Harley Walter Lister

Harley Walter Lister, 77, having lost his battle to cancer on April 19, 2014, entered into the presence of his Lord. He was born in Atmore in 1936, a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church since 1975, and a longtime resident of Mobile. He is preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Nettie Varnum Lister; siblings, Houston Lister, Beulah Lister Wickland, Arnold (Shag) Lister, Cindy Lister Mannson, Danny Edward Lister; and granddaughter, Metesha Lister.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Robbie Jean Lister; five children, Norma Jean Shepherd (Mike), Walter Raymond Lister (Jean), Deborah Lynn Murphy (Paul), Lori Ann Reid (Bobby), and Ronald Keith Lister; sister, Eula Wickland, Las Vegas, Nevada and brother, Wilber (Bill) Lister of Beecher City, IL; 14 grandchildren, Nevin Eckerman (Mandy), Nicklaus Eckerman(April), Haagon Lister(Kristy), Tiffany Lister(Zachary), Avery Lister, Robbie Lister, Ryan Lister(Amanda), Lynn Pugh(KJ), Joshua Murphy(Nicole), Jessie Murphy(Sandy), Judson Murphy, Michael Reid, Mark Reid, and Mason Lister; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Cantonment.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Marie Lister Steele

Mrs. Marie Lister Steele, age 82, of Flomaton passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Century Care Center.

Mrs. Steele was a native of Flomaton and a resident of the community for 40 years coming from Brewton. She was of the Holiness faith and worked as a weaver for Sheltex. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Steele; son, Douglas Wayne Steele; sister, Lula Courtney; two grandsons and one granddaughter.

She is survived by her sons, Randy (Judy) Steele, Wendell Steele and Harvey Steele, all of Flomaton; daughters, Margaret (Jerry) Morris of Brewton and Debbie (Rodney) Worrell of Evergreen; brother, Joe (Linda) Lister of Flomaton; sisters, Noralee (Charles) Lambeth and Thelma Arrant, both of Flomaton; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Home Cemetery in Flomaton.

Wanda Jeanette Wright

April 18, 2014

Wanda Jeanette Wright, 74, passed away on April 16, 2014.  She was born in Crestview on September 16, 1939, to Cortez and Lillie Mae Richardson.  She had resided in Molino since 1965.  She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Cantonment. She enjoyed League Bowling at Deluna Lanes, camping, fishing, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

Wanda was preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Mae Richardson.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Raymond Wright; children, Larry (Della) Wright, Sherry Mueller, Cathy (Thomas W.) Richardson and Daniel Wright; father, Cortez (Robbie) Richardson; three siblings, Thomas L. (Mildred) Richardson, Gene (Jenny) Richardson, Mary Ann (Everette) Brown; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Gwen Cook and Rita Danielson and three special pets, Sport, Daisy and Cricket.

Our thanks and appreciation for their concern and kindness during this difficult time to Sacred Heart Hospital, St. Catharine’s 2nd floor Nurses, Dr. Helmei, Dr. Pyle and to the Covenant Hospice staff at West Florida Hospital.

Visitation will take place at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Monday, April 21, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North at 2 p.m. with Jimmy Blackmon and Jeffery Orr, ministers of the Church of Christ, officiating and Toby White, minister assisting.

Interment to follow at Morgan Cemetery in Molino.

Sybil Bowers Warren

April 16, 2014

Sybil Bowers Warren, of Cantonment, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014, in Pensacola.

She was born on September 29, 1923 in Samson, Alabama, to the late Homer Monroe Bowers, Sr. and Annie Bedsole Bowers. Sybil retired from Civil Service where she was a keypunch operator. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Johnny Malone of Madison, Mississippi and his wife, Carmen; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren: two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Lucy Robbins, DeFuniak Springs.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 18, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home until services at 12:30 p.m.

Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Lamar Brooks

April 16, 2014

Lamar Brooks, 80, of Cantonment, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014. He was born in Langdale, AL. He resided locally for the past 55 years and in 1985, he retired from Monsanto after 30 years of dedicated service. Lamar is a veteran of the US Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry P. and Pauline Brooks of Valley, AL; brothers, Tom, JT and Gene Brooks; and sisters, Dorothy Ritchie and Sara Norred.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Kay; son, Rick;  sister, Estelle Laney; numerous nieces, nephews; great nieces and great nephews. He was affectionately known by his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Buck” and “Uncle Mar” and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, 2014, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Reverend John Webb officiating.

Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Special thanks are extended to the nurses and staff of Covenant Hospice and the ICU staff of West Florida Hospital for the care provided to Lamar.

Marc Mitchell Doerr

April 16, 2014

Marc Mitchell Doerr, 57 of Pensacola, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2014, at the Life Care Center at West Florida Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He will be missed and always in our hearts. He loved life, his family, and his friends.

He left this world to join his mom and dad, Arthur H. and Audrey Dale Doerr in Heaven.

He is survived by the joy of his life, wife Margaret Bryan Doerr of Pensacola, formerly of Jay; stepson, Michael Shawn Gusick and his partner in crime, Skittles, his much loved and spoiled dog.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m.

Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Cancer Center of Pensacola or A.S.P.C.A. of your choice.

Delores K. Swain

Delores Kay Benner Swain, 67, died April 15, 2014. Even though Delores’s life on this earth has ended, her eternal life with her Heavenly Father has just begun. She was an inspiration and blessing to all whose lives she touched in her courageous journey of battling cancer for more than 12 years. Her love of life was contagious in the way she enjoyed every day to its fullest.

Delores was born in Springfield, Illinois on January 19, 1947. She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Henry Benner and her mother, Korsie Leona Benner.

She is survived by her devoted husband and the love of her life, Roger L. Swain; daughters, Stephanie K. Harris (Nick) and Veronica S. Kings, who are her greatest contribution in life; four grandsons, Zachary Harris, Stephen Harris, Daniel Kings, Adam Kings; her beloved pets, Harry and Pepe’; and numerous friends.

Delores worked for Southern Bell Telephone prior to accompanying her husband abroad during his career in the Navy. Upon returning to Pensacola she became District Manager for H&R Block. After moving to California for five years, she and Roger returned to Pensacola to be near their daughters. She worked briefly at Sandy Sansing BMW.

She was a faithful member of Corry Station Chapel for many years.

Her infectious smile, positive attitude, fun-loving personality, inner beauty and gift for loving will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a much-loved Christian wife, mother, “Grammie” and friend. Her example of faith and grace in times of medical stress were truly a gift for those in her presence. She shared her testimony of faith with everyone she met. She especially touched the lives of those also battling cancer by providing encouragement.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Flannigan officiating.

Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Steven DeCesare and Dr. Dany ElSayah for their many years of compassionate and devoted care, and for whom we are forever grateful. Charles Lewis Fuqua

Charles Lewis Fuqua, Sr., 82, of Walnut Hill, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Escambia County, Ala., on March 19, 1932, to the late David Talmadge and Rachael Mae Belle Ware Fuqua. He served in the U.S. AirForce during the Korean War, retiring from N.A.S. Pensacola as an air craft mechanic with over 25 years experience. He was also a member of Nokomis Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Julian Fuqua.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Jones Fuqua of Walnut Hill, one son, Charles Lewis (Cindy) Fuqua, Jr., of Summerdale; two daughters, Deborah (Xavier) Ritchie of Pelham, AL and Cathy (Glenn Dick) Varallo of Birmingham; one stepson, Lavon (Cindy) Ledkins of Foley; two stepdaughters, Susan (Jim) Hamby of Elberta and Helen (Neil) Howard of Granite Falls, WA; one brother, Ronald (Linda) Fuqua of Brewton; two sisters, Wilma Lambert of Brewton and Virginia Waller of Dothan;  17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Hill officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

Marcia Ann Taylor

Mrs. Marcia Ann Taylor, 75, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Atmore.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Mobile and a resident of Bratt for the past 49 years. Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She attended the Bethel Temple Church. Her husband, Cleve Taylor; parents, Mary Alice Payne and Calvin Wallace Payne; and brother, Oscar Payne, precede her in death.

Survivors include her five daughters, Janice Flowers of Nokomis, AL, Louise Bozeman of Monroeville, Marie Hatfield of Bratt, Lynette Colbert of Atmore and Annette Carr of Milton; one brother, Sonny Payne of Mobile; three sisters, Peggy McCarty of Saraland, Dorothy Jean Burnette of Jackson, MS and Mary Davis of Tillmans Corner; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the Godwin Cemetery with the Rev. John Coleman officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Rita Faye James

April 14, 2014

Rita Faye James, 59, of Atmore, passed away April 9, 2014, in Mobile. She was born on May 15, 1954, in Atmore. She was a LPN for many years. She is preceded in death by her father, Reuben McKinley and son, Phillip Cox.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” James and her mother, Lois Presley; one son; Jason Wade (Bobbie) Cox of Atmore; daughters, Kari (T.J.) Ashcraft of Frisco City, Sara Dunn of Uriah, Heather Dunn of Uriah, and Joanna James of Lillian, AL; brother, Steve (Kristina) Morris of Atmore; sisters, Patti Prater of Vicksburg, MS and Elaine Swilley of Atmore; grandchildren, Jacob, Blaze Mikael and Kaston and her best friend, Peggy Quimby Weaver.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 13, 2014, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Scott Allen and Rev. Paul Enfinger officiating.

Active pallbearers were Claude Eubanks, Stevie Morris, Steven Morris, Brad Goldman, Tommy Ashcraft and Tim Goldman.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Rita James Memorial Fund c/o First National Bank of Atmore.
