Three People Murdered On Deerfield Drive Identified

The three people found dead last Friday in a home on Deerfield Drive were murdered, and they identities have been released, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

The victims were identified as 49-year old Richard Thomas Smith, 77-year old Voncile Smith and 47-year old John William Smith.  The victims were a mother and her two sons, according to neighbors familiar with the family.

All three were victims of homicide. There have been no arrests reported and no suspects named. The Sheriff’s Office said that the investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.

About 9:30 a.m. Friday, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4600 block of Deerfield Drive for a welfare check. When deputies arrived, they found the three people deceased.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement were on the scene throughout the weekend, with investigators returning Monday.

Deerfield Drive is located off Klondike Road north of Wilde Lake Boulevard.

Three People Found Dead In Escambia Home; ESCO And FDLE Investigating

August 1, 2015

An investigation by state and local authorities is continuing today after three people were found dead inside an Escambia County home Friday morning.

About 9:30 a.m., the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4600 block of Deerfield Drive for a welfare check. When deputies arrived, they found three deceased persons.

The deaths are being called “suspicious”. Both the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement were on the scene throughout the day Friday, overnight and all day Saturday as the investigation into the deaths continued.

Further details have not been released at this time.

Deerfield Drive is located off Klondike Road north of Wilde Lake Boulevard.

Free School Supplies Today In Century, Molino

Free school supplies will be available to day in Century and Molino.

CENTURY

The supplies will be distributed in memory of Dedria Robinson, who was killed in 2005  in an automobile accident at age 11. Organizers of the “Dedria’s Gift” program said the school supplies are available to children from Escambia County in both Florida and Alabama.  The giveaway begins at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Nadine McCaw Park (Roadside Park) on North Century Boulevard and continues until the school supplies are gone.

MOLINO

A free Day of Hope will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Victory Assembly of God at 1895 Victory Road,  just south of Barrineau Park Road on Highway 29.  The event will offer free groceries, haircuts, backpacks, school supplies, a kids zone and a hot lunch. Items are available while supplies last, rain or shine. No identification is required, but children must be present to receive school supplies.

West Florida Library ‘Blowout’ Book Sale Today

August 1, 2015

The Friends of the West Florida Public Library will hold a “Blowout Book Sale” today from 9-5  at the downtown Main Library at 239 North Spring Street.

During the sale, shoppers can purchase a brown paper bag for $5 and take home whatever books will fit inside the bag. Multiple bags can be purchased without limit, and book lovers are encouraged to shop all day.

The sale is open to the public. Payment by cash or check is preferred, but credit cards are accepted for sales of $20 or more.

Proceeds from the Blowout Book Sale will support the West Florida Public Library’s efforts to build a stronger community and improve literacy.
