Darrell Steege

Darrell Steege, 51, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born April 21, 1962, in Atmore, he was the son of Oleda Steege and the late Teddy Steege.

On June 27, 1992, he married the love of his life and soul mate, Evelyn Steege. The two shared a blessed union of 21 years together.

Darrell was a member of Mountain View Mennonite Church. As a church member, he had previously been active in supporting the youth and teaching Sunday school. Darrell was employed by Stuarts Draft High School, where he taught agriculture. Before teaching at Stuarts Draft, he had the opportunity to teach many area children at Northview High School in Bratt, along with Wilson, Buffalo Gap, and Chatham schools. His love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing particularly, led him to be active in Young Farmer, Shenandoah Valley Bass, Fishers of Men and FFA-Alumni. Always giving of his time, Darrell never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Darrell will be remembered by those who knew him as a cherished husband, beloved father and brother, and special friend who had a wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his two daughters, Nicole and Alexandra Steege; granddaughter, Kaelyn Steege; siblings, Arlene Mack and husband, Phil, Gerald Steege and wife, Sudie, and Rene Bunch; as well as many close friends.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Mountain View Mennonite Church, with Pastor Earl Monroe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be James Wenger, Dick Taylor, Zane Taylor, Barry Gray, Matt Haskins, Doug Ramsey and Papa Joe Arbaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Steege, Paul Grekos, Rick Shiflet and Joe Roberson.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway.

Bernice Barfield

Bernice Barfield, age 85, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at the Homestead Village in Pensacola.

Mrs. Barfield was a life long resident of Bratt  and longtime member of Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church.  She was a homemaker and a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Murdick; her sisters,Agnes Peacock and Ernestine Hayes; brothers Verl Pickern, Boots Pickern, Ellyn Rigby and Buddy Rigby.

She is survived by her son Don (Lillian) Barfield of Pensacola; her daughter Diane (Wayne) Baker of Bratt; one sister Tiny Bolton; two brothers Roy Rigby and Dallas Rigby; four grandchildren Miranda Brooks, Scott Baker, Stephanie Lamar, and Jessica Barfield; six great-grandchildren Tyler Brooks, Tanner Brooks, Taylor Baker, Jack Lamar, Kelton Wooten and Brandy Wooten; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at Faith Chapel North with Reverend Gene Pickern officiating.  Interment will follow in the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until service time.

Serving, as pallbearers will be Scott Baker, Malcolm Peacock, Terry Bolton, David Brown, Perry Brewton and Kelton Wooten.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola.

The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers at Homestead Village and Covenant Hospice of Pensacola.

Julian Blake Lamb

Mr. Julian Blake Lamb, 75, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in Pensacola.

Mr. Lamb was a native of Molino and a resident of Pensacola. Mr. Lamb attended the Highland Baptist Church.

He is survived by three brothers, Chase Lamb of Seale, AL, Phillip Lamb of Bay Minette, AL and Larry Meacham of Molino;  and one sister, Willie B. Lamb Halbert of Black Mountain, NC.

Graveside services will be Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery in Molino with the Bro. Tim Adams officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013, from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.

Mildred ‘Murray’ Mooney

Mrs. Mildred “Murray” Mooney, 81, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Cantonment.

Mrs. Mooney was a native of Century and a former resident of Bratt and has resided in Cantonment, for the past two years. Her sister, Willie Mae Childress, preceded Mrs. Mooney in death.

Survivors include her son, Ricky (Alice) Mooney of Frisco City, AL; two daughters, Linda Gail (Reggie) Morgan of Bay Minette, AL, and Betty Ann Dickman of Cantonment,; one brother, Rupard Murray of Bluff Springs; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Willis officiating.

Burial will follow at the Little Escambia Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m.. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Joe Cox, Jr.

Mr. Joe Cox, Jr., 61, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Perdido, Alabama.

Mr. Cox was a native of Fairhope, former resident of Bay Minette and has resided in Perdido for the past 27 years.

He is survived by his mother, Doris Dornquast of Perdido; wife, Patricia Cox of Perdido; four sons, Jeremy R. (Trisha) Cox of Perdido, Hubert (Jennifer) Parker of Spanish Fort, Dale (Kristie) Parker of Camden, AL, and Leon Parker of Bay Minette; two Daughters, Jodi (Dale) Robison of Perdido, and Cathy (Derek) Larkin of Perdido; one sister, Carolyn Wilson of Perdido and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 12, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Harrison Steege officiating.

Burial will follow at the Perdido Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2013, from 1:30 p.m. until funeral time at 3:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Roger Hadley, Ronnie Hadley, Ray McDuffie Jr., W.C. Gafford, Wendell Kast and Jamie Phillips.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray McDuffie, Sr, Donnie Kast and Marvin Havard.

Russell Eugene Hall

Russell Eugene Hall, age 85, of Molino, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013. He was a member of American Legion. He served his country in the United States Navy. He then worked at St. Regis Paper Company before he became an International Union Representative with the United Paper Workers Union until his retirement in 1998. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt Hall, Sr. and Mamie Agerton Hall; brothers, Elmer Hall and Dewitt T. Hall, Jr.; and sister, Violet Allen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Carol C. Hall; son, Glynn Hall (Joyce); three granddaughters, Charla Hall-Alvarado (Leonzo), Lacy Smith and Christina Smyth (Josh); eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2013, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with a visitation one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Oakgrove Cemetery in Oakgrove.

Edward Joseph “Joey” Allen

Mr. Edward Joseph “Joey” Allen, 25, of McGougin Road in Brewton, Alabama, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, after injuries sustained in a automobile accident. He was a native of Mobile and a life long resident of Brewton. Mr. Allen was member the L Pond Church of Christ. He was a graduate of W.S. Neal High School and was employed as a cook at Donut Delight.

Survivors include his father, Earl Allen of Mobile; mother, Robin Allen of Brewton; brother, Morgan Allen of Brewton; sister, Virginia Allen of Mobile and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, July 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Minister Steve Parker officiating.

Interment will follow in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton.

Jerald “Jerry” Buck

Mr. Jerald “Jerry” Buck, 73, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013, in Nokomis, AL.

Mr. Buck was a native of McCullough, former resident of Lottie, and had resided in Nokomis since 1984. Mr. Buck was retired from International Paper Company in Mobile after 40 years of service. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Annice Buck; son, Timothy Buck; parents, Ed and Letha Buck; and one brother, Murray Buck.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Mary Buck of Nokomis; three sons, Jeffrey Buck of Birmingham, Ashley (Cassie) Buck of Nokomis, and John (Joei) Buck of Bay Minette; one stepson, Ryan Curenton of Meridian, MS; two stepdaughters, Joyce Petty of Nokomis, and Mary (Doug) McKee of Meridian, MS; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Hall officiating.

Burial will follow at the McCullough Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 9, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tim Lassister, Jason Morris, Doug McKee, Robert Wooten, Shane Rolin, Ryan Currenton and Manny Karvelas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Winston Bryan, Bennie Biggs, Runt Bryan, Pete Powell, Billy Rolin and Dennis Moye.

Miriam Frances Hudgens Ingram

Miriam Frances Hudgens Ingram, 76, of Jay passed away July 6, 2013. She was a long time member of Jay United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Sam Hudgens Sr. and Mrs. Ruth Frances Hudgens; brother Sam Hudgens, Jr. and sister Betty Nichols.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years Robert H. Ingram; son, Terry Ingram (Carol); daughter, Cynthia Ingram Salter (Kenny); four grandsons, Greg Ingram (Laura), Michael Ingram (Dana), Zach Tebbetts and Josh Tebbetts; and sister Louisa Watson (Earl) and many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Monday, July 8, at Jay Funeral Home in Jay. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, with Rev. Laura Weant and Rev. Earl Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Jay cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home in Milton. Contributions may be made through Jay United Methodist Church.

Joe S. Cardwell

Joe S. Cardwell, 66, of Pensacola, passed away June 27, 2013, with his family by his side. Joe was born September 8, 1946, in Montgomery to Joseph and Alice Cardwell. Joe married his wife Theresa on June 3, 1967, and the two relocated to Pensacola shortly after. He was a graduate of Troy State University where he earned a Bachelor of Accounting and M.S. & PhD in Criminal Justice. Joe worked for the Escambia County Sherriff’s Office for over 20 years until he was forced to retire due to being injured in the line of duty. Joe was also an avid saltwater fisherman.

Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Theresa, of Pensacola; his daughter, Cassandra (Eric) Allen of Cantonment; three grandchildren, Carley, CariAnn, and Jaxon; brother-in-law, Steve (Jamie) Stephens of Wetumpka, AL; and two nephews, Seth (Nikki) Stephens and Cameron Stephens, both of Wetumpka. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alice Cardwell of Montgomery; and father and mother-in-law, Sam and Gussie Stephens of Montgomery, AL.

Services for Mr. Cardwell will be held Sunday, July 7, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Pensacola. Services will begin at 1 p.m., followed by visitation and reception at 2 p.m. Casual dress preferred. Interment will take place Monday, July 8, at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Wayne Barber, Preston Byrd, Randy Raborn, Cameron Stephens, Seth Stephens, and Bill Trawick.

Flowers are welcomed but donations to Covenant Hospice are also appreciated. The family of Mr. Cardwell would like extend special thanks to Wayne Barber for being such a wonderful caregiver to Joe during his recent illness. Also, special thanks to Drs. Carter, Gary, Erdos, and Wade and Baptist Hospital Pensacola’s ER & SINU staff for their wonderful care.
