX, and LaJuana Bell Bryars and husband Bo of Stockton, AL; three grandchildren, Zack Thomas, Camille Dortch and Alaina Miller; and  one great-grandchild, Adaline Dortch.

Services will be Monday November 1, 2010, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glenn Bryars officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday November 01  at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 12 noon until service time.  Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

William Edward Willett Jr.

Mr. William Edward Willett Jr., age 82 of Cottage Street in Century, passed away Tuesday evening October 26, 2010, at a Pensacola health care facility after an extended illness. Mr. Willett was a native and lifelong resident of Century and was a retired cost accountant with International Paper. He was a United States Navy veteran and attended the Faith Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Willett Richey of Gulf Breeze, Robin Willett (Ray) Helms of Milton; two sisters, Carolyn W Councell of Milton, Helen W Bowman of Century; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters Louise W Black and Loreen W Swick.

Visitation will be Thursday evening October 28, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Flomaton Brown-Service Funeral Home Inc.

Funeral services for Mr. William Edward Willet Jr., are scheduled for Friday morning October 29, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Flomaton Brown-Service Funeral Home Inc., with Rev. Robert Barrow and Rev. Gene Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Grace Hawkins McNaughton

Grace Hawkins McNaughton, 93, of Pensacola, Florida went home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2010. Grace was born on August 31, 1917 in Eros, LA. As a child she moved to Jay, Florida where she later graduated from Jay High School. After high school, she married and moved to Pensacola.

Grace retired from Federal Civil Service, Pensacola Naval Air Station where she was employed during World War II as one of the original “Rosie the Riveters.” After retirement, she became a member of the Beulah Homemaker’s Club where she enjoyed meeting and crafting with her friends. She and her husband Howard shared interests in travel, antiques and gardening. They treasured time with their family and friends and often entertained at their beach house in Navarre. Grace had an appreciation for the beauty of nature and was an animal advocate. Her grandchildren cherish the happy memories of farm life, summertime at the beach and long nature walks with their grandmother whom they affectionately called “Sweetie”. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, strength and wisdom.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John Howard McNaughton; parents, Lonnie and Jewel McPherson Hawkins and a brother, Joseph Mason, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Terry Oswald (Roland); a son, John Stephen McNaughton (Carol); five grandchildren, Sharron Grace DeWeese (Robert), Roland Oswald, Jr. (Sheila), Rebecca Ann Ciccarelli (Jim), Brody McNaughton (Missy) and Angela McNaughton-Matthews (Alan); twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 10:00 am at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Dixonville Community Cemetery, Dixonville, Alabama with Rev. Roy Chewning , Pastor of Gonzalez Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Allie Duke Campbell Beasley

Allie Duke Campbell Beasley, of Cantonment, Florida, entered into Eternal rest , Monday, October 25, 2010 at Century Care Center in Century, Florida.

Allie was born April, 13, 1917 in Allen Alabama, the daughter of Sim E. and Leslie C. (Ogwyn) Duke.

Allie was been a residence of the area since 1941, she was a active member of Gorzalez Baptist Church for many years. Allie retired from St. Regis Paper Company after working there for 20 dedicated years.

She was preceded in death by her husband’s Rober t C. Campbell and Otis C. Beasley, son: Vernon Campbell; daughter: Bette Aikin; three brothers; three sisters and one grandson.

Allie was survived by daughters: Joyce (Richard) Arnold, Sandra (Monte) Bullard, Bertha W illiams; sons: Robert (Anne) Campbell, Jerry Campbell, Larry (Suzanne) Campbell; son-in-law: James Aikin; sixteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Thursday, October, 28, 2010 at Eastern Gate Funeral Home, 1985 West Nine Mile Road, Pensacola 32534 Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, October 28 , 2010 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Spruell Cemetery in Cantonment.

Fannie Kate Reed

Fannie Kate Reed, age 84, of Cantonment, FL, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010.

She was born to Richard and Fannie Harrison on July 1, 1926 in Palmetto, GA and moved to Philadelphia, PA in 1940. A graduate of West Philadelphia High School and employee of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for 23 years, she relocated to Cantonment, FL in 1992 and joined Greater Mount Pleasant AME Church. In the late 1990s she moved membership to Bethel AME Church in Pensacola, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Reed, and two sons, Richard and Herbert, Jr.

Survivors include one son, Eugene (Jacqueline) Reed of Cantonment, FL; three grandchildren, Antoinette Reed, Atlanta, GA, Eugene Reed, Jr., Oceanside, CA, Levette Humprey, Collingdale, PA; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Toliver, Washington, D.C., Margaret Holmes and Mary Harrison, Atlanta, GA; one brother, John (Birdie Kate) Harrison, Atlanta, GA.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 11:30 am at Bethel AME Church with Dr. Carlton Taylor, pastor of Allen Chapel AME, officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Public viewing will be from 12 pm to 9 pm at Joe Morris & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 26, 2010.

Special thanks to Dr. George Antonious, Dr. Fernandn Kafie, the staff at West Florida DA-VITA and the Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice.

Mr. Wayne Douglas Johnson, 59, of Wayne Lane in Flomaton, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Johnson was a native and lifelong resident of Flomaton and was a field operator in the oil exploration industry. He was a member of the Osaka Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors including his parents, Rev. James C. & Lecia Mae Johnson of Flomaton; wife Barbara Johnson of Gulf Shores; two daughters, Kimberly Johnson of Honolulu, Tracy Johnson (Matt) Phillips of Fair Play, MO; two brothers, Jimmy (Susan) Johnson of Flomaton; Glen (Charlotte) Johnson of LaFayette, GA; sister Deborah (Joe) Golden of Flomaton; five grandchildren, Austin, Jonathan, Isaac, Ruby and Joshua Henry Phillips; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday evening October 24, 2010 ,from 6 until 8 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Wayne Douglas Johnson are scheduled for Monday morning October 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Johnson officiating. Interment will be private by the family and Flomaton Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Infant Amanda Nickole Lowery passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010, in Century. Amanda was a native and lifelong resident of Century, FL.

Survivors include her parents, Clint and Amanda Lowery of Century; a brother, Ethan Bingham of Century; a sister, Lexi Bingham of Century; grandparents, Johnny and Wanda Lowery of Century, and David and Angie Findley of Century; great grandmothers, Reather Lowery of Century, and Rachel Pritchett of Century; an aunt, Jennifer and Chris Read of Century; and an uncle, Blaine Findley of Century.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Salter officiating.
