Large Control Burn Today In Beulah

A 146-acre control burn is planned for today along the Perdido River in the Beulah area. The fire near the end of Frank Reeder Road and Smallwood Drive, is expected to create a visible smoke plume for the most of the day.
The burn is expected to begin by about 9:30 a.m.
Dove Award Winning Couple To Perform Saturday During Miss NHS Pageant

Husband and wife Dove Award winners Candi and Jonathan Shelton will provide the entertainment during Saturday night’s Miss Northview pageant.
Candi Shelton is a singer, songwriter, voiceover artist and published author based in Atlanta. For the last 15 years, she has worked with a long list of artists, served as a worship leader with Passion Conferences for six years and performed on may of Integrity Music’s collaborative worship albums.
Candi wrote and performed the title track on the Glory Revealed album, a multi-artist collaboration with Mac Powell of Third Day, Shane & Shane and Brian Littrell of The Backstreet Boys. Her work on the project earned her a Dove Award.
She is a Northview High School graduate and a former Miss NHS.
Her husband Jonathan is an Atlanta born and raised musician. A career guitar player, he has been writing and performing since high school as part of many local Atlanta bands and performing at many of Atlanta’s large music festivals.
Jonathan has shared the stage with Fuel, Edwin McCain, Brand New Immortals, Sister Hazel, Live, Maroon Five, and many others. Jonathan was a singer and songwriter for the Glory Revealed 2 Album, which garnered him a Dove Award and included artists such as Sara Evans, Bear Rinehart of NeedToBreathe and Mac Powell of Third Day.
Candi and Jonathan Shelton’s performance is included in the price of admission to the Miss Northview pageant at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at the Northview front office.
Northview Softball, Baseball Rescheduled

Due to field conditions, today’s Northview baseball and softball games have been rescheduled.
Tonight’s baseball games against Escambia Academy will be played Saturday. Junior varsity will play at 11 a.m., and the varsity will take the field at 1 p.m.
Tonight’s NHS softball games at Chipley have been been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 18.

Ernest Ward Registration Night; Ransom Middle Spirit Night

There will be Registration Night tonight at Ernest Ward Middle School, while Ransom Middle School sixth graders will host a Spirit Night to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Ernest Ward Middle School will host a registration night from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet teachers, explore course offerings for next school year, and complete their registration card.
Ransom Spirit Night
Ransom Middle School sixth graders will host a Chick-fil-A Spirit Night at the Nine Mile Road location from 5-8 p.m. Proceeds from this event will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Anyone interested should visit Chick-fil-A between 5-8 p.m. and ask the cashier to donate their receipt. There will be a tip jar located at the event as well.

Free Emergency Preparedness Training Offered Beginning Tonight

The Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies (BRACE) and the Century Town Council will offer a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course for North Escambia residents.
A CERT training open house will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Ag Building at the corner of Industrial Boulevard and West Highway 4 in Century. Trainees will attend six additional sessions to be held during February and March.
The free training will include information on disaster response skills,as emergency preparedness, fire safety and suppression, light search and rescue, terrorism, CERT organization, shelter operations and disaster medical operations.
Using the training learned in the classroom and during hands-on activities, CERT members can assist their neighbors, others in their community and workplace following a disaster event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in the community.
Previously trained CERT members are encouraged to update their skills by participating in the training.
