Glenn “Buddy” Hadley

Glenn “Buddy” Hadley, 68 of Perdido, AL, passed away Thursdaym February 28, 2013, in Mobile. He was retired from Standard Furniture, born in Lottie, AL, on June 03, 1944, to Doil and Sadie Hall Hadley. He was a member of the Lottie Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, Doil Hadley.
Survivors are gis wife, Pearl Lore Eddins Hadley; his Mother, Sadie Hadley Johnson both of Perdido; two brothers, Dallas Hadley of Perdido and Larry Hadley of Atmore; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday March 5, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the Atmore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Chris Pruitt and Rev. Henry Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Brown’s Cemetery in Perdido.
Family will receive friends, Tuesday March 5, 2013, at Atmore Memorial Chapel from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home and Atmore Memorial Chapel are charge of all arrangements.

Betty Annette Flowers Merrill Norris, 74 of Atmore, passed away March 1, 2013.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 10 a.m. from the Atmore First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Mothershed Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore.
Steve Mattox

Steve Mattox, age 61, of Cantonment, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013.
Steve was a native of California and resided in Pensacola most of his life where he graduated from Woodham High School, attended Pensacola Junior College and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Florida. He was retired from Solutia after 14 years. Steve loved hunting, the outdoors and his John Deere tractor. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
Preceding Steve in death are his father, Dan M. Mattox; mother, Helen Loraine (Hazelbaker) Mattox; father-in-law, Edward Beasley, and sister-in-law, Kathy Beasley.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Karen (Beasley) Mattox; mother-in-law, Irma Beasley; loving aunts, uncles and caring cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, March 1, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

James R. “Jimmy” Wright

James R. “Jimmy” Wright, age 72, of Cantonment, passed away on February 25, 2013, at The Villas in Gulf Breeze.
Jimmy was a member of Gonzalez Baptist Church in Gonzalez, FL and retired from Monsanto (Solutia) after 41 years of service. He was a graduate of Tate High School.
Jimmy passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Bonifay, FL and lived in Cantonment all his life. He coached Little League football and baseball in his early years and loved sports and fishing most of all. He also loved woodworking and playing his harmonica.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Nolda Wright and one son, Scott Allen Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda, and their three daughters, Sherrie Cahoon (Jodie) of Tallahassee, Vickie Wright (Brian Caton), and Deitri Dorion (Mike) of Cantonment & Pensacola; five grandchildren, Desta and Scott Cahoon of Tallahassee, Kayla, Mallory and Lily Dorion of Cantonment; two sisters, Pat Benson (Jim) of Clarksville, GA and Claudette White (Hugh) of Warrenton, MO; two brothers, Ronnie Wright (Gina) of Robertsdale and Mike Wright (Linda) of Alexandria, LA; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 28, 2013, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with services starting at 2 p.m. with Brother Roy Chewning officiating.
The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of The Villas and Covenant Hospice who so lovingly took care of Jimmy during his stay there along with his special caregivers at Creekside Senior Living.

Margaret Huey Carden

Margaret Huey Carden, age 83, of Jay, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. She was born in Alabama on January 3, 1930. Margaret lived the early part of her life in Marion, Alabama where she married Eugene Joseph Adams and had two daughters, Beverly Jean and Patricia Carol. He passed away in March of 1959. In her later years, she married Herbert Wayne Huey and moved to Milton, where she worked as a director of Daycare for First Baptist Church in Milton for many years. After the death of her late husband Wayne Huey, in 1992, she moved to Jay to live near her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Mae Johnson.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Grady Carden; two daughters, Beverly Field of Pace and Patsy (Michael) Scott of Jay; sister, Jessie Mae Adams of Jay; five granddaughters, Kelly (Steven) Dee of Omaha, Nebraska, Kara (Alan) Ritchie of Pace, Sunny (Kevin) Ricks of Pace, Micah Scott of Jay, and Ashley (Shane) Buckley of Jay; nine great-grandchildren, Andrew and Nikolas Dee, Truitt and Allison Ritchie, McKinley and Tucker Ricks, Mical Owens, Aiden and Easton Buckley; step-daughter, Toni Carden Grissett; three step-grandchildren, Candace (Jeff) Lee, Tyler and Skyler Grissett and two step great-grandchildren, Breanna and Chloe Lee.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 5 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Berrydale Baptist Church with Brother Robert Gandy officiating. Burial will follow at Berrydale Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Carol J. Hall, 69, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013, in Mobile.
Mrs. Hall was a native of Uriah, former resident of Bay Minette, and has resided in Mobile for the past seven years. Mrs. Hall was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hall.
Survivors include two sons, Steve (Sandra) Harville of Rabun and Johnny (Tina Mooney) Combs of Perdido; two daughters, Rita Faye (William) Standifer of Century and Ginger Marston of Mobile; one brother, Ronnie Freeman of Carrolton, GA; one sister, Shelia Lassitter of Uriah; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Gibbs officiating.
Burial will follow at the Semiarh Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, March1, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Charles Albert Dean

Mr. Charles Albert Dean, age 85, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013, at home with his family. He was a life-long resident of Lottie, where he was born on Nov. 4, 1927. Albert served in the U.S. Navy as Seaman Apprentice aboard the USS HELENA (1948-1949) and the USS DE HAVEN (1949-1950), and was enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves (1950-1954). He was a Baldwin County farmer and an auto and bus mechanic, retiring as shop foreman from the Baldwin County public school transportation department in 1994. Albert was known for his lively sense of humor and his strong work ethic. He was a good friend with a kind heart. A loving husband, a sweet father, he was devoted to his family who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David E. Dean, Sr., (Willie); and his siblings and their spouses, Frank Dean (Ola); Herbert Dean (Estelle); Ruby Hayles (Otis); Myrtle Shiver, and Claude E. Dean, Sr.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Jean (Dannelly) Dean; four daughters, Gwen Myers (Scott) of Beaufort, S.C., Mary Kate Dean of Fairhope, Carla Wasdin (Al) of Lottie and Glenda Dean of Montgomery; one brother, David E. Dean, Jr., (Majorie) of Lottie; four grandchildren, Kyle and Burt Wasdin, and Nicholas and Olivia Myers; brothers-in-law, John Shiver, Jr. of Atmore, and Travis Dannelley of Eight Mile; other sisters-in-law, Cleo Dean Gwaltney of Silverhill and Peggy Dannelly of Spanish Fort; and many cherished nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. from the Lottie Methodist Church with Rev. Cindy Still officiating. Burial will follow at the New Home Cemetery in Lottie.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

John Byard Swift

John Byard Swift, Jr., of Atmore, departed this life on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Byard Swift, Sr., Anna Mallett Swift and his loving wife of 55 years, Helen Dauphin Swift. He is survived by sons John Byard Swift, III (Kathy), David Dauphin Swift, Sr. (Ida), Thomas Mallett Swift, brother Claude S. Swift (Pat), grandchildren Ida Ross Hicks (Brad), David Dauphin Swift, Jr. (Laurie), great grandchildren Jack Hicks, Amelia Hicks, Mary Helen Swift, and devoted companion, friend and partner Nell Wiggins.
He was born in Jackson, MS in 1923. While studying at Georgia Tech he entered the U.S. Navy and was Commander of a LCI ship assigned to the Asia Theater. Upon completion of an electrical engineering degree at Georgia Tech, he worked for a brief period at Louisville Power & Light in Louisville, KY. He returned to Atmore in 1949 to manage Swift Hunter Lumber Company and in 1954 formed Swift Lumber Company with his cousin Robin Swift. The company continues today with a nearly 200 year history in the southern forest products industry. Multiple other entities were started including Swift Supply, Inc., an area building supplier. He was active in the Atmore Lions Club for 64 years, and recipient of their Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
He served on the board of the Gulf Coast Council of the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded scouting’s highest award, the Silver Beaver as well their Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a past member of the Atmore City Council and past president of the Alabama Forestry Association. He was the past Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau as well as the past president of the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce and recipient of their Lifetime Achievement Award. He served over 50 years on the board of the Bank of Atmore (United Bank) and served as that institution’s co-chairman. In the early 1980’s he founded the Anglican Church of Atmore and subsequently oversaw the construction of a new facility. He was instrumental in the Atmore VFW acquiring and renovating its present facility. He was a longtime member of the Atmore Historical Society and active in numerous lumber industry associations.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 26th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m.at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Atmore.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gulf Coast Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Atmore Historical Society, Wilmer Hall in Mobile, or the VFW organization of Atmore.
John H. Holman, Jr.

John H. Holman, Jr., a native of Pensacola and now a resident of Seminole, AL, since 1998, died February 20, 2013, at his home.
John was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was in the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. He worked at St. Regis, Champion and now International Paper Company in Cantonment for 44 years. John was an active member at the Three Rivers Baptist Church in Seminole, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Holman; a sister, Ethel McGhee and a nephew, Larry Hicks.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Carlson (Carl) and Dot Lane (Rocky); two sisters, Doris Hicks (Ken) and Helen McCrory (Bodie, deceased); nieces, Susan Simpson, Tracy Council, Cindy Hicks and nephews, Ken Hicks, Michael Hicks; an ex-wife, Lorraine Holman and her three daughters, Kathy (Rick) Pridgen, Sheila (Lu) Vic and Brenda Kassab.
A visitation will be held at noon Monday, February 25, 2013, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home until services begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dan Lowery officiating.
Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Jacquelyn G. Catches

Jacquelyn G. Catches was born in Montgomery, AL, on January 3, 1932, and passed away peacefully on Saturday February 16, 2013, after a brief fight with cancer.
Jackie spent 40 years doing the work she loved as an RN and teacher in the health care field. She loved helping others in both her professional and personal life. She was an active member of the Artist Guild in Pensacola and produced many beautiful works of art. She was also very active in keeping the members of her 1949 Pensacola High School Class in touch over the years. Jackie was looking forward to her annual trip to the Florida Folk Festival on Memorial Day weekend where for many years she has been in the center of a wonderful community of musicians and musical instrument crafters from throughout Florida. Her love and kindness will live on Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Lyman and Alice Goodnight; brother, Evan (Ruth) Goodnight; sister, Beverly Seifert and a son, Joseph E. Catches.
She is survived by her sons; John (Moira) Catches of Ponte Vedra Beach FL, James (Rita) Catches of Pensacola; daughter, Jennifer (David) Holmes of Pace; sister, Geraldyn (Ralph) Silva of Cantonment; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many close friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 303 Rocky Ave., Cantonment, with Father George officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
