Mattie Ruth Messer Harrison

After joyously celebrating her 100th birthday in January, Mattie Ruth Messer Harrison received her angel wings on Monday, June 23, 2014. Mattie was born January 13, 1914, in Samson, Alabama to Gabe and Versie Messer. She lived and worked on a farm with her five brothers and two sisters. In 1940 she married Alton A. (Bud) Harrison and in 1948 moved to Jay, where they became active members of the community. She was a full time homemaker, and spent most of her time volunteering at Jay Hospital, working in her church, teaching Sunday school, acting as church clerk for many years, and enjoying being a member of the Jolly Jays. Mattie served as the site manager for sixty plus meal site, and spent many hours taking the elderly to doctors’ appointments, etc. She inspired many with her active and healthy lifestyle. After her husband’s death in 2004, she resided with her daughter for 5-1/2 years. At the time of her death she was a resident of the Terrace at Ivey Acres in Jay.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters, and her loving husband of 64 years.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories two children, Marolyn (Julius) Middleton, of Jay and Kerry Alton Harrison (Beverly) of Tifton, Georgia; two grandchildren she adored, Jon (J.J.) (Michelle) Middleton of Pace and Jennifer (Jimmy) Warren of Fairhope; and her four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Crosby Warren and Marlee and McClain Middleton. She is also survived by three special nieces, Miriam McKinney, Blondell Barberi, and Geraldine Samartano, along with many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harrison will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Jay with Reverend Chip Fox and Reverend Frederick Barrow officiating.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Terrace of Ivey Acres for spoiling her and to Dr. C. David Smith, NP Twyla Cotton, and Toddie Milstead and the staff at Jay Medical for taking such good care of her.

Timothy Duane Gabbard

Timothy Duane Gabbard, age 48 of Milton, passed away unexpectedly June 19, 2014, in Calvert, Ala. He served in the United States Army, attended True Worship Assembly of God Church, and was employed at ThyssenKrupp Steel USA in Mobile. He was a loving father, son, and brother that will be dearly missed.

Tim is preceded in death by his grandfather, Nelson Allen; and father, Pearl Gabbard.

He is survived by his twin sons, Ryan (Jessica) Gabbard and Bryan (Aleshia) Gabbard; wife of 26 years, Renee Gabbard; mother, Edith Gabbard; grandmother, Mafrie Allen; sisters, Linda Boatright, Regina (Gerald) King, and Tammy (Thomas) Pritchard; brothers, Donnie (Lynn) Gabbard, Randy (Karen) Gabbard, and Rick (Kim) Hickey.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 11 a.m. at Jay Funeral Home, with Reverend Adam Peterson and Reverend Bradley Odom, officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. at Eastern Gate Cemetery in Pensacola with military honors.

Active pallbearers will be Bryan Gabbard, Ryan Gabbard, Donnie Gabbard, Brandon Hoyt, Gerald King, and Johnny Watson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Pritchard and Lee Pritchard.

Esther McKinley O’Farrell

Esther McKinley O’Farrell, 82, of Walnut Hill, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and devoted Christian, passed peacefully in her home on June 19, 2014. She was a native of Canoe but resided in Atmore the majority of her life where she worked with Southland Telephone Company as an operator and retired after 36 years. She was a longtime, faithful member of Oak Grove Church of Christ in Oak Grove. She loved her church family and enjoyed living by example and doing for others. She loved her family unconditionally and enjoyed spending time and making memories at the beach with her family.

Esther is preceded in death by her mother, Lyna Meadows McKinley; brothers, Almos, Joe, Edgar, and Gene McKinley; and sisters, Estelle Petter and Lillie Greenwood.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Henry Eugene O’Farrell; sister, Earline Barton, of Bay Minette; children, Cynthia O. Freeman of Walnut Hill, Barbara O. Powell (Billy) of LaPlace, LA, and Kenneth G. O’Farrell (Dana) of Orange Beach; four granddaughters, Kimberly O. Myers, Stephanie Rauch, Melanie Powell St. John and Vickie Gage; one grandson, Nicholas O’Farrell; and four great-grandsons, all who loved ” Granny 0” dearly.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Billy Randolph and Pastor Brad Sullivan officiating.

Interment was in Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.

Dorothy L. Brown

Mrs. Dorothy L. Brown, 73, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in Pensacola.

Mrs. Brown was a native and lifelong resident of McDavid. Mrs. Brown was over the resident council at the Century Care Center and attended the Flomaton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

Her husband, William Harvey Brown; parents, John Thomas Williams-Mills and Flora Littles; and sister, Ruth Sessions precede her in death.

She is survived by her two sons, Marty (Rose) Brown of Century and Billy (Shirley) Brown of North Carolina; one daughter, Connie Booker of Baker; two sisters, Bertha Johnson of Fort Walton and Shirley Sailor of North Carolina; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Elder Richard Ash officiating.

Burial was at the Little Flock Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Brown, Rodney Burkett, Robert Wilson, Zaire Dennis, Ethan Wright and Mark Salter.

Agnes J. Zorn

Mrs. Agnes J. Zorn, 87, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, in Pensacola.

Mrs. Zorn was a native of Baltimore, Maryland and a resident of Atmore for most of her life. Mrs. Zorn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Zorn; and son, William Joe Zorn.

She is survived by her son, Thomas J. (Wanda) Zorn of Pensacola; two daughters, Patricia (Don) Mitchell of Navarre and Lynda (J.C.) Crespo of Orlando; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Rev. David Zorn officiating.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Luke James Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell, Kolton Mitchell, Tyler Williams, George Williams and J.C. Crespo.

Reverend Andrew L. Blankenship

June 22, 2014

Rev. Andrew L. Blankenship, 86, of Pensacola, joined the Celebration in Heaven on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. He was born on July 8, 1927, in Repton, AL, to the late Lehman Blankenship and Elizabeth Hancock Blankenship.

Rev. Blankenship started the Pensacola Deliverance Temple over 60 years ago, but had started preaching the gospel over 70 years ago. He preached his last sermon here on earth on June 8, 2014. He brought thousands of people to Christ. Oh, what a crown full of jewels he has received.

Rev. Blankenship is survived by his daughter, Wanda Larocque; two granddaughters, Angela Petty and Krystal Hardy; grandson, Rocky ( Kally) Casey; great-grandchildren, Carson, Brookly, Skyler, Kaleb, McKenzie, MaKailyn, Chloe, Mejia, Maegan, Josh and Abbie; and one great-great-grandchild, Connor.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Helen McBride, officiating.

Burial will follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Charles Frankie Maguire

June 22, 2014

Charles Frankie Maguire, 69 of Atmore, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in Mobile. He was a retired corrections officer with Holman Prison. He was born on May 29, 1945, in Carlinville, Illinois to the late Glen and Mae Wyzard Maguire. He was of Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by one brother, Howard Maguire; and two sisters, Melba Maguire and Betty Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Respress Maguire of Atmore; one son, Chuck Maguire of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Carl Maguire; and one sister, Barbara (Dave) Cox, both of Illinois and his best friend, Scooter.

Services were held Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Lawrence Stoker officiating.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Assistant Fire Chief Ronald Peebles, Captain Lewis English, fire fighters Eugene, Daniel, Jessie, and Ethan, all of Atmore Fire and Rescue.

Honorary pallbearers were Joe Raines, Dean Boyte and James Womack.

Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Teuber-Smith

Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Teuber-Smith, 59, of Pensacola, passed away on June 17, 2014. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Calvin E. and Marilyn E. Teuber. Growing up in Warrenville, IL, she enjoyed the outdoors and graduated from Wheaton Central High School in 1973. She later became part-owner of a chimney sweep company and worked in retail and manufacturing. In the early days of computers, she was the office coordinator for a computer rental company, as well as a floral arranger for Phillips Florist in Downers Grove, IL.

In 1992 Richard and Cindy had Adam J. Smith. Over the years since, Cindy enjoyed gardening, homemaking, and working as The Crafty Lady. She designed her own line of Couch Cats by Cindy Smith, jewelry, and other cloth items. Cindy was an early member of the Palafox Market Vendors and had many friends in the arts and crafts community of Pensacola. She loved attending Gallery Night and the many festivals and events in the Pensacola area. Her favorite places were her garden, the yard, and the local beaches.

Cindy is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Lyn Teuber.

She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Smith II; son, Adam J. Smith; sister, Valerie (Teuber) Bruce of Naperville, IL; two nephews, Michael and Peter Bruce; and her beloved cat, Sprite.

A visitation for friends and family was held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Trahan Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Nancy Louise Emmons

June 22, 2014

Mrs. Nancy Louise Emmons, age 81 of Brewton, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014. She was a native of Bay Minette but had lived most of her life in Brewton. Mrs. Emmons was a member of Brewton First Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Emmons was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Brown and Susie Stewart Brown; her husband, Floyd Emmons; one daughter, Cathy Emmons Reese; two grandsons, Marcus Simmons and Trenton Simmons; two brothers, Buford Brown and Clyde Brown; and two sisters, Helen Parker and Lois Sims.

She is survived by one son, George “Jerry” Emmons of Jay; four daughters, Linda (Ray) Simmons, Glenda (Kenneth) James, Elaine (Steve) Lisenby all of Brewton and Nelda (Dennis) Burkett of Foley; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Fitts officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Earl Glenn Knowles

Mr. Earl Glenn Knowles, 67, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, in Pensacola.

Mr. Knowles was a native of Range, Alabama, former resident of Flomaton, and a resident of Atmore for the past 22 years. Mr. Knowles received degrees from Winthrop University in Accounting and Engineering and attended Bible College. He was a devoted husband of almost 23 years. He was a very loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gladys Knowles and grandson, Ethan Warden.

He is survived by is wife, Hattie Sells Knowles of Atmore; three sons, Damon Rolin, Eric (Kim) Rolin and Waylon (Valerie) Rolin all of Atmore; two daughters, Janet Welch (Tommy Ashcraft) of Atmore and Julianne (Donnie) Wilson of Rockhill, NC; two brothers, Gary Knowles and Terry Knowles, both of Flomaton; one sister, Cheryl Conner of Semmes, AL; seven grandchildren, Whitney Warden, Coty (Brooke) Rolin, Brandon Wilson, Benjamin Wilson, Austin Wilson, Dillon Rolin and Brady Rolin; five great-grandchildren, Kaiden & Kylin Marshall, Halyn Warden, Zhoie Rolin and Zanie Rolin.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Cornelius Phillips officiating.

Burial will follow at the New Home Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Fayard, Kevin Knowles, Todd Knowles, Mark McDonald, Coty Rolin and Shelton Sells.

Honorary pallbearer will be Damon Rolin.
