Arthur “A.J.” Peacock, Jr.

Mr. Arthur “A.J.” Peacock, Jr., 82, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, in Mobile.

Mr. Peacock was a native and lifelong resident of Little Rock, Alabama. Mr. Peacock was a lifetime member of the Millwright Local #2471 from Pensacola, former Escambia County Constable, owner of the Little Rock Store and founder of the Little Rock Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Peacock was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Lucille Peacock of Little Rock, AL; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann & Don Gordon of Little Rock, AL and granddaughter, Dr. Amber Gordon & Mr. F. Bradford Butler of Birmingham.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Atmore with Rev. Arnold Hendrix and Rev. James E. Dukes, Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on Butler Street.

Pallbearers will be Steve Reynolds, Ray Singleton, Don Fischer, Lee Roy Peacock, Melvin Byrd and Winston Byrd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Jernigan, Steve Breceda, Bobby Wooten, Aubrey Peacock, David Smith, Billy Smith and Daryl Johnson.

J. Dillon Vickery

April 9, 2014

J. Dillon Vickery, 72, of Pensacola, passed away on April 4, 2014. Dillon served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves and was a member of the John Birch Society. He had a strong belief of God, Family, and Country, and was an avid reader of the New American. His faith was strong and he was a member of Olive Baptist Church. He owned Vickery Safety and Security and was dedicated to serving his customers. He was affectionately known as “Grandfather” by his grandchildren who he loved so much.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Vivian and Joe Rogers; brother, Raymond, and grandson, Nathan Blair.

Dillon is survived by his wife, Joy Gates Vickery; daughter, Karen Stewart Wood (Bobby); daughter, Kimberly Blair-Greenberg (Richard); grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell, Jonathon, Callie, and Gage; great-granddaughter, Alison; brother, Leonard Rogers, and sister, Melissa Ripa. He also leaves behind many loyal friends and loving neighbors. A special thanks to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola.

Funeral services were held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment on April 8, 2014. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 p.m. until services begin at 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Whitmire Cemetery.

Marvin Earl Hadley

April 9, 2014

Marvin Earl Hadley, 65 of Perdido, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, in Bay Minette. He was a sales manager with a package store, born in Rabun, Ala., on January 28, 1949, to Marvin Edward and Julie Harville Hadley.

He is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Edward Hadley; two brothers, Edward Hadley and Anthony Hadley.

Survivors include his mother, Julie Hadley of Rabun; four nieces, Kimberley Hadley of Pensacola, Tammy Harrelson of Perdido, Shelia K. Paul of California and  Angie Cowart of Pine Grove, Ala; one nephew, Clayton Hadley of Rabun and great nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Services will be Thursday, April 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. from Atmore Memorial Chapel with Bro. Malcolm Harrelson officiating.

Interment will follow in  Guy’s Chapel Cemetery.

Harry Brown

April 7, 2014

Harry Brown, age 83 of Pensacola,  peacefully went to his eternal home on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean Brown and their children, Michael (Teri) Brown of Chumuckla, John (Kristina) Brown of Madison, OH, Beverly Brown of Naples, FL, Yvonne (Robert) Bliss of North Carolina, Peggy (Dennis) Genebach of Utah, Renee (Michael) Brown of Chumuckla and Judy (Gary) Owens of Jay. Harry is also survived by 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Peppy.

He loved traveling and camping with his wife, gardening and was an avid bird watcher. Harry also enjoyed woodworking and researching his family genealogy. He never met a stranger and always had a great sense of humor. Harry was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired Civil Service Machinist.

At Harry’s request no service will be held. Harry leaves behind a family who will miss him and lovingly cherish his memory.

Robert Jeffrey Shreffler

Robert Jeffrey Shreffler, 56, of Century, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014. He was born to Robert and Mary Shreffler on May 5, 1957, in Sharon, PA. Bob was a loving husband for 36 years and an amazing father for 34 years. Bob was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly serving on the USS Hunley. He retired from the Department of Defense after serving over 30 years. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandsons. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Shreffler; father, Robert B. Shreffler and his sisters, Nancy and Debra Shreffler.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Shreffler; son and his wife, Bobby Shreffler (Kelly); grandsons, Peyton Shreffler and Landon Shreffler; sister, Kathleen Chomor; nieces, Jodi Evans and Jacki Ramsey; and a brother and his wife, Brian Schreffler (Liz).

Pallbearers will be Bobby Schreffler, Brian Schreffler, John Grzejka, Will Carter, Jerry Phillips and Jonathan Flowers.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 12 p.m., on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Reverend Jim Thorpe officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Presbyterian Church of Atmore (Mission Fund), 208 East Horner Street, Atmore, AL 36502.

Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Marilyn Jeanne Johnson

Mrs. Marilyn Jeanne Johnson, age 73 of Flomaton, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014, at Baptist Hospital.

She was a native of Flomaton and had spent the last 14 years as a member of the community coming from Virginia. She was a member of the Century Historical Society, the Railroad Museum and of Little Escambia Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Melinda Gafford.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Winford Johnson of Flomaton; grandson, Dane Belton of Decatur, IL and was loved by many neices, close friends and church family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. with Rev. Doug Hogg officiating.

Interment will be in Popular Dell Cemetery in Century.

Audrey Gene Wood

Mr. Audrey Gene Wood, age 70 of Milton, passed away at his home on Friday, April 4, 2014, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Wood was a native of Jay and a member of the Milton community since 1992 coming from Century. During his working years, he worked as a forklift operator at Jim Walton Doors that later became Crawford Doors. He was of the Holiness faith and a member of Ebenezer Assembly of God Church. Mr. Wood is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Walter and Bertha Lee Simmons Wood; his daughter, Tammy Lynn Wood; brothers, James Earl Wood, Allen Jack ‘A.J.’ Wood and Oscar Junior Wood.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Lillian Elbia Wood of Milton; sons, Audrey Lynn (Tonia) Wood of Orange County, CA, and Christopher Wood of Flomaton; daughters, Lisa Marie (Eddie) Peek of Flomaton and April Joann Wood of Berrydale; brothers, Jimmy Wood of Jay and Richard Dale Wood of Miton; sisters, Mary Alice ‘Polly’ (Keith) Garrison of Jay and Shirley (Doug) Nelson of Century; a very special neice, Betty Jo Kitchens of Monroeville; grandchildren, Khrystopherr Robert Wood, Samantha Lee Peek, Dustyn Ashton Wood, Bobby Gavin Wood, Angelina Marie Ard, Jamie Lee Peek, Robin May Ard, Kasey Lynn Wood, Jessica Renee Peek and Mason Rex Lail; and great-granddaughter, Peyton Raleigh Peek.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bobby Carnely officiating.

Interment will be in Cora Baptist Cemetery in Jay.

Gerald (Jerry) Wayne Campbell, Sr.

The son of Robert and Allie Campbell, Gerald (Jerry), was born in Birmingham on September 22, 1937. He was the third of seven children. He was a 1955 graduate of Tate High School and an avid FFA member. He was a member of Gonzalez Baptist since 1947. Jerry retired from Monsanto after 35 years of dedicated service. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan who loved college football, Nascar racing, fishing and hunting. He loved north Escambia county and was involved with the Historical Society.

He is survived by his son, Gerald Campbell, Jr. (Karen) of Seminole; son, William Robert Campbell (Karen) of Seminole; granddaughters, Taylor and Roben; daughter, Phyllis Campbell Craft (Jeffery) of Hartselle, AL; grandson, John Ross Leonard; son, Steven Mark Campbell (Shellie) of Conway, Arkansas; granddaughters, Kelsie and Tate; grandson, Steven; brother, Robert Campbell (Ann); nephew, Stewart of Decatur; sister, Sondra Bullard (Monte) of Carmel, California and a brother, Larry Campbell (Suzanne) of Atlanta, GA.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and close relatives.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Oswald, Pete Wilson and Jody Huelsbeck.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with funeral services to begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Chewning officiating.

William Thomas “Bill” Oliver, Jr. of Pensacola, passed away on April 1, 2014.

Bill was a member of Grace Assembly of God and Pine Barren Hunting Club. He was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Oliver, Sr.; mother Mary Olsen; step father, Pete Olsen; sister, Sharon E. Oliver; brother, Samuel Scott Oliver.

Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife Imelda Joyce Shirah Oliver; two sons, Robert N. (Christine) Oliver and Scott H. (Irina) Oliver; five grandchildren, Wyatt, Ally, Mary, Gracy, Nelly; sister, Sandra (Fred) Lizama; four nephews, Fred Lizama, Jr., Michael Lizama, Sam Oliver, Thomas Oliver.

Pallbearers will be Lonnie Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Jason Bonifay, Toby Lodge, Delton Boswell and Dale Olsen Pine Barren Hunting Club will be the honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Friday, April 4, 2014,at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.

Mary Lamargaret Whitehead

Mary Lamargaret Whitehead, 58, of Cantonment, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014. She was a loving wife of 35 years and a loving mother. Mary loved sewing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. She loved to cook, even for the neighborhood children. She touched so many lives and was loved by everyone.

Mary is survived by her husband, Donald Ray Whitehead, Sr.; daughters, Tammy Lassiter, Sophrona Whitehead, and Sheila Grim; sons, Edward Boyett and Donald Ray Whitehead, Jr; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Michelle Boyett and Sheila Rivenbark; brothers, Daniel Boyett and Anthony Boyett; mother-in-law, Carlie Whitehead; father-in-law, James Whitehead, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Faith Chapel North on Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a funeral service to follow immediately at 7 p.m.
