Helen B. Ross

Helen B. Ross, 88 of Atmore, passed Sunday, May 18, 2014, in Fairhope. She was a retired medical receptionist, born in Repton on September 18, 1925, to the late Carl and Artie McIntyre Brown, Sr. She was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star, Daughters of The Nile Al-Sihah, Lady’s Auxiliary of VFW and American Legion.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L. Ross; son, Harvey Randall Ross; sister, Joyce Tubbs; and brother, Carl Brown, Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Marcella) Ross and Richard H. Ross; two sisters, Hazel Hall and Nelda Brown, all of Atmore; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services will be Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Grindle officiating.
Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday May 21, 2014 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Curtis Baxley

Curtis Baxley, born March 8, 1948, passed away unexpectedly in his home early Friday morning, May 16, 2014. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon “Red” and Eloise.
He is survived by his best friend and son, Len; and two brothers, Kenneth (Gayle) and Joe (Sandy).
An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, his dogs, and most of all, spending time with his son. He served his country as an Army Ranger, Special Forces, in the Vietnam War and was wounded in combat in 1968. He retired from NAS Whiting Field Civil Service.
Curtis lived his life in Milton. He was full of life and always had a joke, a smile, or some fish to share with everybody.
Funeral services will be at Lewis Funeral Home in Milton on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 12 p.m. Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm.
Burial will follow immediately at Crain Cemetery.

Dorothy Broughton Cipperly

Dorothy Broughton Cipperly, 97, of Atmore, passed away on Tuesday May 13, 2014, in Atmore. She was born in Monroe County, on December 17, 1916, to the late John S. and Mary Patrick Broughton. She was a graduate of Livingston University and taught school for over 40 years for the Monroe County School System. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore, Order of The Eastern Star and The Teachers’ Retirement Systems of Alabama.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis H. Cipperly.
Survivors are a host of family and friends.
Services will be Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Grindle officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are her first grade class, Lester Peavey, Luther Upton, Don House, W.C. Baggett, Stinston Jay, and Randy Lambert.
Family will receive friends, Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time.

Thomas “Edward” McCall, 91, of Jacksonville, passed away on May 10, 2014, of congestive heart failure. Edward was born on July 28, 1922, in McDavid. He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas Joseph McCall and Dora Lucille Walker McCall; his wife of 37 years, Frances Laura McGlamery McCall; his son, CWO James Edward McCall and brother, Wildon Wayne McCall.
He is survived by his siblings, Erlene Lanette Pugh (Arnold), Calvin R. McCall (Ann) of McDavid and Norma Jean Taylor (Billy) of Atmore; his children, Mary Frances Spradley of South Carolina and Thomas Almon McCall (Julie) of Glen Saint Mary, FL. Edward was blessed with six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. His family also included numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 15, 2014, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ted Bridges officiating.
Burial was in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oak Grove.

Mya Lynn Colletta of Jay, daughter of Lauren and Tony passed away on May 8, 2014. She was a beautiful sweet, angel who was taken from us too soon. She touched many lives while she was here with us. She will be missed everyday and always in our hearts.
She is survived by her parents, Stephanie (Lauren) Morrow and Charles (Tony) Colletta; grandparents, Chuck and Beth Colletta, Vic Morrow, Dave Maconeghy and Candy Morrow; great-grandparents, Sue and Preston Hawthorne; aunt, Melissa Morrow; uncles, Richard (Ricky) Morrow, Kevin Morrow, Richard (Joey) Colletta and David (Matt) Colletta; godmother, Brittany Tedder and several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Funeral services were held at Jay Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, with Bro. Caleb Copeland officiating.
Burial will follow at Jay City Cemetery.

Laura Helen Paul, age 76, of Chumuckla, went to be with the Lord, Friday May 9, 2014. Helen was a lifelong resident of Santa Rosa County. She retired from Monsanto after 38 years as a Yarn Lab Technician. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, and spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar L. Paul of 48 years; her son, Teddy J.; parents, Aliston and Ruth Gavin; brothers, Leon, Clarence Ray and Aubrey; sister, Mildred and her grandson, Jason.
She is survived by her sons, Johnny Ray (Patsy) Kirkland and Darrell (Felicia) Paul; step-sons, Randy (Carrie) Paul and Ricky (Janis) Paul; daughter, Shelia (Howard) Morris; brothers, Glenn and Wayne Gavin; sisters, Mary Nell Applegate and Deborah Goodson; grandchildren, Eric, Matthew, Jonathon, Brandon, Kelly, Josh, Makala, Tanner, step-grandchildren Lance, Wayne, and Tiffany and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Pine Level Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Hudson officiating the service.

Mr. Verlon James Pugh, age 72 of Robertsdale, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in a Fairhope nursing facility.
Mr. Pugh was born in Brewton and had been a resident of Robertsdale since 1984. He was a truck driver by trade and was a member of Bush Street Church in Pensacola.
He is survived by a son, Michael (Prisca) Pugh of Robertsdale; two brothers, Robert (Shirley) Pugh and L.C. Pugh all of Brewton; one sister, Clarice Southwell of Jay; three grandchildren, Cynthia Guarisco, Matthew Pugh, and Michaela Pugh; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Katherine Guarisco.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 16, 2014, from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. James O. Baker officiating.
Interment was in New Hopewell Cemetery.

Mrs. Arva Ruth Fore, age 84 of Flomaton, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at Baptist Hospital.
Mrs. Fore was a native of Byrneville and a member of the Flomaton community since 1954. She was a homemaker and a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Odell Fore and sisters, Evelyn Dawson and Edith Killiam.
Survivors include her sons, Tommy Rex (Ann) Fore of Brewton, Tony Robert (Becky) Fore of Flomaton, Roger Eric (Charlene) Fore of Snellville, GA; daughter, Wanda Ruth (Timothy) Faulk of Dothan; sisters, Aleene Tubbs of Gadsden, AL, and Wynetta Boutwell of Flomaton; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 16, 2014, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Timothy Faulk officiating.
Interment was in Little Escambia Cemetery in Flomaton.

Mrs. Connie Elizabeth Graves Sheffield, age 78, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in a Century health care facility.
Mrs. Sheffield was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton. She Attended Divine Temple, and was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (Wayne) Radford of Reidsville, NC and Cynthia “Cindy” (Byron) Smith of Brewton; three grandchildren, Jeremy Radford, Avery Radford, and Roxanne Goodman; and six great-grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Smith, Austin Radford, Christian Radford, Caleb Goodman, Caden Goodman, and Adalyn Goodman.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 15, 2016, from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. Wilbur Graves officiating.
Interment was in Beulah Cemetery.

Cheryl Anne McFarlain Peebles

Mrs. Cheryl Anne McFarlain Peebles, age 51 of Flomaton, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
Mrs. Peebles was a native of Orange, TX, a resident of Pensacola for a number of years and of Flomaton for the past five years coming from Greenville, SC. She was a veteran of the Army National Guard where she was a Medical Specialist and earned the Army Service Ribbon and Marksman Qualifications Badge. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant Coordinator. Mrs. Peebles was preceded in death by her brother, Shelby Jules McFarlain, Jr.
Survivors include her father, Shelby Jules McFarlain, Sr. of Flomaton; her mother, Barbara Guidy McFarlain of Pensacola; husband, Jeff Peebles of Greenville, SC; sons, Tyler Peebles and Shelby Peebles, both of Flomaton; sisters, Veronica (John Colvin) McFarlain of Cantonment, Pamela (Kenny Accord) McFarlain of Pensacola, and Theresa (Todd) Bradshaw of Houston, TX; nieces, nephews and numerous other family members.
