Subway All-Star High School Volleyball Game Tonight

November 19, 2013

The Subway-High School All-Star Volleyball Game will take place tonight, featuring the best senior volleyball players from Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties.

Tickets are $7 or $5 with a canned food donation to the Manna Food Bank. The game begins at 6 p.m. at the University of West Florida Field House.

The West Team (representing Escambia County) will be coached by Northview High School’s Barbara Luker and David Bryant from West Florida High School.

Members of the West Team are: Lauren Merts (Tate), Lily Townson, Danielle Steadham, Rebecca Grim, Tiffani Pritchett, and Lana Clayton (Northview), Cara McDaniel and Mallory Herrmann (Catholic), Jennifer Werner (Washington); Maddy Lopez, Rachel George, Casey Melvin, and Amanda Davis (West Florida High), Allison Palmer, Megan Kirst, and Brittany Delone (Pine Forest), Yenny Wu Ho (Pensacola High) and  Tyaina Colston (Escambia).

Century Moving Foward With Barnyard Animal Regulations

The Century Town Council is moving forward with an ordinance to deal with barnyard animals in the town limits.

Under the ordinance, it will be illegal to keep a horse, mule, donkey, goat, sheep, or cow within the town limits except in areas that are zoned agricultural or rural residential. Hogs are already prohibited in all areas of the town.

The ordinance set minimum lot sizes in the agricultural and rural residential areas in order to keep livestock. A minimum lot size of one acre per horse or donkey will be required, and a minimum lot size of one-half acre per goat will also be required.

Structures for livestock, such as barns, feed lots and stables, shall not be located within 200 feet of a dwelling belonging to another individual or within 200 feet of property that is zoned residential. In addition, all barnyard animals and livestock must be kept at least 200 feet from any property line.

The Century Town Council will hold a required first reading of the ordinance during their regular meeting tonight. A second reading and a public hearing will be held on December 2 before the council votes on making it law. Both meetings are open to the public at 7 p.m.

Bull Riding, Barrel Racing To Benefit Tate Grad

The James C. Robinson Escambia County Equestrian Center will host the Pensacola’s Southern Extreme Bull Riding & Barrel Racing event Saturday Gates open at 6 p.m. and the performances start at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, a local 5-D barrel race will begin at 10:30 a.m. benefitting Katelyn Godwin, Pensacola native and recent graduate of Tate High School, who has been diagnosed with a central giant cell granuloma tumor. A full-service concession stand will be open during the events as well as pony rides for the children.

Concession proceeds benefit the Northview FFA.

Deputies Seek Missing, Endangered Adult

November 15, 2013

Update:  Clyde Darnell Golston was located in another state and is safe.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a missing, endangered adult.

Clyde Darnell Golston, 55, was last seen at a caretaker’s residence in the 7800 block of Herrington Drive in Pensacola about 2:00 Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office said Friday afternoon.

He was last seen wearing a beige jacket and blue pants. His whereabouts are unknown. He is black male with black hair, brown eyes, about six-feet tall and weighing 180 pounds.

The provided photo of Golston is about 12 years old.

Anyone with information regarding Golstonis urged to contact the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620.

Extreme Bull Riding, Barrel Racing Benefit Tonight, Saturday

A rodeo benefiting cancer patient Katelyn Godwin will be held tonight and Saturday night at the Pensacola Equestrian Center on Mobile Highway.

Gates open at 6 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. performance of Pensacola’s Southern Extreme Bull Riding and Barrel Racing . The event feature Rocking Robbie Hodges, the NFR Barrel Man of the Year and Extreme Trick Rider Gena Cox.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for 10 and under, and free for age 5 and under.

Katelynn Godwin, a 2013 Tate High School graduate, was recently diagnosed with a Central Giant Cell Granuloma Tumor and will undergo a series of treatments in the next few months in hopes of stopping tumor growth. A portion of the proceeds benefit her medical expenses.

The Northview High School FFA is in charge of concessions at the event and will receive all concession profits.
