Alabama Conducting Reverse Traffic Exercise Today

The Alabama Department of Transportation will conduct its annual rehearsal of the plan that helped safely evacuate the Gulf Coast during Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and Hurricane Dennis in 2005.

On Thursday around 200 ALDOT workers and a contingency of state troopers and Alabama National Guard personnel will be positioned along I-65 between Baldwin County and Montgomery to simulate the activity associated with reversing I-65 traffic during an emergency such as hurricanes.

Traffic will not be reversed or detoured anywhere along I-65 during the reverse lane training exercise, but every other portion of the plan will be simulated.

Subway All-Star Baseball, Softball Games Tonight At UWF

The SUBWAY High School All-Star 2013-14 Series continues tonight with baseball and softball games at UWF’s Jim Spooner Field in Pensacola.

The softball game will begin at 6 p.m. with the baseball game following at 6:30 p.m. Prior to each game players from both sides will compete for the homerun king/queen title. Both games will feature West Team seniors from Escambia County against East Team senior stars from Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties.

The East Team softball is coached by Melinda Wyatt of Tate High, and the West Team baseball is coached by Martin Lister from Northview High.

Entry to the SUBWAY High School All-Star Game is $8 at the gate. As a response to the recent flood in the area and an ongoing partnership with the Manna Food Pantry, the Pensacola Sports Association will donate $2 dollars of every ticket sold to the Manna Food Pantry to help aid their efforts in these trying times. This is the fourth year PSA has partnered with Manna Food Pantry and collected food goods and money at the games.  Over 4,500 pounds of canned goods have been collected and donated to the Manna Food pantry in the last four years.

Jail Video Visitation To Be Interupted Tuesday

Escambia County Corrections says that their video visitation service will be taken offline from 7 a.m. until noon on Tuesday.. The temporary suspension of the service will allow for the system to be fully upgraded. The upgrades should be completed by the end of the business day Tuesday.

The Escambia County Correction’s Office offers video visitation for inmates at the Escambia County Jail, Work Camp and Work Release sites through the Video Visitation Center located at 1190 West Leonard Street.

Currently, video visitation for inmates at the Work Camp and Work Release facilities are available on a first come, first serve basis. A specific schedule for available visitation times for inmates at the Work Camp and the Work Release facilities will be announced as soon as scheduling is available.

Visitations for inmates at the Main Jail can be scheduled on the MyEscambia.com website or by the kiosk located in the lobby of the Video Visitation Center.

The Escambia County Correction’s Video Visitation Center operates seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m

Escaped Prisoner On The Run Near Jacks Branch Road

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Escambia County Road Prison and other agencies are searching for an escaped Escambia County Road Prison inmate in the area of Jacks Branch Road and Schifko Road this afternoon.

Escambia County officials said 25-year old Nolan Ray McDaniel has been on the run since  about 1:30 after he was discovered missing from a work site. He is possibly shirtless at this time, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

McDaniel, according to jail records, was arrested April 18 on charges of methamphetamine production, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a listed chemical. His jury trial was set to begin on July 14.

Anyone in the area the sees McDaniel should call 911.

Tuesday: EWMS Band, Chorus Spring Concert; Tate Concert Band Spring Event

The Ernest Ward Middle School Band and Chorus, and the Tate High School concert bands will hold spring concerts on Tuesday.

The Ernest Ward Middle School Chorus and Band will hold a Spring Concert Tuesday from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Guest should bring a folding chair or blanket and meet at the bus ramp in front of the school for an evening of listening pleasure. The concert is free, but an available meal will be $5 for a BBQ sandwich, chips and a drink. Advance meal tickets may be purchased from EWMS Band or Chorus members. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the gym.

The Tate High School concert bands will present their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 20th at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. The concert will include a tribute to Erin Benson as the Wind Ensemble will perform a piece based on the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul” conducted by Joe Hooten and will feature  Leslie Ann Godwin with vocals.  Admission is free.

Everything Is Free At Yard Sale Today Just For Flood Victims

The First Baptist Church of Cantonment is holding a “Free Yard Sale” today.

The church and Molino Park Elementary School teamed up to collect items…all of which will be free for flood victims to stop by and get what they need. The “Free Yard Sale” for flood victims will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Cantonment at 118 Morris Avenue.

Available items include clothes, shoes, new undergarments, bedding, nonperishable food and toiletries.

Tate Band To Present Spaghetti Jazz Dinner And Concert Tonight

The Tate High School Jazz Bands will present their Spaghetti Jazz Dinner/Concert  at 6:30 tonight in the school cafeteria.  Admission is $5 and proceeds this year will go to help two Tate Band families who lost their home in the recent floods.

The Tate Concert Bands will present their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 20th at Hillcrest Baptist Church at  6:30 p.m.   This Concert will include a tribute to Erin Benson as the Wind Ensemble will perform a piece based on the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul” conducted by Joe Hooten and will feature Leslie Ann Godwin with vocals.  Admission is free.
