May 12, 2015

The Escambia County Mosquito Control Division plans a “fogging mission” in a large area of North Escambia generally from 6 to 10 p.m. today.

The spray area is generally north of the Highway 29 and Highway 97 intersection to the Alabama state line, more specifically  east of Highway 29 from the Alabama state line south to Barth Road (map), west of North Highway 99 to the Perdido River and south of the state line to Arthur Brown Road, east of Highway 97 and west of Highway 29 south to the Tom Thumb (map), and east of Highway 99 to Highway 29 from the state line south to Roach Road (map).

Methods used to determine necessary fogging mission activity include dry ice-baited light traps, landing rate counts and receiving focally located service requests from the public.

Lillian King Museum To Be Dedicated Monday; Town Hall Meeting To Follow

May 10, 2015

The Molino Mid-County Historical Society Museum in Molino will be official dedicated Monday afternoon as the “Lillian F. King Museum” in a ceremony just before a town hall meeting.

The museum is being renamed in honor of Lil King, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Molino Community Complex — housing the museum, the Molino Branch of the West Florida Public Library, multiple meeting rooms, and an auditorium — in the former Molino Elementary School.

She also established the Molino Mid-County Historical Society in 1999, of which she served as president from the museum’s inception in 2013 until her passing in February 2015.

The dedication ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday.  A town hall meeting with District 5 Escambia County Commissioner Steven Barry will follow at 5:30 p.m. Both events will take place at the Molino Community Complex at 6450 Highway 95A in Molino.

May 9, 2015

There’s one more chance for you to see the Northview High School Theatre Department presentation of the Broadway musical “Hairspray” tonight.

It’s 1962, and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire – to dance  on the popular “Corny Collins Show.”  When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. It is a show that’s great for the entire family.

Tonight’s performance will be at 7:00 in the Northview Theatre. Ticket are $8 at the door while they last. The opening night performance of the musical was Friday night.

NorthEscambia.com will publish a complete photo gallery on Sunday.

Don’t Forget Letter Carriers Food Drive On Saturday

May 8, 2015

Don’t forget to place food donations by your mailbox on Saturday, as  letter carriers will join forces to help Stamp Out Hunger in our community. In its 23rd year, the annual food drive has grown to be the largest national single-day effort that benefits millions of Americans who struggle to put food on the table.

Residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag of non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox prior to their regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 9. Escambia and Santa Rosa letter carriers will collect food donations for local food banks including the Bay Area Food Bank and Manna Food Pantries. Last year, organizations received a total of 159,625 pounds of food from the community during the food drive.

“This is a critical food drive because it comes at a time when donations are typically low and the need  has increased,” said DeDe Flounlacker, Manna Food Pantries’ executive director. “During the school year, many children get a healthy meal through the free or reduced breakfast and lunch programs. During the summer, those programs aren’t available. The generous donations from the community allow us to provide nutritious food to hungry families and children throughout the summer months.”
