Saturday: Molino Fire Station Open House, Live Burn Demonstrations

The Molino Station of Escambia Fire Rescue will hold an open house, lunch and live fire hoiday demonstrations on Saturday.

The event begins will an open house and hamburger and hot dog lunch from 11:30 until 1:00. The holiday safety, arson K-9 and live fire demonstrations will follow from 1:00 until  1:30.

The Molino Volunteer Fire Department is actively seeking volunteers for emergency and non-emergency operations.  Applications are accepted from persons age 16 and older. The Molino Fire Station is part of Escambia Fire Rescue and provides emergency services to the Molino community.

Positions needed include clerical assistance,  medical first responders, apparatus operators and firefighters. Free training is provided and includes junior firefighters 16 to 18 who can earn valuable credit for Bright Futures Scholarships through volunteer service and training.

Numerous members of the Molino Fire Station have moved on to paid firefighter, EMT and paramedic careers over the years. Officers and firefighters will be on hand during the open house to answer questions and assist with new applications.  If you are interested in volunteering but cannot attend the open house, contact Molino  Fire Chief Kenny Ashcraft at molinovfd@gmail.com.

Peanut Butter Drive Concludes Today

The Escambia County Extension office, Santa Rosa County Extension office along with the University of Florida Institute of Food & Agricultural Sciences and the Florida Peanut Producer Association are collecting peanut butter through today to help take a bite out of hunger.

The groups are accepting donations of unopened jars of peanut butter to be donated to local food pantries during Farm-City Week.

Unopened jars of peanut butter of any brand can be dropped off until this afternoon at any of the following locations:

Escambia County

  • Escambia County Extension Office, 3740 Stefani Road, Cantonment
  • Escambia County Farm Bureau, 153 Highway 97, Molino
  • Escambia County Public Safety, 6575 North W Street
  • Gilmore Services, 31 East Fairfield Drive

Santa Rosa County

Tate Aggies Student Family Night

The Tate High School Aggies will hold a a “Student Family Night” beginning at 5:00 tonight in the school courtyard. There will be free pizza and drinks. The Aggies football players will hold join the students for a time to “reflect back and cheer forward before Friday’s game”. The  Tate Aggies will travel to Niceville Friday night for a second round playoff game against Niceville.

Last Day For Molino Park Food Drive Donations

Molino Park Elementary School has been accepting non-perishable food items during their “Fill Your Neighbor’s Plate” food drive to stock the food pantry at Aldersgate United Methodist Church for Thanksgiving.  Today is the last day for donations, with donations accepted through a 7 p.m. stargazing event on the school campus. Student Led Worship Event Planned Tonight At Northview

The Northview High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is sponsoring a student led worship event tonight in the school gymnasium.

Northview students, area churches and community members will come together to worship, share student testimonies and hear a message from guest speaker Pastor Nathan Brown of Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the event from 6-8 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the family of Darion Riley, a Northview student that passed away earlier this month as the result of a traffic accident in Molino.

Northview To Host PLT Performance Of ‘The Things They Carried’

On Wednesday, Northview will host a group from the Pensacola Little Theatre as they perform a staged reading of Tim O’Brien’s “The Things They Carried”, a novel about the lasting impact of the Vietnam War.

The production is being offered in association with The Big Read Grant,a program of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to revitalize the role of reading in American culture by exposing citizens to great works of literature and encouraging them to read for pleasure.

Northview juniors and seniors will attend the 40 minute program beginning at 10 a.m. Northview family members and the public are welcome to attend.

Molino Park Wins $25K Grant

Molino Park Elementary School has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund’s America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program.

Representatives from the school and Monsanto will participate in a check presentation Thursday night during school stargazing event. The grant will purchase the iPads to advance technology in implementing core standards in reading, science and math.

Earlier this year, Molino Park turned to NorthEscambia.com to encourage local farmers to nominate and support the school’s efforts to win the grant.
