Stephen Grant Jogan

Stephen Grant Jogan, Captain, United States Navy, Retired, age 70, passed away at his Barrineau Park home on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
Captain Jogan was born September 8, 1942, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. He graduated from Monmouth University in 1964 with a BA in Political Science. During his 27- year career as a Naval Flight Officer, he earned the following awards and decorations: Defense Superior Service Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (2), Humanitarian Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Navy “E” Ribbon; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He has over 250 combat support hours (Vietnam) and more than 250 carrier landings.
Captain Jogan proudly served his country aboard various naval facilities and ships: Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, NAS North Island (CA), NS Quonset Point (RI), NAS Pensacola (FL), Naval Station Jacksonville, (FL), NAS Norfolk, (VA) (twice), NS Dam Neck (VA), NAS Miramar(CA) ; USS Kearsarge (CVS 33), USS Wasp (CVS-18), USS Intrepid (CVS-11), USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42), and the USS America (CV-66). In 1981, he took command of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 117 which deployed aboard the USS Enterprise (CVA-65) from San Diego, CA. In 1985, Captain Jogan served as the Director, Joint Naval Applications Directorate (HQ USAFE/DON) and as the Officer in Charge, CINCUSNAVEUR Detachment, Ramstein AB, Germany. Captain Jogan retired in August of 1991.
After his retirement, Captain Jogan volunteered his time at the Barrineau Park Historical Society and Community Center, the Barrineau Park Elementary School, and served as lector at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church and held several offices on the Parish Council.
Captain Jogan was preceded in death by his parents, Helen (Borkowski) and Stephen Jogan. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gina (Venettozzi) Jogan; two children, Christina (Alvin) Joseph and John (Stephanie) Jogan; five grandchildren Ashley Jogan, Ryan Joseph, Madison Jogan, Grant Jogan, Milo Jogan, and great grand-son, Reese Jogan; his sister, Brenda Jogan and brother Robert (Doreen) Jogan and eight nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday April 17, 2013, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (Hwy 196-W Barrineau Park Rd). Internment, with military honors, will be at 2 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard NAS Pensacola. Trahan Family Funeral Home, 430 Beverly Parkway is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Louise Milligan

Mary Louise Milligan, 89, of Pensacola, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013.
She was born in Ellisville, MS, and retired from Monsanto. After her retirement, she was employed with Whales Dress Shop for many years. Mary loved to fish and spend time with her family. She was a member of Calvary Way Full Gospel Church.
Preceded in death are her husband, Allen Milligan; two brother and four sisters.
Survivors include her five children, Jean Murphy (Bill), James Hill (Sue), Patsy Akins, Mary Hill (Bobby Boatwright) and Billy J. Hill, Sr. (Deloris); 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Calvary Way Full Gospel Church with funeral services following at 1:00 pm with Reverend Carl Shiver, Reverend Jim Diamond and Reverend Mitch Turner officiating.
Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Dewey White, Brad Thompson, Terry McDaniel, Jerry McDaniel, Norman McDaniel, Terry Hill, Timmy McDaniel, Johnny Hill, Steven Hill and Tim Ryan.

Leatrece Jeanette Nall Wolske

Leatrece Jeanette Nall Wolske surely went singing into God’s home of eternal love and grace on April 6, 2013, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Born July 9, 1925, in Atmore, she was one of five children and the youngest daughter of Stephen C. and Florence E. Nall. She grew up and lived in the Bellview area of Pensacola, where she completed Tate High School and was an active member of Bellview Baptist Church, its choir and programs for many years.
Leatrece had a beautiful talent for engaging and entrusting herself to people wherever she lived. Throughout her life she developed many caring, devoted and loving friendships. She was one of the beautiful flowers along life’s path that brought joy to each heart that she touched.
Late in life she married Leonard Wolske and moved to Cary, Illinois. After her husband’s death, she moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, where she lived near her sister for many years. She was a well-loved and faithful childrens’ helper and door greeter of Faith Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.
In her last years, she valiantly struggled with the increasingly debilitating symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, from which she succumbed.
She is survived by her sister, Eleanor and her brother, Stephen and a loving bunch of nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas on Thursday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m.

Elizabeth P. Morrow, 75 of Atmore, passed away Tuesday April 16, 2013, at her residence. She was a homemaker, born in Robinsonville, AL, on March 24, 1938, to the late Albert and Minnie Thompson Philyaw, Sr.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Morrow.
She is survived by two sons, David (Lisa) Morrow and Mark Morrow and one daughter, Shirley (Michael) Boatwright, all of Atmore; two grandchildren, Brianna Morrow and Barret Matthew Boatwright; one brother, Albert (Venetia) Philyaw, Jr. of Booneville, AL; and six sisters, Betty (Jack) Sharpless, Virgie Gohagin, Willie Mae (Larry) Shiver, Elaine (Billy) Morgan, Alice (James) Hall and Jannie (Don) Boutwell of Atmore.
Services will be Thursday April 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leo Luker, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Wednesday evening April 17, 2013, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.
Clifton Franklin Jerkins

Mr. Clifton Franklin Jerkins, 73, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013, in Pensacola.
Mr. Jerkins was a native of Little Rock, Ala., former resident of Pensacola, and a resident of Elsanor, Ala., since 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Hanks Jerkins of Elsanor; five sons, Dean Jerkins of Atmore, John Key of Palatka, FL, Jack Key of Pensacola, Joe Key of Robertsdale, and James Key of Robertsdale; two daughters, Denise Tillman of Elsanor and Janice Mathis of Robertsdale; and sixteen grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel with Rev. Gary Fox officiating.
Burial will follow at the Christian Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 16, 2013, from 1 p.m. until service time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Dean Jerkins, John Key, Jack Key, Joe Key, James Key and Matt Tillman.

Janice Lynette Neal

Janice Lynette Neal went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, April 12, 2013. She was born on March 24 1935, in Perdido. She moved to Cantonment when she was 17. She retired from Barnes Supermarket after many years of faithful service.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Billy) Neal; parents, Clyde and Allie Parker; daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Neal; two brothers, Ray and Henry Parker; and sister, Mildred Bryars.
She is survived by her son, William (Bill) Neal Jr. and wife Sheila; two grandsons, Adam White, and Scott Neal; sister, Marvell Booker and husband, JC; and many nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Faith Chapel North Funeral Home.
Funeral services will Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Drayton Smith officiating services. Burial will follow at Cottage Hill Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Neal, David and James Allen, Edgar and Randy Neal and James Wiggins.

Eva Joyce Crawley Harris, 78 of Milton passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013.
Joyce was born on April 23, 1934, in Century Hospital in Century
Joyce married Bennie Joe Harris on December 18, 1952. They were married until his death in November 9, 1996.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, Bascom Crawley and Pearl Jeanette Smith Crawley; brother, Winfred “Buddy” Crawley; husband, Bennie Joe Harris; grandson, David Scott Richardson, Jr. Joyce is survived by her children, Delores “Dee Dee” (Ronald) Cantrell, Claude “CB” Blant Harris, Benjamin “Benji” Joel Harris, Shon David (Wanda) Harris, John Davis Harris, Charles “Chuckie” Bascom Harris; special granddaughter, Jennifer Petitt; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel with Rev. Terry Martin, officiating. Burial to follow in Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Katherine Brantley Rogers, 87 of Perdido, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013, in Atmore. She was born August 27, 1925, to the late Daisey and Adele Evers Brantley. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Perdido United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugo H. Rogers, Sr.; and three brothers.
She is survived by three sons, Hugo H. (Crystal) Rogers, Jr. of Goldhill, AL, H. Norman (Sheila) Rogers of Atmore, and Tolbert B. (Deborah) Rogers of Atmore; two daughters, Barbara (Larry) McCoy of Atmore, and Rosemary Rogers (Larry) Grass of Silver Hill, AL; grandchildren, Hannah Rogers, Hiram Rogers, Spencer Rogers, Austin Rogers, Ross McCoy, Katherine McCoy (James) Bell and Peggy Grass.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Perdido United Methodist Church with Rev. Gerald C. “Judd” Coggin officiating. Burial will follow in Sullivan Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 14, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Gaylen Lee Phillips

Gaylen Lee Phillips, 66, passed away April 8, 2013 from complications as a result of back surgery. Although he had several previous back surgeries, he thought this one would cure his pain. He is now free from the pain that had been his constant companion for decades.
Gaylen was born in Century, Florida and resided most of his life in Pensacola. His career started in the transportation industry where he was in management. Later he became a successful mortgage banker holding top production awards for the State of Florida with Norwest Mortgage. He had a winning personality and made everyone he talked to feel special. He graduated from Escambia High School and PJC. He also attended UWF and the University of Houston.
Gaylen was married to Kathy for over 30 years. He was predeceased by his father, Willard Phillips and his mother, Eunivay Grant.
Survivors include Jason Phillips of New York, Lori Christianson (Ben) of Gulf Breeze, Laura Young (Scott) of Lillian, AL; grandsons, Cody Luker and Jack Christianson; sisters, Glenda Gamez (Danny) and Gwynn Barbour.
Gaylen was raised in the Assemblies of God Church, but when he and Kathy married, he converted to Methodist. They were members of Pine Forest Methodist Church for 20 years before moving membership to First United Methodist Church.
Special thanks is given to his sister-in-law, Annette Fortney for her devotion and assistance during his last days.
Funeral service will be Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, 1000 Hwy 29S, Cantonment, FL. Visitation will be Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Reverend Danny Reese McAlister

Reverend Danny Reese McAlister ,71, passed away on April 8, 2013, at his home in Ripley, Mississippi. Rev. Danny McAlister was born on January 25, 1942, to Albert Reese and Bessie Mae Wallis McAlister in New Albany, Mississippi. He had been a minister for over 59 years, Preaching his first sermon at 12 years of age. He pastored churches in Mississippi, Illinois and Florida. He was the pastor of Beulah Baptist Church in the late 1980’s. With his wife and family, he traveled over the United States singing and recording gospel music. For the past 15 years, he had battled numerous health issues.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Otterson McAlister of Ripley, Mississippi; one son, Danny McAlister, Jr. (Barbara) of Springfield, Missouri; two daughters, Cheryl Jackson (Charles) of Ripley, Mississippi; Lora Minton (J.T.) of Pensacola; two brothers, Jimmy McAlister (Paulette), Larry McAlister (Doris) all of Ripley, Mississippi; three sisters, Nellie Gandy of Memphis, Tennessee, Linda Grisham (Dennis) of Dumas, Mississippi, Shelia South (Sam) of Ripley, Mississippi; nine grandchildren, Rickey Bryant, Jr., Lucas Bryant, Tyler Bryant all of Ripley, Mississippi, Michael Mitchell, Donald Mitchell (Courtney) and Sara Mitchell all of Pensacola, Mandy Wiener (Charles), Heather Loyd (Adam), Dannielle Spaulding (Jacob) all of Memphis, Tennessee and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister,Sarah Ward and one grandson, Jacob Bryant.
