Christmas Parades Continue Today (With Mega List)

Christmas parades are continuing today across the area. Here’s a list of area parades, followed by a complete mega list:
December 14 — Chumuckla Redneck Parade
The Chumuckla Redneck Christmas Parade will be Saturday, December 14 at 1 p.m. The parade will begin at the Cotton Gin on Chumuckla Springs Road/Gin Road, cross Chumuckla Highway and end at Salter Road. More than 250 units are expected along the 1.5 mile parade route.
December 14 – Brewton Christmas Parade
The Brewton Christmas Parade will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 14. The parade will travel from Forrest Avenue in East Brewton, across the Mildred Street Bridge to St. Joseph Street to Belleville Avenue.
December 14 — Atmore Christmas Parade
The Atmore 2013 Twilight Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, December 14 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The parade will follow its traditional route from the Atmore City Hall, down Main Street, to Lindberg Avenue and ending at Escambia County High School. Over two dozen floats are entered, along with several bands and numerous other groups. Parade participants should be at the Atmore City Hall by 4 p.m.
December 14 — Pensacola Christmas Parade
The Pensacola Christmas Parade will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 14 in downtown Pensacola. Featuring local bands. Parade begins at Spring and Garden and travels through downtown.

Two Tax Collector Offices Closing Early Friday
December 13, 2013
Two Escambia County Tax Collector offices will close early Friday. Both the Marcus Pointe (6451 North W Street) and Warrington (507 N. Navy Boulevard) locations will close at 2 p.m. These two branches are closing early to accommodate a state-ordered replacement of computer equipment.
The downtown (213 Palafox Place) and Molino (6440 Highway 95 A) locations will be open their normal business hours.
Toyz For Kidz Ride Saturday To Help Those In Need

Santa will have some very special helpers on Saturday as the LA Bikers roll across the area to make sure needy kids get a Christmas present.
The 13th Annual Toyz for Kidz Bike Ride will raise funds for the program and distribute toys to families in need.
The event begins at David’s Catfish on South Main Street in Atmore with registration from 9-10 a.m. The ride will begin at 10, and it will end back in Atmore with lunch and a prize drawing.

Ransom Gifted Students Hosting Chick-fil-A Spirit Night

Ransom Middle School’s eighth grade gifted students will be hosting a Chick-fil-A spirit night from 5:00-8:00 p.m. tonight at the Nine Mile Road store location.
The proceeds from the patrons dining-in or going through drive-thru will be donated to the “Toys for Tots” program. This is the third year for this event and the school would like to make it even better this year.
Anyone interested in helping out can drop toys or donations off at Chick-fil-A tonight night or go to Ransom Middle before December 18, 2013. For more information, contact Lori Johnson, Gifted Language Arts 6-8 at Ransom Middle School, at (850) 937-2220.
Christmas Parade Tonight In Century

For the first time in several years, a Christmas parade will roll through Century this evening.
The parade will line-up beginning at 4 p.m. on Front Street and will begin at 5 p.m. The route will go from Front Street to Jefferson Avenue, turn onto Pond Street, cross Highway 29 to West Pond and turn onto Highway 4 to Lake Stone.
Additional festivities will take place at Lake Stone with Christmas Carols, lighted floats on the lake and Santa Claus. BBQ sack dinners will be available for a $5 donation, the Lions Club will offer hot chocolate and cookies and the Century Lodge will have homemade fried pork skins.

Editor’s note: Portions of the parade route are unlit and very dark, especially West Highway 4 from Industrial Drive to Lake Stone where there are few, or even no, street lights.

Fall Veggie Field Day Is Friday

The Gulf Coast Small Farms and Enterprises Fall Vegetable Field Day will take place Friday.
The event will be held at the UF/IFAS West Florida Research and Education Center, 4253 Experiment Drive in Jay, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Attendees will learn about production practices including planting and harvesting recommendations, insect management, healthy food ideas and techniques. Available crops include Swiss chard, turnips, rutabagas, collards and more.
