Lamar C. “Louie” Lewis

Lamar C. “Louie” Lewis of Berrydale, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 4, 2017.
Lamar Lewis was born in Brewton, Alabama to Irvin Lewis and Penny Ruth (Barnes) Todd. He served our country in the United States Navy. While stationed in San Diego, California, he met his beloved wife and began his family of five children. He retired as an industrial mechanic in Pace, Florida. He attended St. Maurice Catholic Church in Brewton, Alabama.
Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents Irvin Lewis and Penny Ruth (Barnes) Todd, his two brothers Roy Colmer Lewis and Cortez Lewis. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years Mary V. Lewis, children Barbara (Steve) Scott, Bill (Debbi) Lewis, Beth Anne (Madison) Whitfield, Becky Miller, Amy (Tommy) Kindig. Also, surviving Lamar are his sister Imogene Reeder, brothers Jerrell Lewis and Larry Lewis, his treasured grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and his “man’s best friend” of twelve years, Sophie.
The family would also like to express their love and appreciation to Lora Lambeth (care-giver), Chasity Lowery (Covenant Hospice) and Reverend Patrick Madden (St. Maurice Catholic Church) for becoming part of the family as we cherished this time together.
On Monday, January 9, 2017 the Celebration of Lamar’s life will begin with a time of fellowship and visitation with the family from 2:00-3:30 followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service beginning at 3:30 at the Berrydale Baptist Church on Highway 4.

Walter Henry Sollie

His unidentified remains have been buried for the past 75 years at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii. He was identified earlier this year through a DNA match with relatives.
He was born on November 23, 1904, in Myrtlewood, Marengo Co AL, to Frederick Ernest and Florence Vallie McCrary Sollie. He joined the Navy in 1923 and served until his death in 1941. He had served on the USS Pruitt, USS Huron, USS North Hampton, USS Maryland and finally, the USS Oklahoma.
He is survived by 5 nieces: Jean Bodiford, Greenville AL; Carol West, Chuchula AL; Iris (Bruce) Plowman, Kewanna IN; Betty (Tom) Turnipseed, Milton; and Cindy (Frank) Mayes, New Orleans LA; and 2 nephews: Clifford (Betty) Allen, Mobile AL; and Fred (Liz) Sollie, Jr, Clermont FL. He is also survived by 12 great nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Nina Mae Cobb; and his son, Walter Carlyle Sollie.

Mr. James Donald “J.D.” Hanks, 87, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama.
Mr. Hanks was a native of Bratt, FL, former resident of Molino, FL (35 years) and had resided in Atmore, AL since 1996. Mr. Hanks was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was in the U.S. Air Force, worked in the oil field, collected antique bottles, loved to cook and raised Donna. He attended the Hall’s Fork Assembly of God Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Lettie Caraway Hanks of Atmore, AL; one daughter, Donna Hanks (Tracey) Hall of Atmore, AL; one sister, Marnell Weekley of Pace, FL; two grandchildren, Donna Elizabeth (Jamie) King of Atmore, AL and James Ryan “J.R.” (Virginia) Hall of Gordo, AL; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Windell Hadley officiating.
Burial will follow at the Bay Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Hanks, Billy Hanks, Steve Wilson, Luman Wilson, Ricky Beasley and Roy Thomas.

Jerry “Coon Hunter” Haupert, 71, of Barrineau Pk, FL passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Jerry was born November 8, 1945 in Barrineau Park, FL. He was a loving husband, father, Pawpaw, and friend to many. He retired from the Escambia County Road Dept. after 35 years as a grader operator. He spent his spare time doing what he loved, farming.
He is preceded in death by his parents. George and Magdalena Haupert and his sister, Gertrude Castleberry. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Haupert; daughter, Lorri (Greg) Clary; son, Doyle (Threasa) Sledge; granddaughter, Ashley (Clay) Bonner; grandsons, Jody Bonner, Cody Clary and Justin Clary; great-grandsons, Trip, Brantley and Taiten; sisters, Mildred Schwartz, Catherine Goff and Dorothy McDonald and his brother, George Haupert.

Willie Edward Olsen Sr., 73, of Atmore, AL, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017. Mr. Olsen was born on March 31, 1943, in Pensacola, FL to Pete and Effie Olsen. He was a resident of Pensacola, FL and Baldwin County, AL for the majority of his life. He was a member of The Jockey Club and had a love of racing horses like no other. He was a loving father, “Pop”, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sisters, Helen Cole and Ruby Moore; and his brother, Howard “Peter-boy” Olsen.
He is survived by his sons, Edward Olsen (Jennifer) of Montgomery, AL, Richard “Rick” Olsen (Sarah) of Fairhope, AL; his daughter, Crystal Olsen-Clark (Randall) of Elberta, AL; eight grandchildren that were his pride and joy. Grandsons include Jackson, Bryson, Landon, Connor, Dominik, and Sailor, as well as his granddaughters, Avery and Anna-Claire; sisters, Frances Hampton of McDavid, FL, Mary Ferguson of Pensacola, FL, Janis Scott (Larry) of Pensacola, FL, Nelree Williams of Pensacola, FL, Janey Hood (Tom) of Pensacola, FL; two brothers, Jerry Olsen and Mike Olsen of Pensacola, FL.
Pallbearers will be David Martinez, Timothy Holland, James Walker, Kevin Cole, Tom Hood, Allen Hampton, Mike Coleman, and Mark Lindsey.
Honorary pallbearer is his lifelong friend, Roger Kervin.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, with services beginning at 3 p.m. Pastor Joshua Wallnofer will be officiating.

Opal J. Caraway, 74 of Atmore, AL passed away Thursday, January 5,2017, in Atmore, AL. She was a school bus driver for Escambia County (AL) school system with 24 years of service. She was born on December 5, 1942, in Atmore, AL to the late Louie Frank and Minnie Irene Rutherford Simmons. She was a member of Atmore First Assembly of God.
Survivors include her husband, Hollis “Bob” Caraway of Atmore, AL; two sons, Hollis Wayne (Rachael) Caraway of Uriah, AL and Ryan O’Neal (Carrie) Caraway of Atmore, AL ; two daughters, Alicia (Richard) Hetrick and Regena (Chris) Black, all of Atmore, AL; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, January 9, 2017, at 2 p.m. from Atmore First Assembly of God with Bro. Don Davis officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ryan Caraway, Jeb Black, Matthew Dempsey, Nicolas Caraway, Justin Hetrick, and Brandon Hetrick.

Mrs. Evelyn McKinley Pipkin, 80, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in Nokomis, Alabama.
Mrs. Pipkin was a native and lifelong resident of Nokomis, AL. She was a member of the Good Sams Club, Mobile Road Runners and the First Assembly of God of Atmore, AL. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gay and Grace Flowers; first husband, Carin McKinley; two brothers, Winston Flowers and Clayton Flowers; and two sisters, Joyce Nall and Betty Norris.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Pipkin of Nokomis, AL; two sons, Greg (Patty) McKinley of Lottie, AL and Randy (Debbie) McKinley of Nokomis, AL; one daughter, Diane (Ray) Lassitter of Nokomis, AL; one step-son, James E. (Gwen) Pipkin, Jr. of Saraland, AL; two step-daughters, Becky (Hodge) Walker of Bay Minette, AL and Catherine (Danny) Jordan of Houma, LA; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 8, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church of Atmore with Rev. Don Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mothershed Cemetery.

Mr. Jeremy Raybon, age 40 of Monroeville, AL, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Mr. Raybon was born in Atmore, Alabama and had been a resident of Monroe County since 2001. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Mr. Raybon worked as a machine operator in the oil business.
He is preceded in death by his father, Julius Franklin Raybon; his mother-in-law, Peggy Fowler; and his brother-in-law, Tim Fowler.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Raybon of Monroeville; his daughter, Sydney Raybon of Monroeville; his mother, Marilyn Raybon; his step-father, Alvin Philyaw; his sister, Regina Stabler and husband Ken of Huxford; a brother-in-law, Harvey (Marie) Fowler of Monroeville; a sister-in-law, Sue (Mike) Kitzinger of Camden; one niece, Mayci Stabler and one nephew, Tristen Fowler.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2017, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Dwayne Reed officiating.

Mr. Marty Leon Griffis, 57, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016, in Pensacola, Florida.
Mr. Griffis was a native and lifelong resident of Century, FL. He was an outdoorsman and was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Della Griffis and one brother, Robert Griffis.
He is survived by his three brothers, Keith Griffis, Billy Griffis and Rodney Griffis all of Century, FL; aunt, Jean Clark of Century, FL and a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 2, 2017, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Peacock officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Freddie Calloway, Wayne Stanton, D.C. Odom, Johnny Griffis, Tim Hammond and Nikki Odom.

Dillon Gregory Touart, Jr.
January 2, 2017
Greg passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rose; daughter, Cathy Haight (Benny); daughter of the heart, Martha Gorman (John); granddaughters, Annie Townsend (Tommy) and Anna Gorman; grandsons, Monty Haight and Jack Gorman; and adored great-grandchildren, Baylen Matthew, Allie Grace, and Thomas Andrew; brother, Robert Touart (Arlene); sister, Glenda Barker; brother in-law, Walter Cliatt; and niece, Deborah Cliatt, along with many friends and other family.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Dillon Gregory Touart Sr., Winston and Effie Crosby; grandparents, Joe and Mamie Elsperman; and sisters, Catherine Cliatt, and Judy Crosby.
Greg was raised by his grandparents Joe and Mamie Elsperman in downtown Pensacola. He attended schools in Pensacola and joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served aboard the USS Wisconsin. He met the love his life and they were married June 2, 1956. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2016, surrounded by family and friends. Greg was employed and retired from Monsanto after 37 years of service. He and Rose toured this great country in their motor home from coast to coast after they retired from their in-home day care. Greg was an avid fisherman and loved throwing his cast net from the bridges, catching plenty of mullet. His best fishing buddy was Ernie Millette. Greg and Rose served as youth advisors at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and Greg was also a licensed lay reader. Greg volunteered for many years at West Florida Hospital as a greeter, with many great friends. He was a member of Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, where he found great peace.
The family would like to thank all the many physicians at West Florida Hospital and Medical Center Clinic who attended his medical needs over the years, especially Dr. Phillips, Dr. Suelflow, Dr. Lurate, Dr. Gupp, Dr. Mehmood, Dr. Powell and Dr. Rush. We would also like to thank the VA and especially Dr. Fountain, Scott (Counselor for the Blind) and the VA Rehabilitation Center for the Blind in Biloxi, Mississippi for their continued dedication. What would he have done without you all?
Memorial visitation was held at Faith Chapel North on Saturday, December 31, 2016.
Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date with Father George Sammut officiating.
