Fire Weather Warning; One Brush Fire Reported

A fire weather warning is in effect for this afternoon due to an elevated fire danger, and one North Escambia brush fire has been reported.

The small brush fire was reported about 2:45 p.m. on Occie Phillips Road near Walnut Hill. No structures were in danger from the fire. The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue quickly brought the fire under control.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are occurring now. A combination of strong winds and low relative humidity create enhanced fire growth potential. Outdoor burning is discouraged.

Tonight’s Century Relay Meetings Canceled

The Century Relay for Life meetings that were scheduled for tonight have been canceled. The steering committee will meet again on January 4; other meetings will be announced.

Forest Stewardship Video Conference Today For Landowners

A Forest Stewardship Video conference will be presented Tuesday by the Santa Rosa County Extension Office at the Jay Community Center at 5259 Booker Lane in Jay.

The event will provide an update on provisions that provide property tax exemption for real property dedicated in perpetuity for conservation, as well as a current use tax assessment of land used for conservation. Landowners will also learn how to apply for the exemptions.

Weather: Wind Chill Advisory, Hard Freeze Watch And Warning

There is a wind chill advisory in effect for the entire area for tonight. There is a hard freeze watch for residents of Florida and a hard freeze warning for residents of Alabama.

The wind chill advisory is from midnight tonight until 8 a.m. Monday for wind chills in the single digits. According to the National Weather Service, wind chills before 10 degrees can lead to frost bite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

Saturday Fun: Chumuckla Redneck Parade, BonfireJam

The Chumuckla Athletic Association will host it’s annual Chumuckla Redneck Parade on Saturday  at 2:00, to be followed by BonfireJam with country stars Rodney Atkins and Little Big Town.

The day will begin at 9:00 with a car and tractor show, rock climbing and jumpers, crafts, and lots of food.

Ticket prices for the  BonfireJam are $20 for general admission, $35 for preferred seating and $25 at the gate, while they last. The box office will open at 10 a.m. on the day of the show.

Children under the age of ten are free with purchase of an adult ticket for the general admission section only. General admission will be festival seating, so be sure to bring a lawn chair or blanket and arrive early, the gate opens at 3 p.m. and the concert starts at 5 p.m. Seating will be provided for preferred seating ticket holders.

Starting Saturday’s musical entertainment will be the Sawmill Band, which is the house band of the Famers Opry House in Chumuckla followed by Little Big Town at 6:30 and Atkins at 8 p.m.

The event funds Rednecks Caring at Christmas program that provides Christmas to the needy kids in the area.
