Sandra Howard Elliott

Sandra Howard Elliott passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013. She was a Monsanto Area III DTO retiree. Sandra was a volunteer for the Council on Aging in Defuniak Springs. She bowled on a league at Liberty Lanes, enjoyed fishing, camping, riding motorcycles, and swimming and picnics at a local creek. She was an active member of the Argyle Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence J. Simmons; father, Amos Howard; husband, Aubrey G. Elliott; great-grandson, David Blake Hupp; brothers, Franklin Delanor “Sonny” Howard and Harley J. “Jimbo” Wilds and sister, Sylvia J. Wilds.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ann Glover (Robert Allan) and Barbara Lynn Horne (Norman G.); son, Steven Cecil Bodiford; grandkids, Janelle L. Kitts (Matthew), Josh Glover, Amanda Hupp, Blake Bodiford, Sylvia Golden (Scott) and Carol Howard (Justin); brothers, Amos J. “Boogie” Howard (Rose Marie), George B. Howard, Ronnie Johnson and Douglas E. “Eddie” Fludd; numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandkids.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 7, 2013, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Reverend James Burnham officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Delano Nunn

September 1, 2013

Delano Nunn, 76 of Milton, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013, in Pace. He was a supervisor with a furniture manufacturer, born in Escambia County (Fla.) on June 1,1937, to the late Marshall and Emma Morgan Nunn.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Woodrow Nunn.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Nunn of Pensacola and Christopher (Etelka) Nunn of Holland, MI; one daughter, Gayleen (Ed) Prieto of Riverside, CA; one sister, Annie Kathryn Jenkins of Mississippi; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two aunts, Ardiel Morgan and Maurine Gulsby.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 2 p.m.  in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating.

Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rodney Siewert

September 1, 2013

Mr. Rodney Siewert, 63, a native of Charleston, SC, and longtime resident of Pensacola, passed away August 30, 2013.

Mr. Siewert was employed as a plant mechanic at Baptist Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine.

A graveside service will be held Monday, September 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery in Pace.

Nellie Doris Hughes

Nellie Doris Hughes, 84, of Pensacola passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Mrs. Hughes was born in Century on June 23, 1929, and was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a member of Burgess Road Baptist Church and loved fishing, gardening, dining out and eating catfish, but most of all she loved family get-togethers.

Doris was preceded in death by her mother, father, a brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joesirah (Joe) Hughes; daughter, JoAnn Wiggins; son, William “Clay” Hughes (Jennifer); brothers, E. R. Garrett (Pat) and Robert E. Garrett (Sherry); sisters, Lucille Kilcrease (Lamar) and Joyce E. Blackmon (Skip); five grandchildren, Jr. Graham, Ginger Hughes, Tracey Hughes, JoLee Hughes and Sheela Brown; 11 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Visitation was held Friday, August 30, 201,  at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Burgess Road Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Cooley officiating. Interment will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery in Chumuckla.

Margaret White Barnhill

Mrs. Margaret “White” Barnhill, 91, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, in Atmore.

Mrs. Barnhill was a native of Nokomis (Ala) and has resided in Atmore for most of her life. She was a loving mother and attended the First Assembly of God Church. Her husband, Dewey Barnhill; son, Keith Barnhill; son-in-Law; Charles Peavy and great-grandson, Drew Marlow precede her in death.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie Barnhill of Nokomis; four daughters, Delores Peavy, Cynthia (Danny) Wilson and Beverly (Wayne) Harris all of Atmore and Denean (Daniel) Workman of Nokomis; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Atmore with Rev. Don Davis officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mothershed Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Riley Workman, Noah Workman, Mark Harrell, Shane Harrell, Craig Wilson, Chris Wilson and Josh Harris.

Walt Beckman

August 28, 2013

Walt Beckman, 80, a native of Pensacola passed away August 26, 2013. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years and served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He worked as a correctional officer with Escambia County for 15 years. In addition Walt worked as a volunteer firefighter with the Ensley Fire Department for 30 years. Walt originated the “Stop, Drop & Roll” for elementary students. He received the Heart of Gold Award for his outstanding service with the Ensley Volunteer Fire Department.

Walt was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many people. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and was a Dale Earnhardt fan. He was known as “Pickle PaPa” to his grand and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law and his brother.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Geneva Beckman; sons, Guy (Randy) Beckman, Mike (Jan) Beckman and Christopher (Frances) Beckman; daughters, Lois (David) Krause and Therese (Dana) Drexler; grandchildren, Joey Beckman, Randall (Shelbi) Beckman, Jessica (Jeff) Ealey, Amanda Beckman, Megan Beckman, Derek Beckman, Kristy and Amanda Lewis, Nina Krause, Shannon Jones and Jason (Brittany) Drexler; great-grandchildren, Addison Beckman, Brooke Ealey,Amber Ealey, Cohen Ealey, Landon Eldredge and Khloe Jones.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Thursday, August 29, 2013. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Father Francis officiating.

Interment will follow at Clopton Cemetery.

Carma Mae Bagwell

Infant Carma Mae Bagwell, tw0 months old, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Brewton.

Carma Mae Bagwell was a native and life long resident of East Brewton. She was a Little Angel called Home. Her great-grandfather, Charles Ladner and grandparents, Eloise Woods and Herbart Woods precede her in death.

Survivors include her father, Marcus Woods and mother, Lindsey Bagwell, both of East Brewton; one brother, Ryland Woods of East Brewton; five sisters, Desiray Bagwell of Century, Chloe Satterwhite, Calee Satterwhite, Haylee Wood sand Kylah Woods of East Brewton; grandparents, Tina Bankston of Flomaton and Rusty Bagwell of Flomaton; great-grandmother, Dottie Ladner of Century and special Nana, Cheryl Dykes of Century.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Colley officiating.

Burial will follow at the Happy Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Walter “Tom” Hall

August 27, 2013

Mr. Walter “Tom” Hall, 82, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Atmore.

Mr. Hall was a native of Bratt and a resident of Atmore since 1988. Mr. Hall attended the Canoe Baptist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Norma Grace Hall of Atmore; one brother, Allen Clark Hall of Atmore; one sister, Margaret Alice Bailey of Carlsbad, NM; caretaker, Susie Hall of Atmore; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Hall and Rev. Jake Bondurant officiating.

Burial was at the Pine Barren Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gwen Hendricks, James Scott II, Anthony Lamb, Richard Faircloth, Aaron Hall and Mike Smith.

Theresa “GiGi” Stephens Cardwell

Theresa Stephens Cardwell, 65, of Pensacola, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2013, with her family by her side.

Theresa was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1947. She was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High Class of 1966. She married Joe Cardwell on June 3, 1967, and relocated to Pensacola shortly thereafter. She was a dedicated employee of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department for 33 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted much of her time to her family. She was known as “GiGi” by her loved ones. She was a kind-hearted person and went above and beyond to give to others.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Joe S. Cardwell and her parents, Sam and Gussie Stephens.

She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra Allen and husband, Eric of Cantonment and their children, Carley, CariAnn, and Jaxon; brother, Steve Stephens and wife, Jamie of Wetumpka, AL; nephews, Seth Stephens and wife, Nikki and Cameron Stephens of Wetumpka.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Irene Bowker, Wayne Barber, Linda Brill and Sandra Hofer for their love, care and support. They would also like to thank Dr. Wade, Dr. Erdos and Covenant Hospice staff, Katie, Evelyn, Cathy and Jan.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. with the funeral service at 6 p.m.at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Thursday, August 29, 2013.

Interment will be at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery on Friday, August 30, 2013, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice in Theresa’s memory.

George Selton Brooks

August 27, 2013

Mr. George Selton Brooks, 59, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013, in Foley.

Mr. Brooks was a native of Pensacola, former resident of Bay Minettte and resided in Foley for the past 16 years. His parents, James and Lillian Brooks; two brothers, James Edward Brooks and Riley Sherman Brooks; and two sisters, Laura Jean Johnson and Mattie Sue Johnson precede him in death.

Survivors include his two brothers, Harrel Brooks of Pine Grove, AL and William Brooks of Luverne, AL; four sisters, Lillian Aline Hadley of Perdido, Flora Lee Hadley of Bay Minette, Mary Katherine Hadley of Fish River, AL and Tina Elaine Stringfellow of Pearl, MS.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Crook and Rev. Robert Lord officiating.

Burial was held at the Brooks Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lonnell Hadley, Charlie Synder, Dewayne Hadley, Anthony Hadley, Nickayiah Brooks, David Williams, Turner Brooks and Charles Boatwright.
