Free Emergency Preparedness Training Offered Beginning Tonight

The Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies (BRACE) and the Century Town Council will offer a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course  for North Escambia residents.

A CERT training open house will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Ag Building at the corner of Industrial Boulevard and West Highway 4 in Century. Trainees will attend six additional sessions to be held during February and March.

The free training will include information on disaster response skills,as emergency preparedness, fire safety and suppression, light search and rescue, terrorism, CERT organization, shelter operations and  disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during hands-on  activities, CERT members can assist their neighbors, others in their community and workplace following a disaster event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT  members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in the community.

Previously trained CERT members are encouraged to update their skills by participating in the training.

One More Peformance Of ‘Good News’ Tonight At Tate High

The Tate High School Drama Department will present the popular 1920’s musical “Good News” on the school cafetorium stage at 7:00 tonight.   Tickets are $10  for reserved section and $7 for general admission.

“Good News” takes place on the campus of Tait College.  This musical tells the story of a star football player who will not be allowed to play in the big game due to failing an exam, and it is up to the new teacher to decide if he will be given a second chance to pass.  Popular songs include “You’re the Cream in my Coffee”, “Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries” and the popular dance number “Varsity Drag”.

Frances Kee Morgan

Frances Kee Morgan, 82, of Cantonment, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Morgan’s favorite hobby was reading. After she lost her eyesight she listened to audio books. She also loved to surf fish, especially with her husband. For many years she attended Aldersgate Methodist Church and Allen Memorial Methodist Church. She enjoyed eating at area restaurants.The joy of her life was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence H. Morgan, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Nicholson (Donnie), Mona Ward and Janet Morgan; son, Clarence (Teet) Morgan III (Lesa); eight grandchilden, 15 great-grandchildren and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Reverend Rian Kegerreis officiating.

Interment will follow at Aldersgate Cemetery.
