Two Farmer’s Markets Open Today Despite Rain Chance

Two local markets will be open today, rain or shine, offering fresh produce and much more.
The Market at Saint Monica’s is open the first and third Saturdays of each month (including today) from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Items expected include fresh produce, meat, prepared foods, plants, jewelry, baked goods, hair bows ,fresh cut flowers, arts, crafts and more.
The Market at Saint Monica’s in the parking lot of Saint Monica’s Episcopal Church, 699 South Highway 95-A, Cantonment.
As it enters its sixth season, the Palafox Market continues to expand with new vendors and more products. Customers have Saturdays to browse the unique goods offered by local farmers, gardeners, artisans and bakers.
The Palafox Market is every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. rain or shine. The market is located under the shade trees in Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza on North Palafox Street between Garden and Wright Streets. Ronald McDonald House Firecracker 5K Set For Saturday

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida is accepting registrations for their annual Firecracker 5K Run, Walk and Wheelchair Race, presented by Honest Tea. The event will be held on Saturday, July 6 beginning at 7:30 a.m. near Seville Quarter in Downtown Pensacola. Even the tiniest athletes are invited to join in the Coca Cola Free Fun Run after the 5K.
Registration is $27 in advance or $32 at packet pick up or on race day. Late Registration, Packet Pick-Up and Race Expo will be held on Friday, July 5 from 12 to 7 p.m. at Running Wild and from 6 to 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 at Seville Quarter.
The first 1,000 to register will receive a t-shirt. Tote bags will go to the first 500 registrants. Participants are encouraged to celebrate the patriotic occasion by wearing red, white and blue. For those who want to Rock our Socks, red and white striped socks are available for $7. Vendor booths and sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Fireworks Show Guide

Here’s a guide to public Fourth of July Fireworks shows across the North Escambia area:
For the 24th year, Sertoma organizations will coordinate and host the fireworks display over Pensacola Bay on Thusday, July 4th, at 9:00 p.m.
There will be activities throughout the day, from 11:00 am until 6:30 pm, in Seville Square to include a FREE Children’s Area with inflatables and pony rides, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, and live entertainment on the gazebo stage beginning at 11:00 a.m. There is also a hot dog eating contest at noon.
Starting at 4 p.m., there will be live music on the Bayfront Stage. The festivities will culminate with the fireworks show over Pensacola Bay at about 9 p.m. synchronized with music broadcast on Cat Country 98.7.
Jay
The Town of Jay and the Jay Area Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Thursday, July 4 with a fireworks show set to begin around dusk. at Bray-Hendricks City Park. Food vendors and arts and crafts vendors will be on hand. There will also be a kids’ fun center with a large slide and bounce house. Admission to the park is free. No pets.
East Brewton
The Fort Crawford Commission will celebrate Thursday, July 4, with a fun-filled day beginning at 9 a.m. at Fort Crawford Park and ending with a fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
Bay Minette
The City of Bay Minette will host a fireworks show on Thursday, July 4, beginning about dusk behind Simmons Field.
Riverfest 2013: A Celebration of Freedom
Riverfest will be held Thursday, July 4 in Milton. Festivities include the 12th annual Firecracker Bike Show at 9 a.m., a Freedom Car Show at 9 a.m., the Treasure Island Children’s Activity Area opening at 11 a.m., theannual Great Mill Town Duck Race at 5 p.m., Franklin’s Tower Band at 5:30 p.m., a Veteran’s Salute at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza and karaoke at 7 p.m. The day will end with a fireworks display over the Blackwater River at dark.

Fireworks are over Santa Rosa Sound, just offshore from Quietwater Beach. Fireworks 8:30 p.m.. on Thursday, July 4. Best views from the Portofino Boardwalk or Quietwater Beach.
Celebrate Freedom 5K And One Mile Fun Run

The 14th Celebrate Freedom 5K And One Mile Fun Run will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 4 at the Jay City Park, 5259 Booker Lane.
Course: The race starts and finishes at the Jay City Park. The course is scenic running through the neighboring countryside and looping around the local Jay Elementary and Jay High School campus. The last half of the course is run on a paved road that splits cotton and peanut fields on both sides. The course is basically flat and makes for fast times, according to organizers.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of 30 age groups. Overall awards will be given in several categories. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 60 runners.
Watermelon and refreshments will be served to all participants following the race.
