James Calvin Kast

Mr. James Calvin Kast age 72, of Pierce Lane in Castleberry, passed away early Saturday morning May 24, 2014, at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Kast was a native of Century and life-long resident of Castleberry. He was a logger and a member of the Vines & Branches Church.
Survivors include four sons, James Richard Kast of Repton, Jerry (Angie) Kast of Castleberry, Terry (Angie) Kast of Evergreen and James Rivers of Tuscaloosa; one daughter, Jennifer (Terry) Hayhurst of Benson, MN; one brother, Donnie Kast of Evergreen; two sisters; Carolyn Laster of Castleberry and Ernestine Caffey of Orange Beach; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Kast was preceded in death by his daughter, Pam Williams and a brother, Buford Kast.
Funeral services for Mr. James Calvin Kast are scheduled for Monday, May 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Craver’s Funeral Home Inc with Rev. Jason Blackwell officiating.
Interment will follow in New Hopewell Cemetery in Castleberry.

Faye Coon Phillips

Faye Coon Phillips, 91 of Atmore, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, at her residence. She was a homemaker, born in Stockton, AL on October 06, 1922, to the late John Leeman and Sarah Della Dannelley Coon. Mrs. Phillips was the last one living of her siblings.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elder Burl F. Phillips, Sr.
Survivors include her son, Burl Franklin Phillips, Jr., of Atmore; two daughters,Phyllis (Arnold) Hendrix of Uriah and Beverly Blackwell of Atmore; four grandchildren, Phillip Zangas, Leah Crawford, Katherine Blackwell and Temple Blackwell; one great-grandchild, Brodie Zangas; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be Sunday, May 25, 2014, at 5 p.m. from the Pine Level Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Arnold Hendrix, Elder H.L.McClain and Elder Eugene Freeland officiating.
Interment will follow in Pine Level Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Family will receive friends, Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Dillard Albert Bankston

Mr. Dillard Albert Bankston, age 75 of Century, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Bankston was a native of Haleyville, AL and a resident of Century for 60 years. During his working years, he was an owner and operator truck driver. He was a member of Bratt First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Carrie Bankston; his son, Darryl Bankston; and granddaughter, Stephanie Macks.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rochelle Burkett Bankston of Century; sons, William Macks, Danny Macks and Samuel (Cheryl) Macks all of Century; daughters, Lajuana (Keith) Reid of Byrneville, Sheila (Terry) Bryan of Bratt and Robbie (Bubba) Hammac of Century; brother, Willard Bankston of Century; sister, Jean Miller of Rogers, AR; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. with Rev. Delbert Redditt and Rev. Mitch Herring officiating.
Interment will be in Moyeville Cemetery in Brewton.
Pallbearers will be Heath Bryan, Miles Hammac, Skyler Macks, Michael Jacobs, Lane Macks, Jeffrey Laborde, Adam Dudney, Levi Peters, KK Knowles.

Edward Ray “Bud” Stabler

Edward Ray “Bud” Stabler, 66 of Atmore, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Pensacola. He was a mechanic for Alabama River Pulp. He was born in Franklin, AL to the late Albert and Mary Stabler on October 25, 1947.
Survivors include his son, Ken (Regina) Stabler; daughter, Mandy (Rusty) Emmons, all of Atmore; one brother, Robert Stabler; two sisters, Ann McKinley and Betty Counselmen, all of Franklin, AL; and three grandchildren, Grayson Emmons, Garrett Emmons, and Mayci Stabler.
Services will be Sunday May 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Diane Everette and Speaker Beth Linam officiating.
Interment will follow in Huxford Baptist Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Reba G. Jeter, 90 of Spanish Fort, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Bay Minette. She was a retired cashier. She was born in Uriah on August 10, 1923, to the late Dewey and Geneva Ship Jeter.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Jeter; and sister, Doris Hayles.
Survivors include one sister, Gladys Slaughter of Stapleton; niece, Dianne Wilson of Spanish Fort; nephew, Jerry Hayles of Uriah; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Mineola Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

George Allen Davis age 90, a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, passed away peacefully at home in Cantonment on May 23, 2014, after a long battle with cancer.
He was pre-deceased by wives Janet Keaton and Buelah Wingo of Ohio; and son, Michael Davis.
He is survived by Linda (Larry) Hall of Ohio, Jerry Davis of Ohio, Timothy Davis of Florida, Jennifer Sonneman (Dave) of Indiana, Jeff Pelphrey (Mary)of Arkansas, Benny Pelphrey (Denise) of Texas and Tammy Williams (Dale) of Ohio; loving companion, Dorothy Parkerson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Northridge Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior the the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions are made to the Fisher House, Pensacola Naval Air Station or the charity of your choice in his name.

Jack Wayne Brown

Jack Wayne Brown, 68 of Walnut Hill, passed away May 17, 2014, at his residence. He was born on April 21, 1946. Jack was of the Baptist faith, long time member of the Walnut Hill Fire Department and retired farmer. Physically he had a weak heart but his spirit remained strong, loving and caring for his family, friends and community. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Kenneth and Lois Langford Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Karen Pitts Brown; son David Rex Brown; and grandson Rex Brown, all of Walnut Hill; sister Nina (Robert) Bartley of Walnut Hill; and brother, William C. (Jean) Brown of Pensacola/Walnut Hill; two nephews and one niece.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 19, 2014, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Chewning and Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.
Burial was in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

William Charles Lowrey

William Charles Lowrey,93 of Atmore, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, at his residence. He was owner and operator of Lowrey’s Drive-In. He was born in Canoe, on July 12, 1920, to the late Robert L. and Virgie Lowrey. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Atmore and served for over 50 years as the church treasurer. He served in WWII in the U.S. Army, serving in General Patton’s U.S. Army Tank Corp. and the Army in Europe. He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Esneul Lowrey of Atmore; one son, William Hugo (Kathy) Lowrey of Albuquerque, NM; one daughter, Kathryn Lynn (Scott) Vinson of Pensacola; and one sister, Peggy Byrd of Richland, TX.
Services will be Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. from The First Baptist Church of Atmore with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Marvin Risher, Jack Ward, Floyd Adams, Roger Owens, Billy Branun, and Robert Earl Brantley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Haskew Middleton, John Shiver, Dale Cooper and Giles Chapmen.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at The First Baptist Church of Atmore from 10 a.m. until service time.

Russell Herbert Haley, Jr.

Russell Herbert Haley, Jr. of Pensacola, died Saturday, May 17, 2014, after a long battle with heart disease. Mr. Haley was born March 14, 1926, in Mobile. He spent his early childhood in Daphne and moved with his family to Atmore in his youth. After graduation from Escambia County High School, he enlisted in the US Navy and fought during World War II in the Pacific theatre. While in the Navy, he was chosen as a Goodwill Ambassador for a World tour by President Kennedy, as part of his later service to our country. Upon retirement in 1966 from active duty, he became a Chief Engineerman for the Corps of Engineers from which he later retired making his home in Pensacola. Mr. Haley enjoyed hunting, fishing, making “Uncle Russell’s Famous Gumbo” and wine for family and friends, and spending time with his beloved canine best friend, Heidi. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Herbert Haley, Sr.; his mother, Pauline Thompson Haley; and brothers, Tommy, Jack, and Ben Haley of Atmore.
Mr. Haley is by survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara W. Haley; nieces, Rhonda H. (Ike) Scott of Opelika, and Kathleen H. (Al) Thompson of Bay Minette. He is also survived by his great-nieces, Haley C. Scott of Daphne and Amory E. Scott of Atlanta, and many cousins in Fairhope.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore. Hospice Chaplin Cindy Still officiated the service with Military Honor Corp and the singing of the Navy Hymn: “Eternal Father: Strong to Save” by Haley and Amory Scott.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Waterfront Mission in Pensacola, FL. or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the wonderful care given to Russell during his residence at The Homestead and by the medical staff at Baptist Hospital.

Edwin Mitchell Roley

Edwin Mitchell Roley passed away on May 15, 2014, in Newnan, Georgia, after a long illness.
Mr. Roley was born January 21, 1953, in Atmore, the older child of Edward James Roley and Glennie Mae Mooney Roley. Edwin worked over 25 years in the wholesale household appliance industry, for Singer Sewing Machine Company in Atmore , Montgomery and Atlanta GA; Riccar America as warehouse manager, Southeast district sales manager and then Eastern sales manager; and the Miele Company as Southern sales manager.
Edwin lived in Heard County, GA (west of Newnan GA) for 28 years, with his wife and pets. Known as Red in his early years and Mitch after that, Edwin enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, carpentry, music, tinkering, and mentoring younger friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward James Roley and his brother, James Darrell Roley. He is survived by his wife Lynne Suzanne Miller of Newnan, GA and mother, Glennie Mae Byrd of Atmore.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 22, 2014 from noon until 2 p.m. at Petty’s Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.
