Saturday Sales To Benefit Community Groups

If you are looking for a few good bargains and want to help a community group at the same time, there are several yard sales and other events going on today. Each of the sales below will benefit the listed organization:
Cub Scout Yard Sale
A yard sale from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church will benefit Cub Scout Pack 430. The church is located on Highway 29 just south of Highway 97, Molino.
Guatemala Mission Trip Yard Sale
(Pictured top) A yard sale at 72 Nine Mile Road in front of Under Car Care and Performance will benefit an upcoming Highland Baptist Church mission trip to Guatemala. The event location is between Arby’s and Carquest, 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.
People To People China Trip
A yard sale will benefit 24 area students traveling to China with People to People. The sale will take place at Pine Forest High School, 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Church Yard Sale
A yard sale at Unity Baptist Church, Highway 31, Atmore, will benefit the church youth programs. 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Odds N’ Ends Thrift Store
The Century United Methodist Church Odds N’ Ends Thrift Store will be open Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at 530 Church Street in Century.

Free Freshwater Fishing In Florida This Weekend

Grab a pole — both Florida residents and nonresidents can fish in public fresh waters across the state this weekend.
The Florida Legislature and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have designated the first full weekend in April each year as Florida’s Free Freshwater Fishing Weekend, coinciding with Children & Nature Awareness Month.
While the public freshwater fishing is free Saturday and Sunday with no license needed, all other fishing rules apply. For more information, visit MyFWC.com/Fishing.

Cottage Hill Neighborhood Watch Organization Meeting Tonight

An organizational meeting for the new Cottage Hill Neighborhood Watch will take place this evening.
“From Jim Allen Elementary to McKenzie Road, we are taking back our streets, said Marsha Ryland, one of the driving forces behind the neighborhood watch group.
The meeting will take place at 6 pm. at the First Baptist Church of Cottage Hill, 230 Williams Ditch Road in Cantonment. Anyone in the Cottage Hill community is welcome to attend the meeting.
Monthly Barrineau Park Music Tonight

There will be plenty of good entertainment on stage tonight in Barrineau Park — and it’s free. The monthly Barrineau Park Music Night will be tonight at the Barrineau Park Community Center. The featured local groups tonight are The Wayfarers and TruGrass.
The singing starts at 6:30 p.m. Food and refreshments will also be available beginning at 6 p.m.
The event is family-friendly — no alcohol is permitted on the property, and no smoking is allowed in or near the building.

Blood Drive Today In Walnut Hill

A blood drive will take place today in Walnut Hill. The Northwest Florida Blood Services Bloodmobile will be at Walnut Hill Fire Department from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Today Is The Deadline To Pay Property, Intangible Taxes

If you have not paid your real estate or tangible personal property taxes yet, Thursday is the last day to pay to avoid late fees. All unpaid taxes will be delinquent April 1, according to Escambia County Tax Collector Janet Holley. A penalty of three percent for real estate and 1.5 percent for tangible taxes will be assessed on April 1. Over $33 million (approximately 13 percent) of the tax roll remained unpaid as of last week.
Payments will be accepted without penalty if:
- mailed with a postmark by March 31
- left in a 24-hour drop box available at all offices by midnight March 31
- made on the tax collector web site by midnight March 31
- made by phone with credit card on an after-hours automated service at (800) 601‑1055 by midnight March 31 (convenience fee applies)
You may check the status of your taxes and pay online at www.escambiataxcollector.com. If you have any questions, please call the tax collector’s office at (850) 438-6500, ext. 252.
Northview Forming Dance Team

Northview High School is forming a dance team.
There will be a meeting and sign up for prospective members Friday morning at 8:30 in the school library. Tryouts will be April 4, 6, and 8 from 7:20 until 8:20 a.m.
The dance team will be under the leadership of Heather Leonard of Heather Leonard’s Danceworks.
