Manna Hat Auction: Bid On Hat Signed By Country Stars

The Manna Hat Auction is underway to help raise money for Manna Food Pantries in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

mannahat.jpgThe 2009 Manna Hat is a straw hat signed by country artists like Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Brooks and Dunn, Darius Rucker and more. The signatures on the hat were collected by Cat Country 98.7 morning show host Brent Lane.

Manna Food Pantries is a private, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to alleviating hunger in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties of Northwest Florida. Manna is nonsectarian, community focused, volunteer supported and committed to the philosophy, “waste not, want not.” Manna believes that every person has a right to live free from hunger and that every person is to be treated with respect and dignity.

Since then Manna have served over half a million people in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties in Florida, from Century to Navarre. Manna has given out over 6,000 tons of food to hungry families in our communities.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the auction will go to Manna Food Pantries of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties as they continue to help those in need from pantries in Pensacola, Ensley, Century, Jay, Molino and Milton.

Northview Winter Concert Tonight

 The Northview Performing Arts Department will present it’s 2009 Winter Concert featuring the NHS chorus and the NHS Jazz Band. The concert will take place in the Northview theater at 6:00 tonight.

Admission is just $1. Everyone is welcome to attend and support the performing arts programs at Northview.

Century Chamber Open House Today

The Century Chamber of Commerce will hold it annual Christmas Open House today from 3:00 until 6:00.

The open house will provide chamber members and prospective members to network, learn more about the chamber’s services and enjoy light refreshments at the same time.

Medical Call At Bratt Elementary

December 9, 2009

Emergency personnel were dispatched to Bratt Elementary School about 1:10 this afternoon for a medical call.

The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Atmore Ambulance and LifeFlight were called to the school for a person suffering from a medical condition.

Relay For Life Team Captain Party Tonight

A Century Relay for Life Team Captain Party will be held at 7:00 tonight at the Ag Building at the corner of  West Highway 4 and Industrial Boulevard in Century. It will be a chance for Relay volunteers to talk about next year’s relay and work on the all important planning for the Relay.

The theme of this month’s party is ‘More Birthdays and Christmases”, and teams are invited to decorate their table and dress for the party. There will be a table decorating contest and bonus spirit points for team members that are dressed in the party theme. Each team should provide one snack or treat for the group. There will be refreshments, information, entertainment and door prizes.

Anyone interested in forming a team for the Century Relay for Life is invited to attend the meeting. Teams are welcome from Century, Walnut Hill, Bratt, McDavid, Flomaton and surrounding areas — not just Century.

The 2010 Century Relay for Life will be the fourth in North Escambia supporting the American Cancer Society.

Temperatures will be in the middle 70’s early this week and rain returns to the Gulf Coast. By Thursday, a passing cold front will signal the return of cooler weather.

After a cold night in the 20’s, temperatures will rebound quickly into the middle 50’s with sunny skies by afternoon across the North Escambia area. But, by late afternoon, clouds will move in from the west as warmer air moves into the area.

Monday and Tuesday will be warmer, but there will be a good chance of rain both days.

Freeze Warning Tonight

North Escambia and Santa Rosa county are under a freeze warning tonight; while our friends in Escambia County, Ala., are under a hard freeze warning.

Tonight is going to be a cold one, with a forecast low in the 20’s. It will be all about location tonight, with places like Atmore, Flomaton, Century and Davisville getting down to about 24. Molino is forecast to bottom out at about 26, and Cantonment will be around 29. Either way, it’s time to take precautions to protect plants, pets, pipes and people for tonight.
