Tate Freshmen Orientation Thursday
August 8, 2012
Tate High School will host their Freshmen Transition Program on Thursday.
Incoming freshmen are invited for a quick “camp” at Tate. They will have the opportunity to meet with club sponsors and coaches, and will have small groups sessions with Tate Leadership students to answer an questions the students may have.
With over 10 different buildings on a large campus to explore, the freshmen will go through a scavenger hunt and a campus tour.
At the end of the program, students will receive their schedules for the upcoming school year, and Leadership students will help them find their classes.
The program take place on Thursday from 8 a.m. until noon, beginning in the Fryman Gymnasium.
The first day of school is Monday, August 20.

New Century Family Dollar Set To Open Thursday

The new Family Dollar store in Century is set to open was work continues on a store in Jay.
The Century store will open on Thursday morning. The Jay store should be open in time for the holidays, according to Josh Braverman, communications director for Family Dollar.
“We look forward to opening our stores in Century and Jay,” Braverman said.
Both the Century and Jay stores will average 8-10 employees. Applications will be accepted online at www.familydollar.com.
Family Dollar currently operates 7,200 stores in 45 states with about 50,000 team members. The small format convenience and value retailer offers a mix of everyday use name brand products including food and paper products, household items, seasonal products, clothing and more.

Traffic Alert: Delays All Day At I-10, Nine Mile Road

Fall Ball Registrations Set For NWE, Molino, Cantonment

NWE Bradberry Park
NWE will pursue the park’s first Fall Ball program for the Walnut Hill, Century, and Atmore area. Baseball is for children 5 to 15, and softball is open to ages 7 to 16. Games will run mid-September until the end of October.
Players will be registered at Bradberry Park in Walnut Hill with no money collected at the time of registration. A $50 registration fee will be collected when teams are created; the fee will cover park expenses and a player team shirt. Each team will also raise $5 per player, per game for umpire fees
NWE Fall Ball registraition will be held:
Friday, August 11, 10 a.m. – noon
Friday, August 17, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 18, 10 a.m. – noon
Saturday, August 25, 10 a.m. – noon

Molino Ballpark
Sign ups are underway for Fall Ball at the Molino Ballpark.
Registration will take place every Saturday in August from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the board room at the ballpark. Fall ball is for all ages — tee ball, baseball and softball. $35 per player.
Cantonment Ballpark
Fall Ball registration will be held Saturday, August 11 from 10 a.m. until noon.
Registration is $40 per player for all ages, no birth certificate needed, at the ballpark on Well Line Road. The Fall Ball parent meeting will be held Monday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Wreck Near Atmore Claims Life
August 4, 2012
At least one person was reportedly killed in a wreck north of Atmore Friday night.
The near head-on collision happened before 11 p.m. on Highway 21 near Fountain Prison. One person was also airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola by LifeFlight.
The accident is under investigation by Alabama State Troopers. Further details have not yet been released.
