Kendra L. White

Kendra L. White age 26 of Jay, and formerly of Abilene, Texas, passed away on December 11, 2013. Kendra was very creative and had a kind heart. She loved her children and family unconditionally. Kendra was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to those that knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Daniel White; children, Libby Jean White and Hudson Drake White; mother, Linda (Billy) Griggs of Abilene; father, Tommy (Lori) Frymire of Abilene; two sisters, Kelli Sullivan of Tennessee and Abby Frymire of Abilene; three brothers, Chad (Monica) Frymire of Abilene, Jonas Griggs of Dallas, Texas and Justin (Misty) Griggs of San Angelo; grandparents, Jack (Betty) Carlson of New Mexico; special friends, Amanda Jessup Summit and Jessica Turner; mother-in-law, Pamela (Michael) Ivey; father-in-law, Robert (Robin) White; grandparents-in-law, Ben (Faye) Hudson; brothers-in-law, Nathan White and Ryan Ivey; sisters-in-law, Tarrah White, Jessica Ivey, and Tiana Ivey and other extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2013, from 6p.m.  until 9 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Jay Funeral Home with Brother Frederick Barrow officiating services.

Burial will follow at Berrydale Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Derek Smith, Nathan White, Jeffrey Bauldree, J.B. Hudson, Mason Hudson, and Miles Zimmerman.

Mary J. Hutto

December 9, 2013

Mrs. Mary J. Hutto, 89, of Buford, GA died suddenly on Friday, December 6, 2013.

Mrs. Hutto was born in Newton, MS and had lived in the Atlanta area the past 11 years. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church Buford. Mrs. Hutto was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Rev. William Vernon Hutto.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Karen Taylor Wilkins and husband, Steven of Buford, GA, Jennifer Lynn Sapp of Pensacola, Jonathan Mark Taylor of Las Vegas, NV; great-grandchildren, Kenneth Geral “DJ” DeBari, Jr. of Pensacola, Sarah Ashley Wilkins, James Alexander Wilkins, John Wesley Wilkins, Rebecca Elizabeth Wilkins and David Michael Wilkins all of Buford, GA, and Hailey Grant of Pensacola.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Byrneville Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Matt Stacy officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to your favorite charity.

Gertrude Childress

Gertrude Childress, 88 of Monroeville, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013, in Monroeville. She was a retired seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills, born in Atmore on December 27, 1924, to the late Henry Watterson and Ruby Bell Stanley. Mrs. Childress was a member of the First Baptist church of Atmore.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rhodie Childress.

Survivors include one son, Ralph Stan (Gloria) Childress of Tiger, Ga; two daughters, Cynthia (David) Huggins of Lake Village, Ark. and Rhonda (Keith) Cox of Little River; four brothers, Leonard (Katherine) Stanley and Cecil (Dobie) Stanley all of Atmore, Windom (Mildred) Stanley of Daphne and Aubrey (Mary Margaret) Stanley of Atmore; 11 grandchildren, Hedi Greene, Ryan Childress, Bryan Childress, Tiffany Davis, Stephen Childress, Michael Huggins, Jason Huggins, Suzanne White, Allison Cox, Kevin Houston and Scott Houston; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, December 6, 2013, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Ryan Childress, David Huggins, Keith Cox, Bud Cox, Bruce White, Michael Huggins, Justin Kendrick.

Honorary pallbearers are her brothers.

Columbus Ray Godwin

December 3, 2013

Columbus Ray Godwin, 67, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013, in a Mobile hospital.

Godwin was a native and lifelong resident of Flomaton. He owned and operated Godwin’s Florist in Atmore for a number of years. He was a member of McCullough Christian Center.

His parents, John Godwin and Mazie Evans Godwin Bradford, preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny (Kristy) Godwin of Damascus and Carl Franklin (Misti) Godwin of Brewton; one brother, Ronald (Betty) Godwin of Mobile; two sisters, Jeanette (Nelson) Bell of Flomaton, and Shelby Godwin Kelly of Brewton; a special friend, Chris Brown; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Griggs and the Rev. John Hodoh officiating. Interment followed in Pollard Cemetery.

Visitation was held before. service time Tuesday at Craver’s Funeral Home.

Columbus Ray Godwin

Mr. Columbus Ray Godwin, age 67, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013, in a Mobile hospital.

Mr. Godwin was a native and life long resident of Flomaton. He owned and operated Godwin’s Florist in Atmore for a number of years. He was a member of McCullough Christian Center. Mr. Godwin was preceded in death by his parents, John Godwin and Mazie Evans Godwin Bradford.

Elsie Mae Fillingim

Elsie Mae Fillingim, 83, of Molino,  passed away November 29, 2013.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim Fillingim; her father, Joel Yarber; her mother, Elizabeth Harrell Yarber; special sister, Evelyn Holsembeck; brother, Walker Yarber and grandson Jimmy Allen.

She will be greatly missed by her brother Charles; one son, Rickey and Liz Fillingim; four daughters, Mickey and Glenn Allen, JoAnn and Jim Catoe, Phyllis and Andy McDonald, Mary Jane and Larry King; grandchildren, Curtis, Denice, Keith, Kristie, Renea, Sidney, Kim, Ray, Lamar, Kaye, Matt and Ken; numerous great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Pallbearers will be Mark Daniel, Bubba Gulsby, Sidney Catoe, Howard Fillingim, Hubert Fillingim and Gary Diamond.

Special thanks to the staff of Santa Rosa Health and Rehabilitation who took such loving care of our mother in her final hours and Emerald Coast Hospice.

Family will receive friends at Faith Chapel North on Sunday, December 1, 2013  at 1:00 p.m. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Lathram Chapel Cemetery, 2690 Jacks Branch Rd with Pastor Pam Avery officiating.

Judy Marie Smith

Ms. Judy Marie Smith, age 57 of Flomaton, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013, in Flomaton.

Ms. Smith was a native of Century and a resident of the Century and Flomaton community the majority of her life coming from Hurley, MS. She had been an employee of the Food Giant in Century for years and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her father, Carl Turk of Hurley, MS; her mother, Marie Turk of Flomaton; sons, Michael (Sonja) Smith of East Brewton, Marcus (Vanessa) Smith of the McCall community and Timothy Nisewonger of Pensacola; brothers, Jesse Turk of Flomaton, John Turk of Hurley, MS and Jimmy (Tessa) Turk of Ocean Springs, MS; sister, Joana Turk of Hurley, MS; grandchildren, Brandon, Trevarly, Tristan, Taylor and Holliegh; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Wilson officiating.

Interment was in McCurdy Cemetery in Century.

Nelda Rice

Mrs. Nelda Rice, 59, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013, in Pensacola, Florida.

Mrs. Rice was a native of Perdido, former resident of Century and had resided in Walnut Hill for the past 12 years. Mrs. Rice was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and attended the Pine Barren Baptist Church. Her father, Douglas Smith, precedes her in death.

Survivors include her mother, Lavonah Pauline Smith of Bay Minette; her husband, R.C. Rice of Walnut Hill; one son, Timothy Cunningham of Pensacola; one step-son, Robert Charles Rice of Mississippi; two daughters, Wendy (Christopher) Jackson of Pensacola and April Johnson of Atmore; one step-daughter, Laura Rodriquez of North Carolina; one brother, Tony Smith of Bay Minette; one sister, Corrine Parrack of Bay Minette; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Harper, Rev. Robert Barrow and Rev. J.P. Lambert officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pine Barren Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, November 29, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Kinnard

November 28, 2013

Mary Lou Kinnard, was born May 13, 1911, in Gonzalez, Fla., and raised in Alabama. She graduated high school in Excel, Ala. After graduation Mary Lou entered nursing school at City Hospital in Mobile and graduated nursing school in 1934. She started her first nursing job in 1935 at Mercy Hospital in Alma, MI. Mary Lou married Clark Kinnard June 5, 1936, in Alma, MI. Later they retired to Wewahitchka, Fla., in 1969 and she retired from nursing in 1970. Mary Lou moved to Pensacola in 1981 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Clark Kinnard; three brothers and three sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her niece, Gloria Faye (Floyd) Cornett; other nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Olean West and Kathy Toepfer.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Reverend Sanford Stanton officiating.

Interment will take place immediately following at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola. Special thanks to the caregivers at Homestead Village Assisted Living for their loving care.

Melba Yvonne Kelly

November 28, 2013

Ms. Melba Yvonne Kelly, 76, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in Atmore.

Ms. Kelly was a native and lifelong resident of Bratt. Ms. Kelly was a Sunday school teacher, children’s church, organist and was retired from B.C. Moore. She was a member of the Bratt Assembly of God.

She is survived by her two brothers, Rev. Charles (Eloise) Kelly of Dunn, NC and Everette Sylvester (Wanda) Kelly of Bay Minette; four sisters, Katherine Cotton and Clara Franklin, both of Dothan, Alice Higginbothem of Pensacola and Lorine Elliot of Bratt; and number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Kelly and Rev. Theron Collingsworth officiating.

Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.
