Mrs. Erma Estelle Higdon, 89, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017, in Montevallo, AL.
Mrs. Higdon was a native of Bratt, FL, and has resided in Atmore, AL, most of her life. She was a member of the True Hope Fellowship. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Celia Dockens and husband, Bryan Higdon.
She is survived by her two daughters, Emily and Jim Allen of London, KY, and Marty and Jack Beeman of Montevallo, AL; five grandchildren, Heather, Jacob, Michael, Caleb and Kelly and 10 great grandchildren, Rylee, Reese, Rowan, Georgia, Hadley, Emma, Max, Drew, Shontel and Josh.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at noon at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Coburn and Bro. Jimmy Dukes officiating.
Burial will follow at the Judson Baptist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 24, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at noon at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jody Hardy, Billy Hardy, Jake Beeman, Michael Beeman, Caleb Beeman and Terry Reeves.

If living a successful life means making other people happy along the way, then Alex Cox was a success story.
Born and raised in Pensacola, Florida, Alex attended Tate High School where he participated in the band as a tuba/trumpet player, and was also involved in the Army JROTC program. He loved animals of all types, but was best-known for his love of people and music. Alex truly believed in the “One Love” philosophy in which all people are equal in the eyes of our Creator, the Almighty God. He lived by this philosophy, and had a well-earned reputation of having a big heart with those lucky enough to cross his path. He was a comforter, and a protector, and always tried to help when there was a need. His kind, giving spirit will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. Rest peacefully Alex, your reward has been prepared and is waiting for you in Heaven!
He is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Brian and Christina Thomann; brother, Brandon Richtmyre; sister, Casey Stout; father, Aaron Richtmyre; grandparents, Carolyn and David Richtmyre, and Albert and Elaine Roberti; grandfather, David Coker; and grandparents, Carl and Debbie Thomann.
Services will be Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with a Celebration of Life service at 5:30 p.m.

Mr. A.J. Mathews, 72, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Mr. Mathews was a native of Delhi, LA, former resident of McMinnville, TN and had resided in Clemmons, NC for the past year. He had 41 years of service in the garment industry where he served as president and vice president.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Mathews; parents, Lonzey and Lula Mathews; four sisters, Juanita Williams, Christine Duckworth, Lonette Guice and Judy Butler; and three brothers, L.C. Mathews, John Macklon Mathews and C.T. Mathews.
He is survived by his two sons, Dana Allen (Tracy) Mathews of Murfreesboro, TN and Scott Clyde (Denise) Mathews of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Donnie Joe (Deanna) Mathews of Louisiana; two sisters, Joan (Mitchell) Hale of Louisiana and Sharon (Jim) Fenwick of Ohio; sister-in-law, Francis Mathews of West Virginia; brother-in-law, Malcomb Butler of Louisiana; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Christopher.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017, 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Harrison and Rev. Eric Bryan officiating.
Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dana Mathews, Scott Mathews, Donnie Joe Mathews, Mitchell Hale, Malcomb Butler and Mike Duckworth.

James Monroe Baggett

James “Jimmy” Monroe Baggett, 68, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama, where he was a longtime resident. He was born in Ranger, Texas on October 30, 1948, and graduated from Spring Branch High School in Houston. He lived in Pensacola, Florida before moving to Atmore. He was a remarkable storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor who loved fishing, country music, and movies. Jimmy firmly believed that cowboy boots were appropriate for any occasion and that Lonesome Dove could never be watched too many times. He selflessly helped his friends and family in any way he could and will be missed by all who knew him.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, Theron Chester Baggett and Mabel Gladys Fendley Baggett.
He is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Gray and Barbara Huggins; brothers, Steve (Brenda) Hines, David (Susan) Baggett, and Dale (Marjorie) Baggett; daughter, Jenni Baggett; best friend, Joe Hubbard; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Angels at Risk.

J.A. (Butch) Fillingim, 75, was born January 29, 1942, and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his love ones on October 14, 2017. Butch loved brim fishing with his buddies and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching and seeing his grandsons in whatever activities they were involved in. He was a member of the Hadji Shriners Antique Car Unit. Butch was always busy working on something and was not one for sitting around. He loved his girls and grandsons dearly. He loved his Lord and Savior and was ready to meet Him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Mary Fillingim; brother, Skippy Scherffius; and sister, Mary Ann Clay.
He is survived by his daughters, Jan (Terry) Brown and Diana (Phillip) White; grandsons, Bo Brown, Brandon Brown, Phillip Paul White and Cody (Dezi) White; six great-grandchildren, Bryce, Kash, Beckham, Brantley, Addilyn and Ava; brother, Henry Fillingim; and sister, Kathy Jackson.
Pallbearers were Bo Brown, Brandon Brown, Phillip Paul White, Cody White, Hank Fillingim, Jud Fillingim, David Fillingim and Daniel Fillingim.
Honorary pallbearers were Henry Fillingim, Frank Fillingim and Clyde Creighton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Reverend Drayton Smith officiating.

Mrs. Sara Nell Transou Patrick, 60, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama.
Mrs. Patrick was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore, Alabama. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore. She is preceded in death by her husband, Foster Patrick; father, Sam Transou; grandparents, Alton and Florence Tennant; stepfather, Dr. James B. Thomas; and uncles, Dr. Harold Tennant and Curtis Tennant.
She is survived by her mother, Nell T. Thomas of Atmore, AL; and her sister, Teri Transou Turner of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Atmore with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.
Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Ragen, Eddie Lowery, Karl Robinson, Roger Owen, Hal Johnson and George McGhee.

Martha Mae Amos Carpenter, 75, of Oak Grove, FL, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017, at her residence. She was a License Practical Nurse and she also had worked as a substitute teacher at Ernest Ward School. She was born in Oak Grove, FL on July 18, 1942, to the late Russell and Grace Dunaway Amos. She was a member, organist and Sunday school teacher at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Grace Amos Smith and JoAnn Amos Sanders.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, George V. Carpenter of Oak Grove, FL; one son, George “Pete” (Cathie) Carpenter, Jr. of Okeechobee, FL; one daughter, Martha Kaye (Chris) Terry of Atmore, AL; grandchildren, Nolan, Cole, Caitlyn, Grace, Elizabeth, John, Jorge “J.W”.
Services were held Tuesday, October 17, 2017, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Butch Brown officiating.
Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Georgina Ann Brady, 41, of Pensacola, Florida, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017. Georgina was born in Washington, DC, February 29, 1976. She was a graduate of Tate High School and married her high school sweetheart, Chris Brady, Sr.
She was a successful business owner of “Temp Connections”. Gina loved Jesus and loved her children and family.
She is preceded in death by her son, Nicholas Ryan Brady and her grandparents, Margarite and Dominic DiFabrizio. She is survived by her children, Christopher Brady, Jr. and Nichole Brady; their father, Chris Brady, Sr.; her loving mother, Julie Roesle (Dennis); brother, Ryan Simms; sister, Lacy Roesle; grandparents, Robert and Carolyn Payne; stepfather, Art Simms and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews
Visitation will be Friday, October 20, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017, at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Serenity Springs Cemetery, Milton, FL.

John David Cotton, Sr.

John David Cotton, Sr.,84, of Walnut Hill, passed away October 16, 2017, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Mr. Cotton was born in Brewton, AL, September 12, 1933. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as a chemical operator from Monsanto after 38 years of employment. He was a member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Cotton was preceded in death by his parents, K.D. Cotton and Evelyn Lanier-Cotton, and his wife of 58 years, Joyce Green-Cotton.
Survivors include three children, John David Cotton, Jr. (Gail) of Walnut Hill, FL, Jennifer Woodfin (Walt) of Barrineau Park, FL, and Julie Miller (Chad) of Evergreen, AL, along with six grandchildren, Jonathan Cotton (Karmen), Allison Woodfin, Stewart Woodfin, Raeleigh Woodfin, Ansley Claire Miller, and John Ed Miller, three great-grandchildren, Kayley Cotton, Daizee Angus, and Zoey Angus.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 19, from 5:30 to 8:00 at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL, followed by funeral service Friday, October 20, at 11:00 am at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church, 5741 Arthur Brown Rd, Walnut Hill, FL, with Pastor Ted Bridges officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to the Walnut Hill Baptist Church building fund. The family would like to thank Covenant Care Hospice for their wonderful care and support.

Johnnie Wilson Davis

Johnnie Wilson Davis, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Grand Bay, Alabama on Monday afternoon, October 9, 2017.
Johnnie was born on September 5, 1934, in Davisville, Florida to the late Homer J. and Nellie Dove Davis. He was married to Gladys Smith Davis for almost 40 years. He lived in Cantonment, Florida and was a member of the First Baptist Church, prior to moving to Grand Bay. Johnnie was the Payroll Supervisor for St. Regis/Champion Paper Company, and retired with over 39 years of service. He was a willing employee that took pride in his work and made sure the job got done. He was a member of the Cantonment Volunteer Fire Department. Johnnie served in many capacities with Harvesters Federal Credit Union and Central Credit Union of Florida in the Tri-County Area, even after he retired. He was an avid fisherman, and an expert at sculling a boat and fly-fishing. He loved his family, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; three sisters; and his loving mother-in-law, Daisy Bray, who he dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Smith Davis of Grand Bay, Alabama; four daughters, Denise (Ed) Tisdale of Pace, Florida, Donna (Andy) Helms Thomason of Pensacola, Florida, Jeanie (Charlie) Tolbert of Grand Bay, Alabama, Janet (Monte) Necaise of Harlston, Mississippi; an adopted daughter, Debbie (Harry) Turner of Theodore, Alabama; as well as two brothers, Bobbie Davis of Stockton, Alabama and Jimmie (Sharon) Davis of Davisville, Florida; his sister, Eleanor (Tete) Stabler, of Greenville, Alabama; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were grandsons, Kyle Jernigan, Billy Helms, Mike Bradley, Jonathan Tisdale, Eric Raley, Daniel Necaise and Casey Necaise.
Services were held held Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore, Alabama, with Bro. Harry Turner officiating.
Burial was in Pine Barren Baptist Church Cemetery in Davisville, Florida.
