18th Annual 4-H and FFA Youth Livestock Show And Farm Expo Today

The 18th annual Gulf Coast Agriculture and Natural Resources Association annual Spring Livestock Show will continue today at the Langley Bell 4-H Center on 9 Mile Road in Beulah.
4-H and FFA members in Escambia, Baldwin, and Mobile counties in Alabama, and Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton counties in Florida will show their breeding heifers, preview steers, goats, sheep, rabbits, and poultry during the event.
The show will conclude with an auction at 5 p.m., where market animal participants will be selling their steer, swine, and goat projects.
The schedule of events is as follows:
- Swine Show: 9:00-11:00 a.m.
- Poultry & Rabbit Show: 9:30-11:00 a.m.
- Goat & Lamb Show: 11:00-11:30 a.m.
- Lunch
- Market Steer Show: 12:00-1:30 p.m.
- Preview Steer Show: 1:30-2:00 p.m.
- Beef Breeding Show: 2:30-5:00 p.m.
- Livestock Sale: 5:30 p.m.
The Langley Bell 4-h Center is located at 4810 West 9 Mile Road, one mile west of I-10. The public is invited to attend.
GCA and NRA is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for youth with livestock projects. All sponsorships, sales proceeds, and donations are returned to participants through award premiums.
Area Mayors To Discuss Economic Development

The mayors of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties will come together today to take part in the second “Escambia-Santa Rosa County Mayors Panel” discussion.
From the North Escambia area, Mayors Freddie McCall of Century and Mayor Kurvin Qualls of Jay will join Milton Mayor Guy Thompson, Mayor Beverly Zimmern of Gulf Breeze and Pensacola City Council President Maren DeWeese to discuss regional economic development.
Pensacola Chamber of Commerce CEO Jim Hizer will also address the group.
The event is sponsored by the Pensacola Bay Area Women’s Council of Realtors.
You Could Win A Vehicle: Golf Tourney To Benefit Molino Park

You can play a little golf and help Molino Park Elementary School’s PTA at the same time on Saturday. And you might even win a new vehicle.
The Second Annual Molino Park Elementary School Golf Tournament will be Saturday at the Cypress Lake Golf Course (formerly Solutia). Registration will be at 7:30 a.m., and tee time is 9 a.m.
There is a hole in one challenge prize of a new vehicle from World Ford. There will also be door prizes.
Registration is $50 per person, with a team of four required. The cost includes use of a golf cart and lunch.

5K Run/Walk Set For Saturday

Atmore Family Medicine’s Relay for Life will sponsor a 5K Run/Walk this Saturday at 8 a.m.
Preregistration at the Atmore Family Medicine office is $15 for adults and $10 for students; registration the day of the event is $20 for adults, $15 for students. Race packet pickup will be from 7:15 until 7:45 a.m. on race day. The first 100 preregistered participants will receive a t-shirt.

Storm Cleanup Continues

The cleanup is continuing around the area this morning following last night’s storm.
No injuries were reported, but numerous trees and power lines were downed across the area. For more details on damages, click here.

Escambia Extension Seeks Community Input Tuesday PM

The Escambia Extension Service wants your input as they develop a community vision for programs in Escambia County.
The Extension Service will host a public information meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5 at the Century Ag Building on West Highway 4. Topics of interest at the meeting will include:
- Strengths of our community
- What we value in our community
- Issues and trends impacting our community
- Ways to deliver educational programs
- How to reach underserved audiences
- What priority should be placed on each issue
- How Florida extension educational programs can address these issues

Century Chamber To Hold General Meeting Thursday

The Century Chamber of Commerce will hold a general meeting with the board of directors and all members at noon this Thursday.
The meeting will take place at the Century Community Center (Ag Building) on West Highway 4. All members of the chamber and those who are interested in the progress of Century are invited.

The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for
…western Escambia County in south central Alabama…
* until 930 PM CDT
* at 826 PM CDT…National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter size
hail…and destructive winds in excess of 70 mph. These storms
were located along a line extending from 20 miles west of
Selmont to 14 miles south of Bay St. Louis…and moving east at 55
mph.
This includes Interstate 10 in Alabama between mile markers 1 and 45.
This includes Interstate 65 between mile markers 1 and 81.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
Doppler radar has indicated some weak rotation within these storms.
While not immediately likely…a tornado may still develop. If a
tornado is spotted…act quickly and move to a place of safety in a
sturdy structure…such as a basement or small interior room.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 100 am CDT Tuesday morning
for southwestern Alabama and northwest Florida and southeast
Mississippi.
